By Method Go To PostDon't like dudes on here saying people shoulda known about EL. That's a bad lookTrue. I don't even think they "should have" known. Lots of people don't spend hours a day on neogaf. Whenever that shit got brought up it got swept under the rug too. If i wasn't here i wouldn't know..
By Karpalajoe Go To PostIt's on google first page if you type Tyler Malka, and he's not just the owner of the site, he's very well known on the forum. It's not a guy in the shadow who runs the site, he's - was - like a totemic figure there.I was on GameFAQs for like 10 years, never Googled CJayC once, totemic figure but I mean... why would I? Same for NeoGAF, always found it strange when people would fawn over the mods and whatnot.
It's hard to even know how much of a shit someone is when moderation shuts any of that down and those that called out problem behaviors of dear leader got permed regardless of how on point they were. The whole forum was set up to collectively massage dude's ego at every turn.
By Uno Venova Go To PostYou think finding out the real names of forum owners and researching them is expected & normal behavior?
He was very known in the community, don't act like he wasn't gaf most known figure. It's like using Steam from 2005 without knowing about Gabe Newell. Possible, but very unlikely.
By FreezePeach Go To Posthonestly anyone that managed to survive that moderation for years is probably not someone to be labeled that. I can guarantee you right now thousands are just looking for welcoming places cause GAF was fairly unique, despite leadership hypocrisy.
It was fairly unique, sure, but the people that managed to survive on the forum were just the most docile ones, there is nothing to be praised about it. If anything, I have more respect for people who speak up their mind (even if we're not speaking about Malka behavior), even if it get them banned for one reason or another. The majority who survived this moderation were just blowing in the wind directions everytime or avoiding touchy subjects on purpose.
Well if anyone wants site awareness or migration there are just threads dedicated to 'where to now?'. Apparently 1000+ people in discord somewhere. Gotta make sure its stipulated that apparently this place isnt a banned cesspit since being a banned username will instantly turn off most folks.
Well, yes and no, usually guys getting banned were banned for typical hate TOS stuff, so it was easy to follow as long as you didnt get into certain circles. Me i was banned 3 months ago for calling modbot a fascist because of abnormal thread closings. And only after that i discovered all the evilore shit. And i was there 12 years man. Addicted. That stuff actually happens, and not cause the person was bad!

To be clear its fine to express frustration at gaf right now but the main focus of this site is to be in community, so please don't just stay to whine about the unfair mods
Man. Crazy day it's been. Saw a couple of threads about EL being locked earlier today during lunch break and had a sinking feeling in my gut since it registered similarly to the previous Amir0x fiasco.
Really sucks that the community is gonna be fragmented since I've been there for so long, but nice to see some familiar names here all the same. How do I recruit? Just drop a URL linking here or just name drop slaent?
On a lighter note, it's pretty intriguing. I've seen the first few eps of S1 and it's got atmosphere in spades. S2 is pretty unsettling as well, tho doesn't seem as strong as what I've seen of S1

Creepypasta turned anthology series. Good ratings. About to blind pre-order it.
Anyone seen this?

The Wrasslegaf threads in OT LMAO.
I'm gonna miss this forum, the moderation has been stifling for such a long time it's fun to see people let loose like this. GAF was still the best back in 2010-12 or so.

I don't know if this is the thread to mention it (can't find the other SLAENT thread)
Sites and communities I would reach out to:
Sports-GAF - obviously. This board started out as the new NBA Forum, and rounding out the Sports Section (MLB and NFL especially) will go a long way in getting members.
TOONAMI-GAF - As a former member of TOONAMI GAF you don't get the hardcore anime nuts and get people legit willing to discuss animation, and not just "what's the latest to come outta Japan"
Footy-GAF - I don't even have to mention it since those guys are already contacting people, but I gotta say those guys have been fun to talk to in my limited interaction with them. Also they have no reservations about calling people a cunt.
I am checking my old links to see if I can still contact people. Also reilo, you might wanna see how much load this site can handle. You and Sharp should be very busy in the coming weeks.

