Users got Amirox demodded didn't they (that was before my time)? To be fair, IIRC the stated reason was that the real identities of some of the mods were known, so modbot was used to avoid tying closures to real people. Not sure I buy that 100% as the only reason though, but I'm conspiratorially minded.

Apologies if this point has already been made....There's a disconnect that seems to take place when appointing forum moderators: your best posters often don't make your best moderators. It's a different skill-set that's needed. In fact, I think it's a bad method of selecting your moderation team because it reduces the amount of high-quality posts on the forum as those folks inevitably have to spend more time dealing with the "job" and not just contributing to the community. Not surprising to see folks end up burned out and back off: now you're down both a moderator and a (former) high quality poster.
