I've been wondering why Super Mario Odyssey seems to have much more hype around it than Super Mario 3D World did despite the latter also being a wonderful game that previewed and reviewed very well.
I suppose the fact that it is pushing the franchise forward rather than being just a polished iterative sequel has something to do with it.
But ultimately I think it's the hardware. The Switch is a far more exciting device than Wii U was. It was hard to be too excited about any of the great Wii U games because no one wanted to own a Wii U. The hardware is just cumbersome as hell.
As a Wii U owner I think I can safely say that I've never owned a system that had such a great software library in total opposition of some of the worst hardware (relative to the contemporary technology of the time).
Anyway, don't have a Switch yet but this year has given me many reasons to want one asap. I couldn't say that about the Wii U for several years after it launched.
Btw, Mario 3D World desperately needs a Switch port so more people can experience it, it's so good.

By noal Go To PostI don't think they normally release demos for their big hitters. I don't remember one anyway mate.Only game shop in town might as well be a sony store, not sure they even sell switch games
Could you perhaps try it in a shop?

Where are you from?
All of the Walmarts have Switch demo kiosks and they have Odyssey playable. Same for Best Buy and Game Stop.
Just waiting for the post mail man to get my order here, between now and 2 hours max left to wait. I can't wait!

Games only OK, if that makes those last two hours more bereable. You get to take control of a T-Rex in the first hour or so. No big deal.

It’s the hardware. It’s so well done.
Also 3d world was too safe. This feels like Mario 64-2 and Mario 64 was the goat
The postman has delivered my copy! But I have to go to work soon, so I have to wait until later to actually play it.
I already got 50-something moons. How many of these things are there? Gotta be like 1000 at this rate.

Over 800. Not exactly sure about the number. For some reason the number 838 pops up in my head, but that might not be exact.
This is rivalling Super Mario Galaxy 2 for me which is far and away my favourite Mario. Cannot wait to dive back in after work. Amazing!

3D World is easily my favourite 3D Mario. Some take issue with the 8-way run, or feel like the levels aren't open enough (as if Galaxy is Assassin's Creed or something). But in the end I think you're right - it comes down to not enough people owning the platform it was on. I got way more into it than any of the previous 3D Marios.

It’s pretty clearly all of that. 3D World superficially looked a lot like 3D land, and was in the middle of a flood of similar-looking 2D Mario games on a system that never got any traction. It also reviewed very well but wasn’t blowing anyone’s minds.
Odyssey is a Mario 64 spiritual successor on the hottest system Nintendo’s released in a decade and is reviewing off the charts. Also everyone apparently remembered they loved old Nintendo properties this year.
Anyway just picked my copy up!
Only been able to play an hour or two so far as I need a bit of a rest since I'm still sick.
But I'm pretty much in love with the game.
The movement alone just brings me right back to Mario 64, the long jump, the back flip, just perfection. And then there's the jumping front dive that sets up the roll perfectly. Wow
Only seen 2 worlds so far and just starting the desert.
Exploring is just so much fun. Not a hint of tedium in trying to find everything a world has to offer.
Just discovery and wonder around each corner.
Man, I can't wait to see what these rejuvenated Nintendo teams can come up with next.
They really are on another level (again) right now.

By #ForzaMilan Go To PostRead the invitations. The groom, Bowser (GAF, Evilore), is saying how he's marrying this girl, after he came in her room when she left the door open. The bride, Peach (RE), calls out for help after he came uninvited through the open door and kidnapped her.The joke became apparent when I saw browser wrote "(She's Kind)" in the invitation.
I thought that two OT joke was pretty good but it's about time to just forget about the forum we all used to go to daily. I only went back there to check that OT for Mario Odyssey, but otherwise I've only went there on implosion Monday to see some of the ban me messages. From going to a site damn near 7 times a day to not once. That has never happened to me so quickly. Lol
Anyways, I'll be posting my impressions of this later tonight after I finally receive it from Amazon. So hyped.