By Xpike Go To PostTo be clear its fine to express frustration at gaf right now but the main focus of this site is to be in community, so please don't just stay to whine about the unfair modsI mean, this thread is about the GAF fuckery. For many of us its been years. My desire right now honestly is i want another place with semi-likeminded people congregating. We will get passed this but shit is still lit man!
By Karpalajoe Go To PostNah, it's on first page of google if you type Tyler Malka. Some people spent days and night on Neogaf for years, you won't make me believe they never typed "Tyler Malka" on google.Nah breh. Didn't know his name, didn't care about his name. I don't super sleuth people on the internet. I have no interest in being the next Carmen Sandiego. I assumed that by the size of the site and general quality of poster and thread discussion that it was reputable. That's all I needed to know to do what I was interested in doing on the site (talking about games, sports, sharing knowledge and information, etc.). The rest never interested me, definitely not the affairs of posters IRL. I don't even have a Twitter account so if not for some PM's I got tonight, I would have carried on assuming the site was down due to maintenance. Not being in the OT at all today, all of this was completely missed.
I've read gaf for a long time, people are just way too attached to their account, bending the knees on every occasions if a mod ask them to, just to not get banned. They knew, but they kept posting pretending they weren't aware. Maybe some of them are honest, but not the majority of them.
It's quite easy to not notice this shit on a site with deep communities, community threads, and hundreds of topics being discussed at any given moment.
By Method Go To PostDon't like dudes on here saying people shoulda known about EL. That's a bad look
It was my first time reading about the eurotrip ass grabbing drama.
Fuck, I was at GAF because of FootyGaf and gaming news mostly. I will miss it but it will be easily replaced.
The thing that is most surprising (I am naive) is the hypocrisy.
Is there a pics that make you laugh thread? I never go searching for funny pictures myself, so I depend on that thread to get some good ones. And hopefully it won't turn into a whole bunch of inside jokes here.
I don't think the mods were unfair as in I'm bitter, I just question the performative nature of banning people for shit you won't call out the boss on. Hell they weren't even paid.
By G Shumy Go To PostStarting to sound like voat in here lol..
Yeah sure. So let's resume : Gaf is in deep trouble because the owner of the site is a piece of shit and no one who knew dared to speak out about it, hence the reason - if I read you right - that nobody were aware of it.
Even if I believe you all did not know (nobody knew, of course, except me, a casual lurker), the problem clearly was that people who should have spoken did not because of fear of the moderation, or because of the fear being ostracized by other members for being a liars speaking about rumours. Look at the meltdown know, look at what power people have when they just speak out and rebel, look at gaf situation. People should always speak their mind, especially about touchy subject.
Yet, here someone - me, a lurker who know gaf quite well - is calling gaf members out, just speaking his mind, like every should be allowed to on a public board and you - indirectly - accuse of being GG or something ?
You're not on gaf here, don't try to replicate the technique you used there to shut people off.

I think one of the things GAF did right for such a large forum was exclusivity and strict moderation. Made people value their accounts and not just be assholes. Once they opened the gates to registration and moderators abused their power it went downhill, but there was period (years ago) where the whole forum was pleasant to read and not just the individual communities.
Slaent is small enough where people can just call out individuals without needing to really moderate but it will be difficult to keep that up the more trouble makers there are.

Oh well, on to the next one. Shit is mystifying to me. Like how hard is it REALLY to not be a creepy asshole that sexually assaults women? Anything other than immediately owning it is pretty bad in my eyes assuming its true. And it sounds like people knew so...
By PurpleMug Go To PostAnyway… just literally found out about this showIt's pretty decent. Goes for creepy instead of straight scary. Kinda slow and made on a shoestring budget though so I'm not sure it would be worth that price.

The thing that is amazing is the mass deletion of threads... like, you don't think that would look suspicious once the police/media start asking questions? The chickens are finally coming home to roost.

By Apollo Go To PostSeriously.
The last few months in OT has been one call-out and expose after another.

Real hard.
Evilore is a fascinating case study really.
Seemed like a broken person who ended up with enough money and weird brown-nosers to end up with a personality that flitted between emptiness, delusion, self-importance, egomania, desperate machismo and any number of other traits that that made him come across as being deeply unpleasant.
I'm not going to pretend I didn't already know that he's a creepy cunt, or that I didn't like quite a lot of things about gaf, but it's always been in spite of his influence and presence there. Decisions regarding the direction of the forum have been going down the shitter as well over the last few years.
Assuming gaf goes down with him, I'll think it's a bit of a shame tbh. But while karma is disproved time and again, a lot of the time you reap what you sow, and it's time for Tyler to eat the shit sandwich he's been cultivating over the years.
It's obviously too strong to call gaf collateral damage since it was created by him, and largely shaped by him, but if what he's been accused of is true (if lol), then I'll gladly watch it burn and just hope he can't bail out without suffering real consequences.

Lol, yeah, it's all about power, not about people being sick and deranged.
I also have "power" thank to my job (I work in fashion, Louis Vuitton), I never behaved like Malka or Weinstein and I'm a straight male working with and styling ( often even dressing) beautiful women on daily basis.
By NubCakes09 Go To PostWhat are the chances that NeoGAF survives all the drama? The way it looks right now? Unless there is a dramatic reversal the site may not last a month. It looks like alot of the old threads talking about his Thailand trip and shit are gone... can't find it.
