Ok i said i'd report back when i tried more of the combat so here goes.
It feels really rewarding and weighty from an offensive side, when i'm swinging a heavy mace it feels like it's something which really heavy which would cave someones skull in. Like wise the spear i have has really nice range and accuracy but doesn't hit anywhere near as hard, i haven't really tried anything else but it feels like you will perform differently depending on the weapon you use so i'm excited to try other stuff out.
Because of this if you think stand 10 feet away with a weapon with bad range you'll just swing at air and an easy target to hit, on the slightly negative side the dodge feels a bit janky and the enemies ( just low level grunts atm) seem quite bad so maybe the AI is more interesting when you face higher ranking enemies as i have just been taking random camps on atm. Bow and arrow is really fun, although i only have a predator bow(think sniper) and a standard bow at the moment and i have heard about bow which fires 5 arrows at once so i'm looking forward to try that out.
To sum it up i would say i think the combat has potential to be really fun if said enemy AI is better as you progress, i obviously have zero idea whether that's going to be the case but hopefully it does because in terms of just using the weapons it's really fun.
Should mention i'm playing on Normal.

Without giving too much away, i just did a side quest which made me laugh for like 2 minutes straight. I don't think that's ever happened in a Assassins Creed game before.

By Grimsat Go To PostHow generic are the side quests? Anything close to Witcher 3?
The side quest i mentioned before was hilarious, it might not be on the high end of Witcher 3 level but it was a damn sight better than some of the shit served up in previous Assassins Creed games.
I love most of the AC games just because it allowed me to visit a time i could never in real life obviously but the quests were never that good, i'm enjoying the ones on offer so far here a lot more.
By s y Go To PostHow are you liking it overall?
I think it's great so far. Love exploring Egypt the fact they have done a way with the mini map was a great decision, combat is much better than i was expecting and while i have spent far too much time just roaming around taking it all in when i have actually bothered to main quests i have enjoyed what i have played so far.
So as first impressions go it's immensely positive, can't to see what else the game has in store as i progress as it feels like i have a long way to go.
Been playing since I got home from work about five hours ago, got my game to unlock early on PC.
I’m very impressed with the game. I’m not all that far in the main story yet, but what I’ve seen so far has been good, though the first twenty minutes or so are a little hard to follow. The side quests haven’t been particularly memorable so far, but each one has some kind of story to tell, which is at least a nice touch.
The combat’s kicking my butt a bit though. Fighting enemies one-on-one isn’t too bad, but it can get decently tough when you’ve got a crowd. This game’s combat definitely isn’t very much like the previous games in the series, that’s for sure. I like it overall though.
Also, modern day impressions based on the first couple of hours: it’s nice to finally have a real character again as the modern protagonist, and in third-person gameplay like the old games! I’ve only been kicked out of the Animus once so far, and there wasn’t much to do aside from explore a teeny bit and read stuff on her computer, but hopefully this goes somewhere later in the game. I especially like the references/connections to Syndicate, the film, and the Heresy novel. Fingers crossed it gets better.

By sam777 Go To PostCombat and general gameplay is the best yet.Say more!
By s y Go To PostSay more!Only 20 minutes in but it seems like the days of block, block, block and counter are long gone.
One of the things I liked is using the Heavy blunt, parrying then following up with a heavy strike.
Mainly because if you are high up you can basically send them flying and cackle away like an evil bitch as you watch their head crack on the concrete below.
I might have problems.

By sam777 Go To PostCombat and general gameplay is the best yet.A friend send me a small video of him playing.
Looked pretty good, but those guards and their alarm is pretty sloppy.
Like you can jog in front of them and it still takes like 3-5 seconds until they properly react.
Visuals were pretty damn good though.
ACG says wait for a sale
Great looking, huge game. Combat is repetitive, not as smooth as UBI probably wanted it to be. Story is wut. Bunch of bugs.
Probably wait for a patch or two.

Watched half an hour of it, looks like one of the sporadic good ones that occasionally come out
Do AC games tend to drop in price quickly?

