Evilore told Waypoint he's basically hitting reset on GAF. No more off-topic stuff. It's just going to be focused on games and not politics or anything. I might check it out if it's a games news aggregator like GAF of old, but I'd feel kind of dirty doing that considering all that's happened.

Yeah, never got banned either. It was pretty clear where the line was most of the time. Most conservative posters getting banned were banned because they ran in circles playing the victim instead of engaging in any debate. Either that or they say something racist or phobic and completely deserved the ban. Dog piling didn't help, but avoiding the subject or directly insulting a user was the surest way to get banned.
That being said, the forum got a lot more touchy as both more users came in and Trump got closer to the Presidency. To be honest, this election has made me a lot less tolerant as well(fortunately I managed to convince my conservative friends to either not vote or vote D, so I don't have to side-eye them too hard) so I can't say I don't understand why things got tighter.

I just read the Waypoint article, and just wow... Disgusting behavior from Malka. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised by his reaction to the allegations, but I don't know how he thinks that this will go over well, by which I mean deleting off-topic and acting like nothing happened.
I'm a (now) former Gaffer. Most of you probably don't remember me (I had a Kate Bishop avatar of her saying "Let's rock"), as I mostly just lurked in my years there, but I can't in good conscience go back after learning about all of this.
I'll miss what that place was, though. Was Gaf perfect? No, and many people have aired their grievances here about its flaws. But it became my main destination on the web thanks to how quickly news, gaming and otherwise, updated from many different corners of the Earth, and thanks to the communities that had developed, it helped me gain further insights into many political and social issues, plus gave me great recommendations on games, movies, tv, and comics. And who can forget the amazing SunnhiLegend gifs and Lionel Mandrake posts and threads?
I'm glad to see many familiar user names here, of people who gave me the insights and recommendations I mentioned, so I'll take this moment thank some of you for helping broadening my perspective and tastes over the years.
Thank you Angelus, for giving me, a white guy from a predominantly white suburb, insight into the struggles of being black in America. Between your posts and your podcast, So Well Spoken, I see that there is still a long road ahead for achieving true racial equality.
Thank you to Dalek for getting into comics like The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, which I found incredibly funny and charming.
There's many more that I should thank for various things, but this post is getting way too long, so I'll just leave it with this: thank you for everything, Gaffers. I didn't really get to know the lot of you as well as I should have, but you helped think about and connect to things I otherwise might not have.