I've got 36 Moons so far and have only gotten to Sand Kingdom. I'm trying to clear through a zone as much as I can, but it seems like some aren't accessible right away. I don't know why, though.
Shoot, I even brought my Switch to work today. Don't tell my boss, but I'm playing it right now! 😂

Oh man, since I don't have a switch myself, I'm playing this with a friend and I'm just waiting for him to get home from work :P We played around 6 hours yesterday, got around 100 moons. It's so addicting I'm actually somewhat glad I don't have my own switch right now.
By Method Go To PostHow are your early impressions?I'm having a blast with it! The comparisons to Super Mario 64/Sunshine/Galaxy are going to get tired, but there really is no better way to convey how the level design and collect-a-thon is so sublime.
As for the gameplay, I was very reserved about the Cappy Hat element, but all of that melted the moment I forced Cappy on my victims. It's tons of fun taking over an NPC and the gameplay/level elements designed around each enemy's abilities are super fun; I've been challenged in the game legit, too. There was one moon in the very first Kingdom where I was getting legit frustrated with how hard it was/how many times I was dying.
So, maybe the best way I would put Super Mario Odyssey is it combines the best of all the previous 3d Mario games before it. Yeah, I'll go with that. 😜

Glad to see you guys are having fun!
No flaw with the game itself, but I hate that my video game OCD will not let me move on to the next world because I need to get all the moons and purple coins before I move on. This game is going to take forever to finish. :(
By DJ Lushious Go To PostYou and your friend are putting in work!
Haha, didn't feel like it :P You can gather a lot of moons pretty fast in some of the bigger kingdoms. Taking turns playing probably makes us more efficient too, even though that wasn't the goal.
I am going to run and pick up the game at lunch and run home but I doubt I have time to do anything other than put the cartridge in the switch and head back to work.

This fucking game is incredible. Played for just an hour and the goosebumps I got within Cascade Kingdom....wow. Loved finally becoming the Dino, wrecking chain chomps and alladat. This game seriously looks God damn amazing, however. From a visual standpoint, I have no idea how they fit it all into the Switch. Wow, just wow.
I went digital too, lol. The only physical game I have is BotW.

By SchuckyDucky Go To PostMan, I'm so glad to have the long jump back. I just can't stop doing it haha.
Especially with the roll right after it. Makes for endless fun
Boooy howdy is this game a blast.
What's everyone's preferred method of movement? I found out that you get a small speed burst after doing a long jump (Mario does his running animation). It usually goes away after like 1/4 of a second, but if you're in the air he doesn't lose momentum. Sooo long jump => triple jump => long jump ect. is probably as fast as rolling or continuously long jumping but you have a lot more room to adjust and change angles.
The dive is clutch, too.

3D World is a great game, especially couch co-op but its style and atmosphere are not as good as Galaxy.
mario odyssey now the best selling game of 2017 on amazon... wow. (2nd is MK8 for switch and then BOTW)
Odyssey is good fam. I gotta hop on this conference call and I can't give it the attention I want to but man later today (phew, yea)

I have to say playing with the detached joycons is way more comfortable than I thought it would be. Don't care 100% for the motion control stuff attached to it but the feel of playing with them is damn pleasant.
Picked up my copy today. Damn great game, and lots of fun.
On the part with the Aztec/Mayan boss with the giant hands.

Pretty sure there are missable purple coins, unless there is a way you can get back into the inverted pyramid once it's floating (in the sand kingdom?)
I missed a few on the 8bit section and there's no way to get back there from the top of the pyramid.

So I spent around an hour searching every nook and cranny in the Sand Kingdom trying to find every moon. According to what the HUD showed me there were around 12 moons in the kingdom, so I managed get them all, happy to 100% the thing on my first go. And then I looked at the moon list: there are actually 69 moons in that kingdom. This game, this glorious game.
