But for the lazy let me recap; there will no tolerance for racism/sexism/homophoiba/transphobia/xenophobia or hate speech
By John Rabbit Go To PostBeing a member of NeoGAF for a decade has made me a generally more educated, open-minded, and socially progressive and active person. It's a real loss that I'm going to feel in the near future. There were some truly amazing members and threads that contained loads of useful, relevant, and interesting information about a wide variety of topics. The loss of the community around that cannot be understated.
That mouth-breathing chuds like Boogie and gamergators feel that this is some kind of "vindication" is just further proof of the destructive and hateful toxicity that NeoGAF "supposedly" stood against. Goddamnit this is so infuriating.
Yeah I had to go to Twitter to keep up with what was happening, and it seemed like a ton of people were having a ball (that former IGN Colin douche for one). Somehow bc Evilore is most likely a shit bag, everyone that used the site is the same as him? Nah, they can fuck off with that. And most these people are shitty anyway.
GAF was full of self righteous hypocrites that took opinions on superheroes and games too personally, but it still carried itself better than most internet communities. I was a member since 2012 and it has changed my worldview tremendously, and introduced me to things I would've otherwise never come across. Honestly, you joined because you liked games, but found that it was way better for other things as well. The sum of parts were just so vast and deep, and in a way interconnected. There are communities there with years of development and growth that I was never even a part of but just like that they are gone. I'm glad that I followed a lot of my fellow community members on Twitter, and I'm glad that Im part of their discord chat. Because I think those friendships are some of the best things I've found on GAF.
This site so far is incredibly promising, and looks a lot sleeker. I think I'm just so used to GAF that it will take me a while to get used to this lol. I'm glad that it's trying to be its own thing, and that the atmosphere already seems a lot more chill to me. I'm already thinking of ways to salvage the Learning Art OT lol, but I know there are other sites I could probably find.

I just got my account on Slaent and I have been following the drama a little over the weekend. I am sad to see Gaf go but I understand why if what we are hearing is true. Evilore always seemed like a a self righteous no one can disagree with me type of person and it always rubbed me the wrong way.
So far I am glad that it seems that Slaent has opened their arms to Gaf refugees like myself and I am loving the mobile site a ton right now. Looking forward to a new chapter.

One thing I was starting to really hate in 2016-2017 GAF was the tendency for every single oddball thread to devolve into sherlock holmesing into the thread creator's post history to find every other weird post he's made. And it would derail the entire thread.
It was really inconsistent with how the rest of the forum had been moderated in the past. Derails usually were not tolerated, but if you "own" someone by quoting something dumb they said 5 years ago and literally nothing gets discussed in the thread but that one post, those were allowed to continue to live on. A thread that would have either been locked, or just died because of how stupid it was, ended up getting tons of pages of "ownage" of basically just taking turns beating up the thread creator.
It was getting to the point where people were actively looking for ways to "own" other posters, sometimes to the point of absurdity.

At least with "problematic", that is a word that's pretty often in other left leaning spaces overused to the point of becoming meaningless that it wasn't exclusively a GAF thing. "Toxic" did become a strange go-to synonym for anything that was described as "bad" though for a while.
"Hot take" is another one, as if anything said ever mildly deviating from the overwhelming consensus was suddenly a "hot take". Also equally funny were the people that thought that "hot take" (and some of the other ones) "became popular" because of GAF.
A lot of those people really did never leave that bubble.

By NinjaFridge Go To PostDid EL actually deny knowing Amirox or are people just infering this from the apparent ban on talking about his crimes?
His statement excused why they hadn't said anything yet, with the fact they barely knew him, and certainly not his real name, which they had attempted to verify. This is despite Amirox posting his real name on the site (a simple search for the name found it...) and that Evilore had donated 1000 dollars to Amirox fundme for his ill mother. Also tried to play off that Amirox was just a regular member, that they hardly knew or had any special relationship with, despite him having been a mod there for so long, and obviously been "part of the group".

I was referred here from GAF and it seems like a nice place to interact with other enthusiasts without as much baggage. I agree with a lot of the posts I’ve seen in regards to GAF’s uneven moderation and how things tended to devolve into witch hunts.
That being said, with how feverishly trolls came out of the woodwork and how it basically became 4chan within hours, that kind of justified some of the paranoia. It’s pretty sad that there are even communities that solely exist just to troll another forum. I’ve used a few over the years and it’s not that hard to just step away from the keyboard and find someplace else that doesn’t upset you.

I don't expect anything meaningful or decent coming from Evilore at this point, but the least he could do is to put the forum back online, disable the ability to post and create threads if he must, so that we can at least browse through past content (if he didn't wipe the complete database by now, which would be extremely petty). It would be a crying shame if all the great content the community has created over the years was lost.

Preach to the masses about basic income lol.
I saw a Discord screenshot that made it sound like some GAF people are working on a replacement to put up soon - not sure how that’s going to work out for them, it seems like no matter how much you get the word out you’ll lose some people in the transition.
Most people don't latch onto something so tightly that they need a word for when it ultimately disappoints them. They don't have time for that. At least the chill ones. Plenty of shit I like, turns out someone is a fuck, I just go "welp will direct funds elsewhere" and that's that.
So I tried looking at The Bore and they seem a bit more active than here. Coupled with Slaent seemingly being more about sports than the vidya, which do you think will see more refugees?

For some reason the stuff Crud said never bothered me, it was too over the top to take him 100% seriously. Like, I always imagined him typing it in a careworn Chandler Parsons Rockets jersey, in his quiet moments asking "why didn't he love me, man?"
That said, if he's getting that directly aggressive with people over the colour of their skin, then he needs to step back.

The problem with safe spaces is that in order for them to exist in the first place there must be people in power who can filter out unwanted opinions. The problem is no matter who is in power abuse will seep in and the power structure will preserve itself through censorship of criticism creating a bubble that’s impossible to escape from because those in it have been conditioned to not accept any opinions which do not pass through their designated filter of choice. That is how facism gains a foothold. It’s literally facism 101.

It worked for that one Xbox indie dev because it was his 15 minutes of fame and 2 seconds later his crazy feminist dystopia storyline came out and he disappeared again. He was what the original tweet was about.
It didn't work for someone like JonTron, because he was famous for a long time, always was kind of weird, and the revelations were surprising, but didn't end his 15 minutes of fame (which was more like a decade of fame). Somehow it had evolved into "anyone sorta famous says something really racist and dumb, must be a milkshake duck!" which isn't what the original joke was.
