By Random Ass Username Go To PostYou really talking this shit? Telling me I haven't been around women? FOH. Been knowing plenty of people. You'd be surprised how meters get broken by horrible family life and abusive relationships.I think what the subsequent article and information coming out shows is not necessarily that this wasn't a total creep move, that probability certainly is still present, if not the likely explaination, but that it highlights how much of the context and story we don't know, and are just filling in gaps with our own biases and assumptions. That the reality seems a bit more grey than black and white.
Though given some of Evilore's sleazy PUA style posts in the past, and his behavior in the aftermath, my biases tend to point me in a particular direction. I think for good reason. Still.

By Uber_Tag Go To PostThat's such a smart approach to moderating a massive forum. Especially if there's full transparency over who that mod is and they're actively engaged in discussion themselves. Hell, I'm a mod on a much more modest forum that employs the same philosophy.Honestly, a large part of resentment from communities to the rest of GAF, and why people felt the need to hide in niche's was that mods were stretched thin and it was hard to know what was a community correcting it self, vs people being toxic. And so out side of obvious stuff (posting porn, copyrighted stuff, hate speech) ... the subtleties were hard to know for mods.
That's not hating mods, just how it played out.
Biases nothing. People hook up with abusive or predatory folks constantly. Don't leave abusive relationships. Doesn't make the shit they endure any less awful or the folks who do it any less awful. It's how folks are socialized. Benefit of the doubt. Stick with what you know. Etc, etc. And predators look for folks who got broken meters because they're easier to manipulate.

If that doesn't raise some fucking alarms in your head then you haven't been around many women and you put them on a pedestal that is way over your head.
It shouldn't raise any alarms with anyone who understands how victims (especially women due to societal pressures placed upon them to handle the emotional trauma and how society places blame on them for the actions of men making them question if they (the women) are the ones overreacting or not).
Now think about the fact that many women will blame themselves due to societal treatment of women, and how men prey on that particular vulnerability. In the case of Evilore, he did what he did. In the back of her mind she's already questioning what SHE did to lead to this, this nagging thought never goes away. Evilore goes back to being the really "sweet/nice guy" and it makes her doubt herself even more. She starts thinking "maybe I did lead him on that night, maybe I did want him in the shower"; because look at him now, he's treating her so well. Yea it wasn't his fault it was definitely hers, now she feels bad that she did that to a friend, she feels terrible she put her friend through all of that because she "overreacted". Later on, she has no boyfriend now, and here's this great guy, why not date him?
I'm not trying to talk down to you or shit or you, but you should think about all of these things.
By NaughtyRskl Go To PostShe openly said to the Kotaku interviewer that she continued her friendship with him AND got physical after.I'm not sure if you're aware of how this reads or comes off, but it seems as if you're implying that this woman came forward and shared her experience that night with the sole intention of taking your beloved website down.

By Bold 2 in One Go To PostYou could always bring back the ads, I do miss the Iranian wives one.Lol.
Google ads banned us. The high click through rate from everyone here had them mark us, the owners, as the ones making tons of false clicks. (which, if you didn't know, a click gives you about 1000x more than a simple ad view).
The appeals process is pretty lame, and our traffic wasn't worth them worrying about.
They virtually gave us a "Who the fuck are you?".

Whenever I posted on GAF i always wondered where the line was and how the files they had on people influenced threads. I was always curious if I went over the line with my negativity towards the Patriots or if I did the right thing like any honest American would do.

By Not Go To PostAre you a woman? Or have you been harassed in a similar manner?
No im not a woman, but what makes you think i don't have the right to suspect one of bullshit or criticise one ?
You one of them dudes who posts "believe women" religiously on twitter and self flagellate on social media for any girl that says she got cat called ?
Look, sexual harassment and rape is no joke, and i know women suffer it more than men, but from that to taking every suspicious story that comes from one as the absolute truth without anything to back it up is a stretch my mind won't take. (even more so when the facts make it seem more like a lover's spat and revenge than anything).

One thing being wrong another thing claiming he's the arbiter of knowing all women and I somehow don't. And she's lying just because she's honest about a relationship that followed. Sexual assault is suddenly not so because you later had a relationship with an individual? Might as well chide every woman or man who's stayed with their rapist for all kinds of fucking reasons.

