But we try to make sure the place is centre moderated.
And hate speech of any sort is not welcome, racism, sexism, discrimination.

By Angelus Errare Go To PostEvilore hasn't had a real job in like 10 years damn this is gonna be wild once his income dries up.Imagine having to then get a job and having all of this tied to your name at this point...he’s definitely going to have to invest in a name change.
By Thunder Monkey Go To PostThat definitely wasn't meant to stoke those flames again.
I was just saying "Those were my thought processes, and damn were they ever wrong, on every front."
All good fam, most of us made it out safe, and even the dumbest mod bullshit couldn't suppress the innate quality of the posts and posters.
I also actually do look forward to a good US political thread with representatives from *gasp* both political parties. Communication, even with people we disagree with, is what will move the country forward. The most dangerous part of the final throes of GAF was this notion of wrongthink, with an implied, mandated rightthink.
By giririsss Go To PostAt this point, he is probably talking to / waiting on legal counsel. And that would be smart.True, that would be best. Just anxious to read whatever he's got to say to try and justify this. I never knew about the 2012 allegations, so seeing all this then reading that makes so many of his statements and actions on GAF massive projections.
By fortunato Go To PostIt's not true that little of value was lost.
NeoGAF had knowledge. From professionals working in the industry. From developers. From passionate people. From people that have been following industry trends and games for decades. This kind of human capital will be hard to find elsewhere, to be honest.
Agreed. There were also many other people in OT knowledgeable about many different things, like Mumei.
By BowieZ Go To PostI would KILL for Bernie and Hillary fans to have a fresh start and unite. I really can’t see any rational justification for not doing so. They were both problematic candidates for one reason or another, maybe one more so than the other or not. But if politically minded GAFers are to flee here (especially in this toxic Internet-driven era), I would suggest we all focus more on what we all share in common.I've never gotten it either.
We are all real people struggling to figure out the world, and we all share a common humanity. Let’s discuss complex issues with that first and foremost in mind.
Too easy to piss off one another over something done.
We've got tomorrows worries to think about. Like whatever batshit thing Trump does next.
Okay, seriously. I always love talking when I get the mood, but I do need sleep too. So good night everyone. Be safe and have a good one.

Thanks. I don't dislike the dark theme but all that purple isn't as ideal for me in a dark theme so this userstyle is very welcome.
I wasn't a big participant in gaf communities but I did like the place and appreciate I didn't have to dig through much of the -isms and -phobias some other online communities had. And you could discuss the much feared ideas in feminism or diversity without being bombarded with anger. As a girl that place gave me a little hope for the gaming community in the midst of all the ggcrap. I had/have other places to go in case of anything, though. Like if it ever got too much it's easy to just ignore the threads. And it led me to some really interesting shows/games I wouldn't have checked out otherwise.
Due to that casual interaction I never even knew the site owner's name till the debacle yesterday, but I'm glad to see people like that go under. He really made his situation worse by being a piece of shit and also fostering a community that would never accept his actions. But it is ironic the trump praising altrighters consider it a victory since last time I checked they supported someone far worse and participate in far worse things. At least most people I've seen are not trying to defend evil and immediately bailed or denounced it all once they realized what was up.
I will really miss those 20+ page OT threads that were basically "GAF there's a guy with a gun in the bushes outside my house what should I do?" and the "feed him pizza" replies the most.

Refugee here. If anyone else is from BrazilGAF, give me a hello or something.
As for the topic of GAF being "too left", I will echo people that times are crazy right now and even if the mods were overzealous, we're living in a time where literal nazis are walking the streets.
I am a libertarian...ish...kinda and I defended that on GAF time and again with no fear of being banned. I also trashed talked Hillary a lot, on one post I called Obama a mass murderer and a mod responded like "that's harsh" and that was it.
But then, GAF was also a safe space in the best sense of the expression. There was a trans community and a black community (and a brazillian community that I hope I can get in touch again) that could exist there being reasonably sure that they could be themselves and talk about their hobbies knowing that a sniff of harassment would be dealt with. And so this debate about free speech is kind of weird to me. GAF wasn't the internet. It was this one site. It could allow itself to be more strict in order to make sure marginalized groups felt more safe than usual in the internet at large.
-
Alt-righters are commemorating because they believe anyone who isn't a dipshit is just pretending and when a hypocrite does appear, it validates them that they don't need to improve themselves, grow and learn because secretly everyone is moved by hate just like they are.

