Troll account or not, if Besada is involved I question the whole reboot. Heās exactly the kind of mod that shouldnāt be involved if impartial discussion is what theyāre aiming for. Been really busy with life / work the last few days and missed the whole thing. Trying to catch up today by going through this thread but only up to page 40 as of now. Has there been any more recent developments?
I was a member since 09 I think and while not a particularly prolific poster I must have averaged at least an hour on GAF everyday during those years. I was pretty scary when I twitter searched āneogafā wondering why it had been down all day and seeing the gamergators dancing on itās grave, a harsh reminder of what a lot of places on the internet are like and that now I had no place to go. Gaf was pretty much my window into the wider world of entertainment, culture and current events. Iām glad to see a lot of farmilar names here, but I guess a lot of the community will disappear and remain fractured? I got linked to a now seemingly abandoned discord on twitter and saw this place mentioned, no doubt a lot of the members will land in other places or simply wonāt bother.
I never heard about the drama with EL until now but seems like heās pretty much got what was coming to him, just a shame so many communities are going down with him. This whole āme tooā thing has really woken me up to how naive I have been about shear scale and pervasiveness of sexual harassment problems in our society and has had me feeling really shitty about the world in general recently.
Seeing a lot of shit-talking and good riddance sentiments and while obviously the forum was not perfect and there were numerous issues it really did have a lot of good things going for it. Strict no bigotry policy and generally not standing for users personally insulting each other, and a huge user base of passionate people meaning you could always find people to talk about. That was really valuable to someone like me because hardly know anybody in real life who is genuinely passionate about games or watches the same niche TV shows as me, etc. I posted in the mental health thread occasionally a few years ago when I was depressed and didnāt know where to turn and there were some lovely people around willing to give advice. Sure there were a good number of assholes but there was also a ton of smart, funny people from all kinds of professions and from all over the world.
Iāll stick around on here and see how it goes, the design of this site is nice especially on mobile. Now back to reading this thread haha.

The only way I can see him salvaging it is if he wipes the last day or so of pandemonium, gets a mod staff ready to hit the floor day 1, and when he finishes The Winds of Winter his statement, it should say heās no longer affiliated with the site and then publicly seppukuās his account. Even then, itāll be a while for 4chan to find something more entertaining to troll (maybe they can go back to photoshopping war widows Facebook posts), so the site will be a treacherous place for an extended period of time.
