If the former Gaf mods think that their style of heavy handed moderation is going to work anywhere but Gaf, they are in for a rude awakening. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying sexism/racism/homophobia should be tolerated, but the signal boosting, dog piling and tone policing only works when you are on a big established platform.

I thought he was a fairly self-reflecting dude based on whenever he would write long posts on the state of GAF which while I was there he did a couple times that I can remember. Granted, he would also occasionally post some dumb shit about "basement dwelling Jezebel feminists" too, not even accounting for the things that blew all this up in the first place. But this can be a learning opportunity and he could change himself for the better, if he chooses to do so.

GAF always felt like the kind of place where you could discuss anything without any fear of GG/alt-right assholes jumping in. You can’t be that open on places like Reddit or a lot of other forums. Waypoint looks like it has strong moderation too, which is promising, but most of these new places are going to be under siege and watched constantly. And now they’re going to be emboldened

But we've never run SLAENT as a place to dump or dwell on GAF. Honestly, we have much more interesting / fun / drinking things to do.
When big news (Amir0x, this Lore stuff) comes up, it's dealt with like news, and we try to stop the rest of the website having it in every thread, by congregating it in a main thread.
We're letting more go in this thread, as people are trying to find each other, and need a place to vent / detail their thoughts.

GAF was built on the back of culture building through relatively loose moderation, open discussion, and community self-policing over heavy handed moderation.
Whoever tries to re-kindle that would be wise to remember that.
Would be even wiser that if they manage to re-build the community, they install better standards of moderation once that becomes necessary. Not just find ways to cull wrong-think that bleeds out reasonable discussion over time and encourages dog piling and shit-posting people that step outside of the group-think on a topic to get them banned.

They banned Evilore references from all channels. Probably due to off color shower jokes, but still it's not a good sign to me.

As someone who doesnt care about politics this became a real problem, I dont mind having areas for it, threads for it, but there were times when OT was 70% "Look at what trump did, has done, will do" posts.
From what some have posted earlier, it seems like the sentiment is to correct many of the mistakes that brought GAF here. But we'll see in practice if that actually happens.
