Had a GAF account since 2008 (Fine was my username), only posted 186 times total, but used to browse (especially OT), daily. So not part of the "community" per se, but going on the site was definitely a daily habit, especially on the commute. Feels weird.Honestly I think "Sports" being front and center up there is keeping out some of the "Just talk about games" folks. This site is perfect
Don't give a crap about most sports (except the Olympics and hockey, always hockey), so SLAENT in the past held no appeal. But it seems to hold promise!
What was nice about GAF was how fast it moved, since the community was so large. Made for great browsing.

10 mil sounds like a lot to buy out a site that presumably gets some 500k in revenue a year, isn't it? Even 5 mil.
I'm no business strategist but I don't think you would buy someone out and wait maybe 10 to 20 years to make back your outlay. Especially for a website which can't be assumed to stay around that long under the best circumstances. There's also not really a way to push the site to earn more revenue when it's a forum and there's no content creation for you to direct.
