By Haz Go To PostMy copy is waiting for me at home and I have about 2 hours until I get home and can play it…im such a nintendo nerd - Got my order of Mario Odyssey, open package and there's two copies. I ordered it twice in the past 6 months. Dumbass lol
but i can't play till i get home in 5 more hours smh
Alright, went to puck up my copy and just got home, finally get to play this. This is the most hyped I've been for a game in probably the last 8 years. Prepared to be let down!
I really don't get hyped for games anymore, but have anticipated this game for the last week, so yeah.

By Method Go To Postspector you can do it like usual (spin the stick and then hit Y) from what I read anyways, lol
I didn't know that, will try.

Is there a real way to throw the cap upward?
By Haz Go To PostMy copy is waiting for me at home and I have about 2 hours until I get home and can play it…Hey, glad you got it. Mine came in as well. Hurray for Walmart.
It's 1AM over here so I'm gonna have to call it a night for today. Not sure how many hours I have played so far, but it has to be at least 6.
Pretty much only done the Sand Kingdom and a bit of the Cascade kingdom. Up to 55 moons in the sand kingdom and I have no idea where the others are at this point. I've gotten all the coins there so it has to be things that I'm passing by somehow.
Haven't used any hints or cheated and I'm not planning on using any for a long time.
Gonna try and get as many stuff as I can on my own and if I'm totally stuck, I'll use the in game hints I guess.
What a game!
Even though there are a ton of incredible games out this year, so far I'm thinking that picking my favourite will be a breeze.
Odyssey if just pure condensed fun in a tiny card.

By Mariosalic Go To PostThere's moons you can't get right now. So best to move on :)
Ah, that kinda makes sense. Especially for one of them. the weird metal block just outside of town to the left.
No idea what to do with that at all at this point.
Guess tomorrow I'll dive deeper into that water level. ;)
Alright, glad a Mario game finally got me to not hate Cheep Cheeps. Also, still getting a kick out of the stupidity of everything getting a mustache when you take it over.
Made it to the fifth kingdom, chose to go to the water level first and am glad I did, since it was so easy to get enough moons to leave it quick. Plan on sort of speeding through the game then going back to the world's to play around.
Liking pretty much everything about the game though. Finding how to use your cap with the enemies has been a joy. Like building my own stack of Goombas and messing around with them. The 2D stuff is pretty sweet, even though it is weird Mario never gets small. Looking forward to what else is in store for me.

I am having a blast with it so far. Still only on the 3rd area buy my 2 year old was dying laughing when I started it with him watching
Man this game is incredible. Finished the first area and almost the second. Pretty sure you can’t collect everything right away tho in each world.

Made it to New Donk (I’d spoiler that, but it was shown day one). I didn’t expect the location to be so late in the game. A few things that bug me: The hat spin attack, hat throw up, and hat throw down (all motion controls) are a pain when you have the joycons in the controller holder that comes with the console (which is how I normally play). I often have to resort to shaking the controller wildly, hoping out of one of the three, the move I intended is performed. The other thing is... hmm, that’s really the only thing that rubs me the wrong way. I love everything else.
World variety feels like more of a call back to SMB3, but really, there’s bits and pieces from every mainline Mario game. I was surprised to see the little rockets from SMB2 that take you to other areas.
This game is like a tribute to all things Mario and it’s hard to stop playing.

The game is great so far. Half way through the 2nd world. Completed as much as I could for the 1st world. Guess the rest will open up later...I don't have any huge criticisms yet, but I'm sure that will change. A small nitpick is the floaty frog jump. Hopefully it isn't used near any major pitfalls later on.
I would love to share and see photos, but I don't know if this thread is appropriate for that...
I think Journey changed the game with their sand shader. I've seen variations in so many games since.

So far I love the game (in Sand Kingdom) but it has not yet surpassed the Galaxy style of game for me yet. I do love the pure platforming of those titles.
Still, it's fantastic and I have basically seen 1% of it. So plenty of time to turn me around

So I got to Cascade Kingdom. I wasted so much time in the intro level just running around and playing with the controls. I wanted to master the double hat jump right away, for example. I started to get miserable, and I think it has to do with the dual joy-cons. I just don't find them reliable. Gonna switch to Pro controller tomorrow and see if I have a better time.
I've been playing the game using split Joycons, and I've caught myself trying to do the Galaxy-style spin jump a few times.

I agree. But I just had to accept that it's a different kind of game than the Galaxy games, and accept it for what it is. Having said that, we really do need a new Galaxy game.
By Addi Go To PostNo spoilers, but wow, what an ending!
The post-game seems great too.
Post game is arguably where the game starts
By Labor Go To PostHow the hell have people beaten it already? Lol
I spend too much time just looking around
I’m only up to New Donk City but the game has been pretty super easy so far and you’ve usually collected enough moons for the next kingdom in no time. I’m guessing the main path is under ten hours.

Exactly, a lot of people will have beaten it this weekend. Probably the shortest 3d Mario to get to the credits, but definitely the biggest post-game. Actually there not much point in delaying beating it too long because it unlocks so much stuff.

if anything, the story seemed to be a long tutorial for post game

I just view it as two games in one. There are clearly two storylines, and one is a direct sequel to the other, so it's not much different than having free DLC already included in the game. This makes the value proposition of the game much more attractive.
Really loving the game right now, and I haven't even gotten past the Sand Kingdom because I'm obsessed with finding moons. There's just so much to explore in each kingdom, it's crazy. It's so much fun to just jump into holes wondering if it's another level, and finding out that it is!
By gotemrunnin Go To PostHelp me convince Moris to get a switch for Odyssey yaw'll. Moris aka Morio. GET A SWITCH!!!!!
I had to convince my wife not to get one on Friday.

Is there anything more satisfying in life than Goomba stacking?
In fact I want a spin-off Goomba stacking puzzle game.

I'm enjoying myself a lot, the game is great. But from a style standpoint I definitely think I'm more of a linear obstacle course guy when it comes to 3d Mario. I think not having to manage the camera in the '3d' games allowed them to get real technical with the platforming almost approaching the 2d games and I'm a big 2d Mario guy. So yeah I'm loving this but I think 3d land will remain my favorite 3d Mario. I hope the make a sequel to that on Switch too.
Also I had 25 people on my friends list playing this at the same time goddamn

I kept pressing Y to run thinking it was 3D World
Just got to sand kingdom and really liking it so far. I'll be playing more tonight

I can't wait. Is it super challenging?
I'm really taking my time with this game. Trying to find as many moons as possible before moving to the next kingdom. I'm currently at the Wooded Kingdom, the music is just so good. GOTY
Just got to new donk and god damn this game is amazing. Also damn brainchild you got a crazy jump rope score. My highest is 44.

I don't even wanna think about that damn mini-game again. Took me forever to get to just 100, let alone surpass it!
