Gaborn was good people. I came up with his tag when he used to post all those funny news stories. That was what gaf did best just lots of fun discussion about weird and wonderful things. The internet has changed so much in recent years and not just gaf.
I always wonder how much better GAF could have been if mods directed conversation rather than just letting threads bleed out for drama and kicks, with janitorial services done after a lock and pithy statement by modbot. But that's prob lore's fault too.

It will use the xenForo forum software. They plan to maintain some form of restricted registration and are trying to figure out how to migrate existing members.Bet they will act like they also were victims of MolestLore’s kingdom to gather sympathy and users. Imagine signing up to post under their moderation policies again. Weeeeeew.
They're taking suggestions to find out what worked and what didn't work about neogaf to carry that into the product. I dont know who is leading this, though.

I'm not saying it was worse or bad it's just changed. It's very political and a lot more serious. That's not a bad thing but it did have the tendancy to stifle some of the fun. I think that goes back the goals of the mods which pushed gaf into that direction. There's a couple of times when they even had to reign it in like when they started banning swear words.

Just constant defeatist negativity outside of the community threads. Even the goofy G/A/F threads turned more and more into like grisly murders and stuff. I was there when the Dreamcast died, so since around 2001. It was a BBS forum called Gaming-Age Forums (heh, obviously).
OT has just became too political to my taste. There's always a lots of toxicity when it comes to this subject and I only like my bitter pill once in a while, thank you.
Gaming wise, the section has seen better days imo. I prefer Reddit and Twitter these days for gaming news but I like a lot the formatting of message boards.

It was almost impossible to establish in-depth conversations because of the way the site trended in the last few years. With almost every topic that had political components devolving into the same situation over and over. Often driven by a few posters trying to get their endorphins kicked up.
That and through the wildly different moderation standards depending on how you fell down on any given issue meant a lot of the quality, introspective, intelligent poster's ended up getting fed up or culled out.
Huelen was absolutely not Lime. I refuse to believe that.
While Lime was mostly a fucking annoying poster, I did interact with him due to our shared love for silent hill. He did a lot of work on the SH PC optimization threads, and pretty sure could speak Danish in PM's.

I don't want GAF 2.0, but i would love something that encourages healthy discourse while being well moderated against excessive trolls, sexism, racism etc. There can be something amazing built out of GAF's remains, we'll see if anyone is able to pull it off.
