Maul was absolutely wasted in TPM, he’s not even really a character, lol. Sure he looks cool and is badass with a lightsaber, but that’s it lol
By KidA Seven Go To PostI cried when Darth Maul got sliced. It's not fair lads.Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.
2 pages. Not a single baity hot take. My gawd, it's beautiful. I hope GOB 3rd finds his way here.
Maul to me is a clear example of the one thing TFA did flawlessly - you can't ape Vader in your own damn franchise. It's not gonna work. Kylo on the other hand, works exactly because he's trying to ape Vader and failing at it as soon as he feels the pressure. Hes even got a Maul-ass lightsaber, lol.

Reading through the GAF threads on TFA/TLJ was genuinely disappointing. So many people rinsing Kylo because he isn't bad ass
that's the point you turdboxes.
I mean, I'm already ready to call him the most interesting character in the saga because he isn't so easily defined in such big broad strokes like everyone else fucking is (maybe Han aside and even then that's for 10 minutes at the start of ANH).

Even then Kylo is pretty fucking boss. He stopped a laser blast using the force and took a shot that killed everyone else in the movie.
Yeah he's real cool, but that kind of bad boy posturing comes to the fore and makes him immensely more interesting. Second time I watched TFA I really loved Driver's performance.
I think JJ does a real good job there. It's so simple and stock colours 101, but for SW it's supposed to be on the nose and works real well. The contrasting colours across Kylo's face, slowly shifting to red as Starkiller sucks the star out of the sky. Not to mention the lack of score.
bring it to ix fam

I also love his interactions with Finn. The whole TRAITOR stichk just reaks of desperation. Like, Kylo, duder, take a step back man.
I like this place.

Which is one of the many reasons Clone Wars and Rebels are great...more Maul!
I am on the fence on how to watch tch the films. I have only ever watched them in release order and had planned to do the same before TLJ. I am willing to watch whatever the majority wants.

If that was desperation, what was the guy who fought Finn before Kylo? (The Stormtrooper with a shock stick)

plus I lose an hour to you guys this weekend lol
As long as we all agree to wear a Jedi braid, I don't care when we watch Star Wars: Episode 1- The Phantom Menace.
People actually recognizing the excellence of TFA? Oh boy I love this place. It had some flaws but I thought it never got enough credit for how well it accomplished its goals.
Unlike everyone else, I enjoy watching The Phantom Menace. There’s some really good cinematography in there, iconic and memorable imagery, John Williams at his best, and one of the greatest duels in the series. We watched it on Saturday and had a wonderful time watching it. I’ve always liked Natalie and Ewan in this one. My favorite moment is the ending, when the camera sinisterly zooms in on Palpatine’s profile as Qui-Gon burns, and then the Emperor’s Theme is played in a major theme as they celebrate. Creepy! It’s nothing like Attack of the Clones, where even the lightsaber duel is boring.

Boba Fett got the same treatment, being dropped into a massive vagina dentata with a Wilhelm Scream.

But Maul was killed off in his first appearance, so there was no way Lucas could have known or reacted to the popularity of the character.
I think Maul and Fett are both just examples of Lucas' concept artists coming up with designs that are far cooler than anything Lucas actually planned for their respective characters. Fett is just "the bounty hunter who allows Vader to catch the Falcon" and Maul is just "the bad guy who fights the Jedi and kills Qui-Gon." As far as Lucas was concerned, they were just plot devices disguised as characters.
Sure, those are valid points. I meant that Maul had become something of a fan-favorite during Episode I production. Even if his demise was planned, a character that had such resonance might have become a main foil for the next movie.
By Shanks D Zoro Go To PostReally amazes me they haven't gone down that route already.https://twitter.com/Uptomyknees/status/922724931829248000
Would love a Yoda film of his early days.
Yeah… I don't think I need that.
I still think Dooku should have been the main villain for TPM, would have made a lot more sense to then appear in Ep 2 and 3 rather than just appearing out of nowhere and getting no build up in Ep 2. Another wasted character, lol.
The confederacy shit and the secession all sounds like cool ideas that instead got explored with yoda jumping around like he was on fucking ritalin. Same as TPM; the backstory politics and the on screen action just didn't match.

I loved TPM.
HJO's acting wasn't great, but I kinda liked how this dorking little kid had these grand dreams. His appearance is the complete opposite of the feels you get when you first see Vader.
It also was before George went green screen mad, and tried writing love scenes.