By Mantequilla Go To PostIf the last AC game I played was 2, can I still jump into this one or will I miss out(story wise)?
Considering the story has been a complete clusterfuck since then and this is kind of a soft reboot you'll be fine.
From the review I posted a few posts up, apparently the story here is basically none existent anyway.
By reilo Go To PostIs this actually a decent game or is it decent by AssCreed standards?I'm about 3 hours in. I'm enjoying it.

Not from my experience it isn't, I'm really enjoying it anyway. I will grant that the story is slow to get going but personally I'm really invested in it atm.

A good game that needs a patch or two like most AAA games nowadays.
Shocking, only psy and Smokey called this. Only us.

Have you actually played the game? because i have played it for 10 + hours and i have experienced nothing which needs patching, like i haven't seen a single obvious bug.
As far as AAA games this is very smooth. Haven't actually read reviews mind, so i have no idea what the general consensus is but then again considering i'm playing the game i don't really need to.

Nothing game breaking, I've been stuck in the environment and mashed some buttons to get out of and it froze for like 10 seconds once. 4 hours in.

on PS4, framerate in the cutscenes is jumpy but other than that. Perfectly playable.
I'm on base PS4 and i haven't seen anything yet, worst thing i seen is some texture stuff not loading in the distance. That's not to say it doesn't exist, just saying that i personally haven't seen anything substantial.
It's far from broken anyway, as far as performance goes i don't really have much complaints.

I just found out a friend of mine did Khaliset's voice in this game, as well as some motion capture. She is smoking hot.
I'm still on the fence. I got a free copy waiting on me back home (for some reason) but I'll give it a shot before trading it in.
Does this have anything similar to the 4 special ships you could fight in Black Flag, special quest armour, hub upgrades etc?
By s y Go To PostI said "holy shit" out loud when I was walking around and randomly ran into a Lion. lmao
I had the same reaction when I first ran into a hippo, those fuckers don't mess around.
So I was doing this lvl 15 quest, I'm lvl 11 playing on hard mode. Basically, some guy stole some horse and I'm supposed to get it back.
First time, I end up killing the horse. Second, third and 7th times, guy kills me in horse combat. 8th try, I following the guy a bit before engaging, he ends up riding straight into some bandits who start lighting him up, soldiers came in and started helping the horse thief, with all the bandits on the ground, the horse thief got knocked off. That's my chance.
I run in slciing up whoever's in front of me, hop on the horse and ride out. lmao.
also: hint to anyone who wants to keep Bayek's hair or beard. On the gear menu, hold R2/RT + Triangle/Y to put his beard back on. L2/LT + Y gives him his hair.

Video I watched suggests that there are a lot of quests you can complete with contextual clues, such as 'the priest in the temple to the south has more information' without being led to your obective by the HUD.
Is it feasible to play this way?

I didn't realise that you can set the Horse to follow a path while you scout in the sky with Senu, my mind is fucking blown.
By Hitch Go To PostDoes this have anything similar to the 4 special ships you could fight in Black Flag, special quest armour, hub upgrades etc?
I can now answer this question. There is sort of, there are these things called Phylakes which act as Legendary opponents of sorts. Unfortunately the first time i tried to fight one he 2 hitted me lol, so i'm now just running scared from them so i have zero idea what they drop if you kill them.

It seems like it is yes, although i can't say for certain because i'm using the hud for objectives at the moment. The reason i say it is because of how each objective is described, it would seem like you can use your own initiative to figure it out.

Enjoying this so far! Played about 6 hours and the world is HUGE. Bayek's voice actor is convincing and never phones it in.
Also found out a couple of neat things with Senu. When using your eagle rotate your left analog stick for a barrel roll. And when you're idle and Senu perches on your arm press Y or triangle to feed or pet it :)
I love little details like this.

What level of good in comparison to the rest of the franchise is this? AssCreed II and Black Flag were my favorites.

One consistent thing I've taken from all the video reviews I've watched is the world size. Looks huge. Is there anything to do in the desert or is it just empty?