Hi, yet another former GAF member here (EuroGAF) ^_^
I still can't believe that, seemingly, GAF is no more. I've been reading the forums there for quite a few years (can't remember for how long exactly) and became a member last year around the time of E3. While I didn't post that much myself, I've been an avid reader and visited the site daily (- was most active on Dragon BallGAF^^). Sometimes I could spent hours of my free time there and it was certainly a fixed component of my daily routine. It was also my go-to news source for everything gaming related as you could be sure that whenever any information was popping up anywhere, you could find it on GAF a few minutes later. It's also thanks to GAF that I was introduced to Sega's awesome Yakuza series (- if anyone of YakuzaGAF is reading this, thank you for everything. I hope to see you here again).
When I visited the site yesterday afternoon I would never have guessed that it might be the last time ever. Didn't look at my phone the whole evening yesterday, so I didn't experience the final phase where everything was seemingly crumbling to pieces. So I was kinda shocked when the site wouldn't load (besides E3, I've never experienced GAF being down for longer than a few minutes) and hearing about the admin/ mod exodus and the allegations against Evilore from other sources.
While moderation was harsh sometimes and some people were extremely penetrant when trying to impose their world view on others, I still appreciated the atmosphere for the most part since at least you didn't have to deal with the outspoken racism or outright nazi salutes you are confronted with at other places. When Google searching for what happened to GAF yesterday, I landed on 4chan /pol, and boy that's what I would call a hate-filled and toxic atmosphere. It made me appreciate the GAF moderation even more in hindsight, even if it wasn't perfect and went overboard from time to time.
Also the overwhelming part of the GAF community consists of nice people and I'm glad so many of them seem to find their way to Slaent. It would be a shame if such a great and active community falls apart because of one person's failings.
I'm definitely looking forward to see lots of us coming together again as well as meeting new great people. This seems to be a very nice and inviting community and I'm extremely happy to be here. Also loving the design of the site, easy to navigate and looking great on mobile (especially with the dark theme^^).
Let's look forward and have a great time! :)

I agree here too, it had tremendous reach and information and sense of community. It definitely has a place in history but has given the opportunity to build something new and better. Honestly the irony of this is that I’m not sure Neogaf would have went down like this had Trunp not been president. I feel like the current political climate has empowered people to push back at the individual level out of necessity setting off the string of reveals and ultimately exposing all the things kept in the dark. Hopefully we will all be very for it.
By FairFriend Go To PostAgreed. There were also many other people in OT knowledgeable about many different things, like Mumei.
NeoGAF was excelling in having users that were willing to do research, and were willing to share their knowledge about whichever topics, even the most obscure ones. For example, who remembers Mama Robotnik threads about Legacy of Kain or Final Fantasy IX lost artworks? Sales threads were also very informative for the most part because you had people willing to translate Japanese insider sources.

They honestly think GAF was the internet version of pizzagate after Amirox got busted with child porn. Like, if you look at any of their little alt right caves, all they talk about is the mods being in cahoots with Amirox and accusing them of being the Paterno to Amirox’s Sandusky.
But like...Trump hung out as was best friends with an actual pedo who threw underage parties so they don’t care about that, they care about that someone they don’t like was doing it and are hellbent on proving that everyone is just as terrible at life as they are therefore it justifies them being shitty people.

That was the problem on gaf. Complaining about things that if you so much as said you didnt care about it you got dogpiled because "it's 2017 get with the program". I dont want that cesspool of thought police coming here.

honestly, as much as I agree with you, I think this is an issue inherent to the left. Here in my country, every left-leaning new political project/movement/whatever is met with distrust from other left-leaning groups. It happened on a local level, on a national level - even on a university (!) level, with small, left-wing groups cropping up every once in a while and bickering with other left-wing groups about how they are the real left-wing alternative and the others are just bureaucratic sellouts or whatever. Same thing happens at national level. So there's always a distrust thing, even if it's small.
I'm left-leaning, in any case. Some of my acquaintances would deffo call me "a moderate" (or a "coward" :P) and even my parents are more left-wing in a lot of stuff than me, lol

Yeah that was a big thing for me as well. I mean, even with NeoGAF's strict moderation these threads were always 2 steps away from becoming shitshows (people tend to get defensive about the stuff they like, so you'd always get a couple of people trying to shit the threads up with "who cares"s or by arguing in bad faith)... But the thing is that this was still much better than pretty much any other forum I've ever used.
Otherwise, regarding Evilore. If this guy isn't a complete idiot on top of being a sexual predator he must have made some investments with his GAF money and should be set for a long time... He should just give up the website.

If people stick with stuff, and turn communities into lasting things, we try to provide some support so you can take it further, make podcasts etc.

I actually don't mind that our games "journalism" industry is actually taking time to research their pieces instead of dropping asinine hot takes. Hopefully with the facts (Tyler's ADMITTED 2012 Spanish assgrab, Tyler's Olimario GFs nudes pre-venge porn) and the assertions (this new NOLA thing) clearly separated.
By Script Kiddies LLC Go To PostI mean…who here is shocked that an American white male with money and socialization issues turns out to also sexually harass women?I am not. The truth of the matter is, some women do not care how much money you have. Tyler learned this the hard way.
It reminds me of my time in undergrad where the majority of my classmates (STEM majors) thought making money would eventually lead to drowning in women.
Turns out you cannot be socially awkward to the point that it is noticeable. Not only that, some women are like men: they care just as much about looks.
