Just lookin for a place to get some info and talking points on games and culture
I don't really want to talk about what's going on but I do have an important question.
So it looks like the NeoGAF servers are back up but the entire site has been nuked clean. Every thread, every PM, all gone.
My question is regarding any possibilty that there is a site archive/snapshot somewhere out there? I had several threads bookmarked with recommendations for books, movies and music that I really want to copy.

But he hasn't nuked them. They're just hidden, I doubt he's that stupid to delete everything.

Neogaf refugee here as well. The place was really a great location for up to the minute gaming and news, and their individual communities were amazing places to be a part of. Like most, it was a one-stop-shop for information and without it, there is definitely a disconnect with what is happening even in the world. I will have to change my browsing in the mornings to focus on more locations like The Guardian (International), CBC and more.
Going to check out what you folks have here for miniature painting. I did a quick search and noticed you have a few painters here, which is great news!

I can see the correct amount of PMs in my inbox above the page, but get a maintenance message whenever I try to click on anything.
At this point, the only thing I'm interested in is back up some of my favourite threads that have been going for years.
I couldn't care less if they opened up the boards or not.
Give the GAF site a day or so to see if the site's data is restored - without a moderation staff I am not sure if posting will be re-enabled and I doubt anyone will use the site whilst Evilore is running it anyway.
I do feel lost without GAF always being open in a tab (or 20) but this place seems really neat and welcoming. I'll check out whatever spiritual successor they make, but will suck if I'm limited to joining based on the email I joined GAF with, cause that was a college email address from 10+ years ago.

By fester Go To PostI think it's possible to recognize that aspects of NeoGAF needed to be addressed without wishing the whole place be burned down or throwing out all the good it offered. And to pin anything on some posters seems really short-sighted. For every jerk, there were countless other helpful, informative, insightful people who actively contributed a lot of great ideas. (Right now I'm really missing threads like the SNES classic hacking thread with helpful information from people like Robin64.)
EvilLore is in the process of destroying a lot more than just a forum, but communities and a history that took years to develop. In a way it highlights just how risky it is to have control/authority limited to a single, fallible, person.
Seriously. NeoGAF was so much more than the few people. There were hundreds of thousands of people on the site.

I don't think Waypoint was the right fit after I read their mod posts, stickys, and other similar posts. I fear the influx of GAFers will change what they have there too much and as a GAFer looking for a place to land I don't want to 'ruin' what others have built just because there's a ton of us roaming around.

Because many times it wasn't civil discussion and it became a shouting match to score brownie points among other Gaffers. Many threads devolved to drive by posts against the one dude/gal who had a different opinion.
And why "challenge"? That word you used is very telling. Why does everything have to be a fight? Why can't we just accept that some folks think differently and that is OK. You may not agree, you may understand (you don't need to btw) it's an internet forum. MOVE ON.
Been reading since yesterday, many folks have posted stuff I don't agree with. I ask myself 1. If I post in response am I adding anything meaningful to the discussion? Nope. 2. Is it worth going back and forth with someone that I most likely will not get my point across with? Nope. Ok move on.

Yeah, I think my minimum requirement besides dealing with his behaviour is him at least becoming hands off and no more throwing his weight around.
I don't care if he Owns it as such, but it needs to change at a managerial level.

Generally speaking management is a top down culture. If he's there, even in the back, not much is changing. If the reset site starting wiping pages discussing the topic, you'll know his stink has affected the new site via osmosis.
