I’ve been a GAF member for 11 years and it was the first place I’d visit when I wake up and the last place I’d visit before I sleep. To see it’s end is both shocking and sad. I didn’t post much (as Bubblicious) but really enjoyed and loved the community. This place though is great so far and with a few familiar members here I feel comfortable to make it my new home.
Evillore always seemed a little creepy to me but I sort of felt a deal of respect for him for creating GAF and for sticking to good principles. After seeing the revelations of the past few days and the AmiRox cover up was very upsetting but glad the truth came out eventually.
It’s very unlikely I’ll return to NeoGAF and Resetera seems like it might fail due to it being setup by the former mods who I’m sure don’t realise they were part of the problem and probably don’t get that they were respected more out of fear of banning than genuine respect. It will probably be DOA if they have a strict sign up policy because they don’t have the status NeoGAF did plus it will be worse for them if GAF continues.
Glad to be a part SL&ENT and hope there’s a great Game of Thrones and LEGO fan base (we can start one here if there isn’t already lol).

There were Moderators there who didn't like particular posters and would use any pretext to ban them. Some of the messages that accompanied a ban were incredibly personal and vindictive.

Someone suggested that moderators should not have the ability to ban someone twice without review. I thought it was unnecessary / redundant because moderation policy ought to be (and on GAF, had been for at least since some time before I joined) done together. When I went through a thread, I would discuss posts and posters with other moderators. As I understand it, this became even more frequent after I left.
It doesn't particularly matter, in that scenario, whether Moderator A bans Poster A for two weeks, and then does it again three weeks later when Poster A does the exact same thing. It doesn't even matter if they actually don't like Poster A. It shouldn't be necessary to have Moderator B click the buttons when the decision-making process is the same either way.

Anyone who spoke about Amir0x was either banned, post deleted or outright purged from the forum entirely. "Mod's" is a blanket term I suppose, but with tools like modbot, you honestly shouldn't be surprised.
I was not a moderator at the time, but I would suspect that Evilore was the one driving policy there. I at least know that most everyone I've talked to about it would have favored having a topic in which to dump on him, and certainly no one thought denying that he knows his name... when he clearly did... was a particularly bright idea.
And I agree that people probably should have left (and I know at least one mod who was unaware of how the Amir0x news was handled and said that they would have then had they known) , but it was always a collective action problem with the moderation team.

I think, at the very least, ResetERA seems to be trying to move fast and actively court communities, at least, via Discord. I've been hanging out on Hearthstone GAF since Sunday and it looks like they are getting in touch with the moderators now. If enough communities move over it'll probably mean at least some trouble for NEOGAF coming back up.
Oh, and hey people. I didn't post a ton on GAF but I always appreciated stuff there. Sad to see it go, but I don't plan on coming back after things went down. I think that a casual user, there are a lot of things that can pass you by, but this seems like a bridge too far for me. I didn't know what was going down until the website was down even as I was posting on HearthGAF. It's been too long now though, I think many casual users will have caught wind of what's going down.

Ppl are too quick to say that resetera will fail but I think it can rebuild over time. Its not like in the old days where forums died and ppl just got lost. Social media is a bigger presence now and will make it easier to rebuild from the ashes.

Without a clear leader the mods certainly got selective on what stuff they were willing to moderate. Both OT's for the Trails Cold Steel 1 and 2 games were completely derailed and I ended up leaving them because there was so much shit posting and despite Duckroll being active in the thread he never cared about doing any sort of moderation.
