However in doing so they were quick to shutdown and to advocate the shutdown of opposing views. This created a vacuum where the veil of freedom of discussion was present but only the freedom of discussion which the moderators choose. The irony of course being that that limiting of ideas is facism 101. I know the end result was to limit abhorrent ideas and create a safe space but in the it created and environment where even when people knew something was right and people were unfairly punished for it others were afraid to speak out for fear of similar punishment. How easy it is for us to slip into the same state which drove the Nazis to power when you have the far left and fair right both shutting down news which information which doesn’t display them in the best light while advocating that the other side is the real enemy and they attempt to appear blameless in the communication media they control.Neogaf had no issues with opposing views, it was when those opposing views relied on false information from specific groups including the alt-right. Alot of people with right wing views could not understand that.

And then it abruptly closed. I didn't know what to do. The scramble and feelings were the same. Chaos, people looking for friends, same as it is right now.
And after that, I floated around the Internet for a few years, looking for a new home, and new online friends, and stumbled onto Neogaf. By then I was in college, and had a college email and registered and a few months later had an account and a new home.

Alot of false dawns, alot of attempts to revive it but at the end of the day you need to rebuild not copy what was there. Without the building blocks( certain mods basically) everything else would feel like a cheap copy. Hope this place can do that for some ppl going forward.

You had varying levels of acceptance which confused people and made them more agitated and strict. On one hand, i understand this logic in today's day in age with fake news and nazis, on the other it does have an adverse affect. Balancing acts always end messy when sized up to scale.

I've seen communities fall apart due to sudden issues (usually changes in ownership or sites being shut down). Usually despite the best intentions, people end up on different sites, going in different directions. If NeoGAF cannot recover, its replacements will likely never be its equal. Just a shadow and reminder of what once was.

People calling me on it are past gaf members, that's it. Members that are pissed that someone remember them that maybe - maybe - they should have been more curious about the owner of the site, since it seems so important to them they decided to call it a quit. Well, they should have known, at least it's what I think. You have the right to differ, I have the right to stand by my opinion and I do.
The strange thing is, it's not just about Malka. I remember that a lot of threads and many subject where gearing toward being apologetic towards pedo and creepy behaviors. I guess you all never stumble across them too. I remember a thread (3000 post in it in one night) where a girl working for Nintendo was fired because she was selling her panties online or naked pictures, I don't remember. Everyone on the board defended her, even when it was found that she was fired because she did defend the right of pedophile and pedocriminals in her thesis, during her univiersity days. Guess what, almost everyone on Gaf thought it was normal for her to defend pedocriminals and pedophiles, saying otherwise was getting banned.
