By RoyalJCC Go To PostYou know what bothers me the most? People taking everything WAY too serious. I don't care if the character is black, gay, woman or whatever - i just want to play the damn game. Why the hell people need to make everything so serious? Seriously, why?
The whole thing about Anita, I rarely comment on it but it's a problem I really don't care about. There's way too many more serious problem with the world than the way a women are portrayed in the videogames. That's my opinion and I said it without disrespecting anyone, unlike some on OT or even gaming.
People that were interested on The Last Night were shittalked on the gaming side.
That's what I hated most about NeoGaf. Its community was really intolerant.
And it's fine not to care, the issue with gaming side is that folks who did care (namely… PoC/LGBT/female gamers) had to put up with a bunch of folks telling them to "get over it", or "stop trying to ruin gaming" or they were making gaming too "PC", or my favorite "shut up and make your own multimillion dollar game". Constantly invalidating those folks feelings when they could have just not said anything and continued playing their games and let less represented gamers express their feelings. Too many folks acted like they were the sole authority on gaming and these "others" were coming in were ruining everything (sounds familiar).
B/S/T was pretty good all things considering. Only some minor fuckery.
Some of the conversation in here is why I think some people became so jaded with the website.

I can't believe the last thread I made on Gaf telling everybody I hated them all and to follow me on twitter got deleted.
By rave Go To Postthink he's referring to the "gaf successor" people are talking about
Ah. Well, Xenforo is a decent forum software. It certainly has its flaws and one often has to do a fair bit of customization to tailor it to a community’s needs. I won’t mind using the spinoff of neogaf to be using xenforo.
By SchuckyDucky Go To PostAnyone know of a good replacement for the B/S/T thread? It was the only place I felt safe buying and selling things on the internet. Gonna miss it.
I totally forgot about this :/ I really got hooked up with some great deals there over the years. It was a pleasure dealing with most gaffers on there.

By Dante23 Go To PostYet another NeoGaf refuge over here. Can't believe it crashed and burned in just one day. It will be hard for something like NeoGaf to form again. I like this site though.I reckon the only way it can come back is if EL sells the forum or at the very least steps aside. But even then, the forum's name has been tainted, which is a huge shame. At times it felt like it was the only place on the internet where you could post something and not expect to be doxxed as a result.
Mostly lurker and my username is the same. If someone can hook me up with the discord would be great. I really want to find the community again.
By Random Ass Username Go To PostI feel bad for folks who had real informative community threads about like computers, programming, photography, etc. Those were always nice catchalls for some info about latest gear. I think you can make those here relatively safely, I don't see the leadership crew here just purging stuff out of sheer pettiness.Yup, they've lost a lot in this mess. The abruptness of it all didnt give anyone a chance to exit or plan or even say goodbye.
By MrSaturn99 Go To PostI was already heavily considering leaving Twitter and losing the most progressive gaming forum on the net threw a wrench in that.
This whole thing made me use Twitter more than ever now.
By ashep Go To PostGaf may not have leant "far left" like some are suggesting but does it really matter? When anything or anyone slightly right of centre can get dogpiled with impunity what's the difference?
The issue wasn't with the political bent anyways, it was with the complete and utter lack of nuance.
Interested in how The Last Night turns out? Oh so you're a piece of shit mysogynist huh?
I'm not sure putting nude photos online is a fantastic idea. Oh so you're a victim blaming asshole?
I'm buying A Hat in Time. Wow, guess you have no morals.
Hey my brother is a cop and he's a good guy. Oh let me guess, #notallcops right?
The sad thing was that the mods would complain about it. They would give warnings, they would lock threads but not actually address the issues they were complaining about themselves! Tyler even bitch and moaned about it. You are the owner, step up!
Trumps presidency and everyone involved has increased division in America. Plus the moderation in Gaf has created a, rightfully so, Safe space. Unfortunately, some people became militant in OT. I still liked OT regardless and my opinion of Trump and republicans won't change. A lot of them are the problem.

preach angelus - gaming side was all about that trash
okay so just wanting to talk viya games (...) is fine, but there's lots of spots for that, and the occassional thread about how representation, the treatment of women etc were problems in gaming were here & there but not nearly as many as needed, honestly. people on about how they hated all this feminism talk in gaming weren't paying attention before, is all.
as a 30's straight white guy, every gaming protag looking vaguely like me is white supremacy. there's noting wrong with pointing that out, and honestly OT did that far, far more often, thankfully.
The Last Night is by a guy who rides for gg, a harassment/hate campaign. GAF stood out for calling out/stomping on that shit like every other corner should've.
being intolerant of that fuckery was the single best thing about that place. i'll miss it, while you'll have virutally every other spot on the next to talk about games with like-minded people, so don't let it get you down too much.

This is the otherside that gets lost in the gaf shitting. Dont care then dont post. Some people took pleasure in exerting their deviance against the #hivemind.
By ashep Go To PostWell no shit. I didn't say it was exclusive to neogaf. No, not really.
Also, the fact you're referring to those opinions as "slightly problematic" kinda makes my point.
If your opinion is slightly problematic, then it is. Part of participating in the discourse is allowing to expose yourself to perspectives that you otherwise don’t have access to. Dogpiling is sympotmatic of every community ever, so if we want to criticize NeoGAF, which we should, then we should point our criticisms onto the owner of the forum and those that overly moderated opinions.

Lot of "harmless" mean-spirited trends tho. Even from old timers. I remember walking into pre-release FARCRY PRIMAL and it was open season for trolling Ubisoft stuff. It was painfull to read and basically stifled proper discussion and enthusiasm towards that game or other Ubi games.

By RoyalJCC Go To PostI actually think that. Mods were a problem true, gaming side was a mess but OT was full of bitter and toxic people that were offended at everything and yelling "Trump supporter" (not exactly this) at everyone that didn't agree with their ideals. That and everything being a Russian conspiracy and that’s just the past year. It was still toxic before that.

Can anyone tell me if there was conclusion to the story about the guy who suspected that his girlfriend was cheating on him....
For context is is the one where the guy's sister told him about his girlfriend
I feel like I have been left on a cliffhanger.

By NovemberMagnus Go To PostI wonder if Hearthstone gaf is okI won't miss Hearthstone GAF. Have a lot of great folks from there in my Bnet friends list already, but a lot of prominent posters and regulars were douchebags who acted like they were touched by the CCG design gods because they played Magic once in a while. Levi also acted like he was one loss away from another big meltdown, bless his soul, lol. Emotional lad.
I'll miss Path of Exile GAF tho.

Spinning the narrative that neogaf was anything but is incredibly naiive. There is a reason people resent the place and not all those people are *insert identity politics insult of choice*.

It's hilarious that the old mod team is trying to make their own forum. The moderation was so toxic by the end, and it was all hiding behind modbot so it was pretty much impossible to know who the jerks were. "Run by the old neogaf mod team" is like the least enticing phrase of all time.

There should be a way to just lament some shit not being in a game without pushback from spoiled or complacent folks and at the same time other folks can discuss what the game did right. Or have two separate threads. Some of the stuff y'all arguing about is a defect of shit moderation.

When you have developers saying how shit NeoGaf was then you can draw your own conclusions. And as we can all see some users didn't really like it either.

Dogpiling is the antithesis of exposing yourself to different perspectives. Shit's fucked and neogaf were fucking fantastic at it.
It happens to a much lesser degree in every other online community I've been a part of.
