I loved The Mandolarian.
A bit of dodgy voice work, but everything else was ace.
Life Day reference was pretty cool.
And a baby fucking Yoda species
I really like the Empire being Nazis on the run after world war 2.

Reilo: it was all trash
By Fenderputty Go To PostReilo: it was all trashIt was one of the most poorly put together premiers I have seen in a while. All that budget but cannot put together a coherent shot or edit.
And someone fix Mando's helmet so he can see where he's walking to.
Seeing The Child use the force was dope as fuck.
Really looking forward to seeing where they go with the rest of the series.
I think next weekend I will start my watching of all the films for the new release.

need to find some good youtube suggested video blocking extensions--got spoiled for Jedi: Fallen Order. Got a feeling some RotS spoiler shit will start popping off as we get into December

I didn't catch it in the first episode, but a friend told me during the week that the scientist dude had a Kamino clone insignia. So i guess the plan of the empire is to try and clone the yoda species. Saw it in the latest episode after doing research on what it looks like.
Wonder if the helmet thing was in reaction to the great purge. Because the Mandos take their helmets off in Clone Wars and Rebels
Saw Rise for a second time in the cinema with my friends now that it is out in Korea. Boy that was a tough watch. My mates are Star Wars fans and both hated it.
I feel like they gave these films to JJ just so that he could do a bad enough job that Lucas's prequels would look like high art.
Only thing I can say about this trilogy of films is that they look really nice, and really get the look of the originals nailed down.
So many scenes were just pure fan service.

By Kabro Go To PostFinally saw it tonightThis is your fault. This is the type of movie you asked for.
Absolute trash of a fan fic film.
Apparently the Trevorrow script kind of leaked, not sure if its true or not but I read a summary of it.
It's..ok. I wouldn't have fired him over it, but its flat. It's a better continuation of TLJ, but it's also got some eh mcguffin chasing that just seems needless.
Would have reviewed better than RotS. It's more conservative and kind of bog standard though. Would have still been the worst film of the trilogy based off of what I read, but maybe a bit better than what we got.

The bullet points I read about the leaked Trevorrow script make it feel like an above average Star Wars movie and a natural continuation of this trilogy with a fitting and logical end.
The fact they fired Trevorrow over it and allowed Abrams to get past the pitch meeting with his attempt screams of willful incompetence.

Star Wars is a campy-ish series of movies. Making it gritty, darker, or more rough edged would've been a little outside of the spectrum for the franchise. I'm sorry, it just would be off.
I think fans were expecting some sort of massive heel turn or twist. I got essentially what I knew was coming: a victory for Rey, and a chance for redemption for Ben.
But I am curious, can you post the bullet points, Reilo?

everyone can pretend Trevorrow's script would have been good, but you can't fool me because i saw Jurassic World 2.

Read that and the below just now:

And neither are notably better than what we got, imo. TLJ was full of action, which made it fun. I think that's what Disney wanted. This sounds more like a slow-burner. But I will concede there are elements here that would've been cool to see in TLJ, such as Chewy in the X-Wing and the stolen Star Destroyer. Not to mention the hologram of Darth Vader beating the shit out of Kylo Ren.
My god, after Trevorrow confirmed the script leak and now we have concept art, Kennedy truly and utterly has fucked up. She needs to go. She's mishandled every Star Wars project except The Last Jedi and Mandelorian.
By reilo Go To PostShe's mishandled every Star Wars project except The Last Jedi and Mandelorian.Debatable. It clearly created some consistency issues to say the least. The movie is just as problematic as all other content and even Mando feels creatively bankrupt and soulless. It just looks really pretty. In all honesty, Bill Burr and Sudeikis/Pally were the highlights for me. Would rather watch their adventures.
The only consistency issues that exist are in contrast to JJ's movies and that's JJ's fault because he's a hack.
By reilo Go To PostThe only consistency issues that exist are in contrast to JJ's movies and that's JJ's fault because he's a hack.Yeah, I agree. I think there was plenty of runway for them to land the trilogy with what happened in TLJ, with Rey being a nobody and Poe and Finn developing, becoming leaders on their own, and not needing Rey to lead the rebellion.
And then JJ decided he didn't like them and doubled back so he could bring back the emperor, make Rey of special lineage, and have Luke Skywalker personally tell you that he thought TLJ was bad.
the original tros script feels like an actual movie building on tlj
it just makes tros an even worse movie now

I know this is an unpopular opinion with some of the diehards, but I don't mind all of the CG additions. I like some of them. Hate others. Sort of a mixed bag.
I like Kathleen. I always liked her. She was full of beans. She was really smart and really bright. Really wonderful woman. And I liked her husband, Frank. I liked them a lot. Now that she’s running Lucasfilm and making movies, it seems to me that Kathy Kennedy and J.J. Abrams don’t have a clue about Star Wars. They don’t get it. And J.J. Abrams is writing these stories — when I saw that movie where they kill Han Solo, I was furious. I was furious when they killed Han Solo. Absolutely, positively there was no rhyme or reason to it. I thought, You don’t get the Jedi story. You don’t get the magic of Star Wars. You’re getting rid of Han Solo?Marcia Lucas going off
Eh, she's not entirely wrong, the Sequel Trilogy did a lot of things wrong but killing off Han Solo isn't one of them.
Ford would've never come back if they didn't kill him off I think.

But his death was mainly for shock effect, which did what it needed to do.
Could've been better but I don't have that many issues with TFA for the most part.
Think the way he went out was fine. What really sucks eggs is that after he kills Han Solo, and tries very very hard to kill Finn, and Rey, and Luke, they still try and redeem Kylo lol. Like, what we see him do on screen is worse than anything we saw Vader do (Alderaan was bad innit but we hadn’t grown attached to anyone from there)
Dude kills off everyone’s favourite character. We’re supposed to hate Kylo. JJ thinking he was redeemable is the series’ most egregious crime. TLJ literally has Rey shut a door in his face lol

Would have been really interesting to see how a dangerous and unstable Kylo would have manifested as the final threat in Episode IX.
But alas. Would have given Driver more to do as well.
Edit: TROS is probably one of the most frustrating films I've ever seen in retrospect.

He was in a perfect place after TLJ to make him lead villain. Rey has rejected him, his father and both father figures (Luke and Snoke) are dead, Hux very clearly hated him, he’s just been embarrassed in front of his entire army… should have led to him going even more off the rails and being a whiny dangerous little shit. Should have killed Hux during a temper tantrum and then Rey should have beat his batty into oblivion.
Instead we got him putting a jumper on and becoming a good guy.
