By Method Go To PostI'll try to get the review thread up Wednesday and try to start updating immediately at 6am PST as that is when the embargo endsand thank you for your efforts! I'm feeling a 96 MC score
Still not sure if I'm gonna go for this or Wolfenstein II this Friday. This game looks really interesting to me, but at the same time I've never that big of a Mario fan or player.
Honestly, for all those refreshing yourselves on the Marios this week, give Sunshine another shot. You don't have to love it, but I promise you the movement is gonna feel 👌 (espically after 3D World) and you'll dig the "secret" courses, at the very least.
Wish I had the time revisit everything, but I was thankfully able to get through Allstars and Super Mario World because of the SNES Classic, and I'm as unsure as ever regarding my favorite Mario.

By lukeprism Go To PostThank you for fighting the good fight, Sunshine is the secret best 3D MarioMaybe in a world where SM64 and SMG 1/2 weren’t released.
Still, even the 3D Land/World series is better.
Rumored Kingdom Spoiler: If the rumored Delfino Island Kingdom is true it will be interesting to revisit it. Maybe Nintendo even brings FLUDD back. Hope this timer they can make it decent.

I won't settle for anything less than 100 MC myself.
Mmmmmh, not buying the 3D Land/World thing. Land is quaint and World is a fun multiplayer game but they're no substitution for a proper, exploratory 3D Mario, in my eyes. Plus, the 8-way movement and superfluous run button invalidate them ;D
If I quote you I'll see the spoiler, Mr. Adele, but to each their own! I prefer the sandboxy Mario games myself, and didn't play 64 until after Sunshine so I really hated the camera and Mario's movement. It's been a long time though and even I can respect how groundbreaking the game was at the time.

Not saying you shouldn't be able to run 😋 It's just that running was mapped to the analogue stick in the other games instead of making ya hold the B button 100% of the time.
I knooow I shouldn't splurge on it since it comes out the next day but who we kiddin, I'm gonna be all up in those reviews. Talking about it here will tide me over, and hopefully, let me sleep haha
Heads up to anyone in the U.K.

I wonder if anyplace in the US will break embargo...I'm eager for reviews too. I only watched bits of what they released, and some Mario movement vids. Man...this was a great year for Nintendo.
This game is quite relevant to my interests. Been wanting an exploration-centered Mario for forever. Loved Galaxy, but Sunshine was just more geared towards my love of running around and finding stuff to do, see, get, etc.
By Diprosalic Go To Postcan't wait for thursday. it's killing me.Oh hush
I’ve been going to best buy after work to play the demo pretty much every day since they set it up. It’s crazy how much better the game feels to control than 3D World did. The roll is a game changer- it takes some getting used to, but once you figure out the physics of it, it’s a speed runners dream. Rolling down a hill, building up speed into a long jump is the best feeling. Friday can’t come soon enough!
I used to be a huge advocate for the "Sunshine is the best 3D Mario" argument back in the day. However, revisiting it now, I've changed my opinion a bit. I still love the premise and setting. Isle Delfino was a fantastic addition to the Mario world library, and FLUDD was a fun idea on paper. However the physics and camera controls just feel... bad. I can't be too mad at it though because it was such a crazy departure from the usual Mario formula and I appreciate their willingness to get weird with it. Odyssey reminds me of Sunshine in that way.
just realized i can just purchase this on the japanese eshop for about the same price, but releases a day earlier
see you all on thursday

I'm quite hopeful they've executed Odyssey more effectively than they did Sunshine.

Odyssey reminds me of Sunshine in that way. That's kinda my takeaway with both games. Mario's at his best when the devs are just going all in on wild ideas. I appreciate Sunshine for throwing so many weird things at the wall with such reckless abandon that if it forgot half the stuff won't even stick. The New Super Mario Bros. games don't have a single ambitious moustache hair between the four games on four different platforms they span, and while 3D World has no shortage of variety, there's not a single original sequence in its DNA.
Recent Marios are still super fun, that's what they're aiming for, but they play it too safe. Odyssey looks just no holds barred, bananas, and nutso all rolled into one.

The Galaxy games are, in my mind, 3D platform at it's absolute best. Closest to perfecting the genre yet. But I really appreciate when Nintendo throws tradition out the window and just creates these fever dreams for us to play in. There was a lot of great stuff like that at the beginning of the GameCube's lifetime. Luigi's Mansion comes to mind as another.

Yeah, I forget just how crazy a sidestep Luigi's Mansion was sometimes. Resident Evil meets Ghostbusters meets Mario. Would love to see something like this again. Where's my genre-striding Bowser game at, Nintendo.
First post, new to the site. Can't wait to play this game. Haven't played a new Mario game since Sunshine. I'll be playing mostly on the big screen. Maybe some handheld in bed on a Sunday morning.

By Mr. Adele Go To PostWhere is my Tomb Raider meets Bayonetta with Peach game?It died when Nintendo thought it'd be swell to make a game around her flying into manic rages and fits of hysteria because "woman, am I right my dudes"

The last time I was this excited for a game was exactly ten years ago when Super Mario Galaxy blessed us with its glorious light. Can't for the 10/10 reviews to rain down on Thursday.
My hype levels are pretty normal. (Not too excited, but still want to play the game)
Guess i am the only one who is not jumping off the walls here.

I'm hyped for the game, but for me that just means I'm looking forward to it coming out and will be getting and playing it day one.
Most games nowadays I just wait until it is on sale and discounted before I get them. So, yeah, hype for me is not saying much.
That shit actually can affect speed now in games.

Really though, it was a shame the controls had to be conromised across all methods so they could cram the control scheme onto a Wii remote. It's something I hope they stop doing with the Joycons too, if ARMS is any indication.

I got like 70 Shines and beat the game, but then thought "Oh great, can't wait to go for 120, and see what else the game has to offer!" Only to find out like literally EVERYTHING left is blue coins. Was bonkers
GOD this game cannot come soon enough! And after a few hundred hours of it I will go back to BotW, heh 0.o
I won't be able to play this until my birthday in December. :(
Gonna be really hard to prevent everything from being spoiled to me by then.

By Mezentine Go To PostSo much money I'm spending on the 27th -_-I still need to figure out a few income factors before i know how I'm paying for this, lol
I bought my entire switch for this game so I'm hype.
How are y'all going to play this come launch? Docked or Handheld?
I don't know whether to play this game docked or handheld but I got it pre-ordered and ready to go. I really hope that the red joycons are going to be sold separate because I'm already tired of the neon red ones I have.
