It's pretty easy to keep the site up but keep the forum DB offline. For many it appears that the site has been purged, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they have. They're just not currently exposed for front facing consumption. I'm 99.4% positive that Tyler hasn't purged GAF or anything. At most he's gone through and scrubbed all talk of his situation with the young woman and banned folks who were talking about it all throughout GAF.

I used to read Neogaf for a few years, on and off, just because there was a huge amount of topics being covered every day, which made it a perfect place to F5 every so often, to see what new things happened around.
I did consider registering for it, but I had so little time IRL, that I never really got to it.
Now that it's gone, I realize I should have (or maybe proof that I really should not have, I guess).
One of the things I liked about NeoGaf was that it had a zero tolerance for all the stuff you see on so many other forums.
I used to post a lot on a comicbook board with Slayven, but around the advent of Trump's getting presidency, and people thinking it being edgy to go all Alt-Right, I just said F*ck it and stopped posting there. I see he didn't keep up posting much anymore either.
Hope to rectify my mistake of not joining the community earlier.

I doubt Tyler has the technical know how to do that. He didn't handle anything technical regarding NeoGAF. Server maintenance was done by others, site design was done by others. At most all he really handled were what ads appeared on GAF.

I'm not sure if it's still the case but mobile gaf is/was a separate site that scraped gaf for content. I think when it became official it continued to work the same way so the site showing nothing might just be because the main site is down.

Eh, I'm completely fine with it as long as everyone can acknowledge that many people felt this practice was well withing the realm of plausibility of what Gaf mods would do... so at the end of the day those who don't want to see Gaf the way the rest of the internet community does don't have to and nothing will change their minds. The fact that many people believe its possible that this is something they might do is telling enough, no need to struggle or argue further because that fact alone speaks for itself so having to target individuals intelligence is a last resort when the overall war has been lost that Gaf is viewed as having outrageous and draconian moderation standards.

They're pretty forgiving and tend to have options for nearly everything. You just log into the admin section and select hide as option for the OT and/or gaming.
