As I said before there was a ton of people I don't remember but was cool with and mainly recognized them by their avatars.
Maybe it would be okay to have a GAF Migration OT or something with a list of old usernames versus new usernames here so folks can maintain contact with friends or people they were cool and familiar with but didn't really know them / just participated in the same threads by association of favorite game types / genres. (i.e PC folks like Durante and JRPG thread folks like Aeana for example)
This place shouldn't become neogaf 2.0 due to an influx of users. Each space develops it's own identity organically and hopefully this site is/becomes a good place for video game discussion now that gaf has gone down.

Google kicked us off claiming we were intentionally clicking ads to make money 🙄. We weren't, but their process of fighting the charge is total horseshit and we are too small for them to give a damn, so here we are. In the future if we keep growing, I can probably get us sponsored and have a more tasteful integration anyway.

Add another GAF refugee to the ranks. Kinda don't know what to do with myself now. Over the 5 years that I was a member there it became a crutch. I'd feverishly spam the F5 key whenever a new game came out, waiting for the JaseC PC threads. Hell, I still have 3 "Error 503" GAF tabs up right now.

I used to frequent another video game related message board with a not-to-dissimilar vibe to GAF. It died out under different circumstances of course, but the result was the same: I lost contact with some people who I used to really enjoy casually interacting with. So now it feels like it's going to happen all over again. Tons of really cool and knowledgeable people that I liked reading posts from, that I don't necessarily have an immediate friendly relationship with, are going to scatter to the wind and it fucking sucks.

Hi everyone! I'm yet another GAF refugee. I'm hoping to have a pleasant stay with you all here, as well as to find people from YakuzaGAF, AnimeGAF and RedLetterMediaGAF.
As far as GAF and "centrist" views go, there's a big difference between "hey maybe we should listen to the Nazis and meet in the middle" and "well maybe we shouldn't be attacking people or destroying property". The first should be shut down immediately and banned, which it was and that was good. The second, well, there's a nuanced conversation to be had there concerning the history and effectiveness of violent protest, etc. The issue was that, more often than not, the "let's not smash windows" people would get called down and derided and piled upon almost as badly as the actual Nazi supporters, but that just ties back to what I posted earlier: GAF had people with opinions and data, and also people who just yelled.
I tried to have conversations in the, for instance Tim Sorel thread, but it was difficult with some posters going insane with anyone even asking questions.
Some people need to realise that while they might have valid opinions and are 'on the right side of history', posting them with sarcasm, snide remarks or overall rudeness is probably the worst way to convey them.
I'll most miss MangaGAF. Some good people there and DTL with his hilarious point of view of what went on in a manga chapter.
