I lurked on GAF for a couple of years before deciding to join. I was on a small forum for a long time that declined in activity fairly quickly after a number of years being very active for its size. I never thought I'd actually join GAF, I thought it was far too active for me to ever keep up with, but in the end I realised it was a great site for just keeping up with what you wanted to and ignoring the rest, it's how I ignored the parts of GAF that were more toxic than others (and a lot of the dramatic nonsense that went on at times, although I obviously don't mean this is nonsense).

In the end I loved a lot of parts of GAF, heck I got all of my news there (apart from sports), even current affairs which to me was a bizarre notion on a gaming forum but between Gaming and Off-Topic there were 2 distinct worlds within the same universe almost.

I'll mostly miss discussing games that few others anywhere else played, and having a big thread on something like Blade Runner 2049 to throw theories around in or just discuss things like the OST or cinematography, and things like the Cheap Arse Gaffer thread for deals and that weird nature of getting to know people even in threads like that. I'll miss my bros in the Irish Thread and Parody Thread Urges the most, I got such a laugh from the latter in particular especially remembering members like Terrisus and Freaky Fred and how they got banned.

When this happened and with Evilore's reaction (or lack thereof) I initially said I couldn't see myself going back even if the site relaunched under new management completely detached from him, and at the moment I still feel that way. I honestly don't know where to go for the depth of gaming news that you could find there now. Any new site launched by some of the mods doesn't sound like something I'd want to be a part of either. But you guys look like you have a pretty nice setup here so hopefully this will work out for a lot of us (and I hope this mass influx of members like us won't ruin what you all had before) and can let us move forward to a place with less of the issues that GAF had.

That thread, like several others on GAF went downhill due to people not understanding why the old law was so bad. They saw "intentional HIV exposure now legal in California" and flipped out. What they didn't realize is that the old law was being used to prosecute people who didn't even transmit the virus.

But again, a lot of folks have migrated over from GAF so be patient with them finding their way and adapting to a new forum. Yeah i don't really get offended on the web, but i wanted to vent my frustration on these people. I loved that forum and hate what they did to it, they not the creep.