Gaf was in a word convenient. I can say for myself in my many years of internet surfing, it was like one website vs X amount of websites to get the daily news, information on specific topics/threads. I came there originally for reading gaming discussion but eventually stayed as I found more official topics which associated with my interests. I lurked it longer than I was a member for, but a lot of that daily convenience over the years was mired with filtering out the garbage which was quietly cultivated.
I've been a non-existent poster on SL&ENT I came here originally to lurk the original NBA discussion thread. It's cool to see this place have more activity with even more topics/threads, it deserves it.

And i would advise you to be more critical of others, female or male. Your parents should have educated you about this.
By Thunder Monkey Go To PostI don't have quite the same backstory.
I have a lot of minority and mix raced family members, but the patriarch when all of them were growing up, my grandfather, was a giant fucking racist most of the time. So we rarely if ever talked minority issues. Something that's seemingly continued on after his death for some of them.
So I knew their experiences were different, but still didn't have anywhere near the grasp.
My family is actually a fairly progressive one from New Jersey; both grandparents grew up in or around minority communities and have always been aware of how these communities experience life differently in America. We moved to NC to escape a bad situation, though, to a place that's literally 97% white conservative Christians, and that normalized a lot of things for me that I didn't realize were so steeped in racism. Even having PoC friends, it didn't necessarily come up because I'm sure their negative experiences aren't something that's fun to talk about. As I became more exposed to minority experiences shared on GAF I made an effort to ask my friends about their own (when appropriate, of course). Thank God I did or I might have turned out like that /pol/ kid earlier in the thread.
Pleasure to make your acquaintance, btw. Kinda crazy to read these threads then suddenly remember I can post lol. I'm gonna try to keep to the background in this thread while the actual GAF members process everything tho.
By NaughtyRskl Go To PostNo im not a woman, but what makes you think i don't have the right to suspect one of bullshit or criticise one ?I know you're afraid of things somehow going too far in the other direction, and it'll be a dystopian hellscape where women will universally be allowed to slander innocent men with no repercussions whatsoever, but trust me, TRUST ME, that's not gonna happen in your lifetime, if it ever will. The structures of power are firmly in place. Men control the world, the media, the discussion, the culture. Women are still only believed when men speak up for them.

If some random woman is lying, as a man, you'll be fine. You'll continue to be fine. But the women who are and have been telling the truth will not be. Because "women" are a monolith in our culture. A giant group to be stereotyped and generalized over. If one woman lies, they all did. That hardly ever, ever applies to men. At least on a comparative scale.
You'll make much more progress towards equality and true justice in the world around you by standing up for women in our society by default than believing that men somehow regularly need protection from them.
This just in, people have relationships with folks who did them wrong before, it's practically bred into women too, from birth. "Boys will be boys." But he keeps hurting me. "That just means he has a crush."
....
....
Relationships aren't perfect, sometimes some you stay with people you should run away from for all of the wrong reasons.
She was sexually harassed, but continue to trust him after. This is normal.
The fact that she still saw it as a dark time for her says a lot about how fucked up the situation is, and what Evilore did.
Getting naked in front of a woman for sex only works in sitcoms.

I want it to be a success, but I'm nervous about that aspect. I think SL&ENT may actually have an opportunity to kind of grow and still hide in the shadows for some time. Seems pretty good here.

I totally agree, like i said dude was a creep, hell he looked like a creep and most of these self confessed feminist "allies" are most of the time slimey mofos with ulterior motives. They were there before this feminist wave, the guy that everyone pretended to like, and males around him were always tense, intelligent females always avoided, basically the workplace creep.

I'm actually shockingly okay with it. Got this site in my bookmarks, a lot of the same peeps I've known for years are here. GAF was only GAF because you could have legit great convos with someone until they or you pissed a mod off randomly. Sometimes the ban made perfect sense, other times you were like "Her?"
Probably not a GREAT idea to be using pills as their design motif considering the existence of r/redpill and the circumstances of GAF's closure.
By NaughtyRskl Go To PostHate to break it to you friend, but your in for a rude awakening later in life, how old are you btw ? Be honestYou're leaning into this "oh you don't know how women are, oh you don't have any experience" shtick harder than someone would who actually has knowledge and experience. It's cringey. Learn to be well spoken and flesh out your opinions with something, anything, that could lend them legitimacy before you try to play the role of condescending.
My favorite part of GAF was the NFL Thread. It's weird what happened to NBA-GAF. An entire community wiped out. It was strange when the sports threads went from top billing to moved out as if they were competing with the vision of what GAF was supposed to be.

If you've got an argument against what a user is saying, let them hear it, don't just talk about them like you're objectively "better" than them. Everyone has to learn somehow, and most do adjust their viewpoint when people approach them with sympathy AND firmness, not just one or the other.
