Yeah, modbot is a tricky subject. I do get a lot of mods would be harassed for closing threads and banning users, and a way to do that without putting a target on your head is a smart idea. But it leaves a lot of stuff open to abuse. I think a bigger issue was the total shutdown gaf always had on ANY moderation discussion or 'meta' talk when that stuff can be healthy for a forum. There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism and opening a proper public channel for feedback would make it less hostile. The way that Amir0x thing was handled was straight up nonsense but you got nuked for getting angry at it.

I just feel like it's a terrible idea when you look into the future. Like even if resetera goes well and takes off, that name just sounds way more closed in around the same crowd and not something a new user would be attracted to joining. I guess you could stretch reset for gaming but...eh.

I think they can do better than "Reset Era", but they can always forward from whatever domain they pick and tweak the site name.
Pretty hard with all the domain names that are already registered though.

But apparently that was insensitive to the alleged victim?

Reset Era's design is full on Nintendo in style. If the forum is chill and feature complete and a large portion of gaf migrates there, I'll head there as well. Slaent seems cool as well but it seems any place that is populated by gaf bans and others who burnt out on gaf just have really negative attitudes. The only thing I know about Bore and Voat is that both are populated by banned gaffers and everyone seems really bitter about it and gaf in general.

I got nothing against folks trying to make a new forum right away I guess, but I don't think that is for me.
The name and logo for ResetEra isn't great by any means, but neither was NeoGAF's name and logo. Like others have said, the moderation and who/how many former GAF members migrate there is the only thing that's gonna matter when it comes to it gaining the traction it needs. I feel a more transparent moderation team is certainly needed, and if that's not something they're going to effectively address, I don't think it'll stick.
I'm liking this place's vibe better than GAF's anyway, seems quite a bit chiller here without being a chaotic mess like some other places.

No GAF makes me feel dead inside tbh. So much time wasted their over the years. I'd like to join the discord but I'm too lazy to track down an invite.
Only time I was banned from GAF (or banned from any site, really) was when they implemented an immediate ban on people who mentioned the word "Switch" in a thread for the Disney Afternoon Collection, when the topic got swamped with people complaining about the game not coming to that platform (aka "port begging"). My post merely quoted two other posters who mentioned the term, and I didn't see the mod warning before it was too late. :v
The posting layout there overall seems more inspired like the comments section for a news website, rather than a forum. Not saying that as a bad thing, but I personally prefer the more traditional "message board" layout here.

There's a lot of screencaps of PM talks with him where he is openly naming users he's gunning for looking for reasons to ban and get off the forum. But if you mentioned any of that your account got Guest'd.
If he's in any position of power in this reset place they fucked up. The moderation is going to be really hard for a new forum to get right though.
I heard absolutely nothing bad about Beseda, but since they liked to crack down on meta discussion quick over there, maybe I missed something?

Then they say ‘this will be better because we’ll make it good like it used to be with all the GOOD people’. It’s all good until those stupid people come back to the new place and ruin it. GAF was fine years ago but the more people that got in the worse it got. I also would rather have a fresh perspective than the same mod team at GAF make a new one.
Plus SLAENT has been great since it started and everyone here’s been great. I wouldn’t want to see it go to shit because people want it to be GAF 2.0. It ain’t that.
