By PurpleMug Go To PostMore than happy to do it. Bit late to work on it now and I should be sleeping lol (5:00 am here) but tomorrow I'll make clean PSD files, pngs and detail fonts for those who want it.Just now saw this post. Take all the time you need.
I just want to know where the Media Create/NPD posters and insiders are going to end up. I could care less who runs the show tbh.

They really need a better name for that site.
By viciousds Go To Postyou talking about the phone and thumbs to the shower one?yeah, that one was the "funniest" to me
Ok, so, I'm absolutely engrossed in this entire situation, but because of the history of the site I'm a regular to, I'm gonna have to just promise that I'm not gonna kick a dude when he is down- I'm
Ok
So, I am not from NeoGAF, I'm from 4chan (/pol/) and Im not even here to start any sort of flame wars
I'm here because I have some questions, and I just want to know what happened.
Out of respect for you guys, I'm not gonna have any sort of opinion on the matter, I just want to fully understand how a site this large can collapse this fast-
I swear this isn't bait, or a raid, I just figured that I might as well ask the actual users of NeoGAF about some aspects of what went down, and why.
So- I have just a few questions to start with
1: I can't find a good sense of a timeline at the moment, can I get an accurate window from start to finish? I just want to know how long it took.
2: Was this something that was potentially known beforehand by mods and admins? I can't tell if the sudden moderator drop off is from shock or not.
3: I don't want to delve in the merits of different ideologies, but I'm really curious about one thing: how many people on NeoGAF we're proponents of the strict far-left leaning political climate it was known for?
I fully know what it's like to disagree with certain ideas that my preferred site seems to hold a status quo towards- but, and I am asking because my biases skew my opinion on this- how many people thought that the groupthink dynamic was very strong?
Look, I'll just be blunt, I've seen some really really fringe far left ideas that are just absurd being paraded in NeoGAF like they were generally accepted views held by the userbase. I refuse to accept that the groupthink was that bad, and I totally see a reason as to why you wouldn't even think to post about disagreeing- I just need to know one thing, are we talking a very small vocal minority? It just sounds like people just did not ever disagree to avoid getting immediately banned.
How many people just held their mouth shut? Genuinely asking.

Yeah I'm officially pulling for this place, the design is so slick and everyone has been extremely welcoming. Everything I've seen about ResetEra is making me wary, and I don't have my original email to sign back up anyway. Hopefully both are hugely successful but I see this as being more of a home along with a host of discords to keep up with some of the broken communities.

I don't get how them pulling the email/ban list is even legal? I mean, technically, isn't all that EL's property?

Still, Slaent incorporating gaming will probably make for a less "competitive" discussion that might be really welcome.
so someone in discord that was a mod didn't have 2FA activated and got compromised and almost F'ed the entire gafdiscord......this shit aint going to last
I think your right, as this is a new site with ad revenue its almost like stealing a client list

After the hot garbage of that name and logo design, I had to daydream and quickly make a SLAENT logo/cover/graphic thingy for a dedicated gaming section.
Hope I dont piss off veteran members with this. Just fighting off boredom with photoshop here, not imposing anything :P

By D23 Go To PostLost count on how many times I tried to access gaf today from my phone (old habit). I know the site is down but man.. ten years straight of browsing gaf everyday. Missing it like crazy… but I'm starting to get used at posting here 😃I've been doing that all damned day, I have links on my address bar that I click through to open up and go through each. I've probably clicked the
Gaf logo about 20 times throughout the day.
So many basement sharks looking for blood....so pathetic.
Fuck this whole reunion is gonna have a ton of setbacks.

By Alcotholic Go To PostI'm not really a fan of the name and logo. But that's not here nor there.
I mean. Its gonna have a hard time getting off the ground if its spear heading GAF's true successor. Hopefully developers will give it a second chance. And maybe the new founders will work with the industry to make it really work. GAF had a lot more influence than most would like to admit.
I think the days of devs having as close contact with a GAF as they had is over. They were only there because of the sway that GAF had. That’s gone now.
I can't even remember what email I used for my neogaf account. I literally only sued it for neogaf. I don't think they would pull over the email list though.
Also, regardless of bias, I can identify a solidly built website when I see one. Whoever is the web dev for this site, really solid job.
I'd suggest a reload button at the bottom of the page, and maybe a toggle switch for auto reload every 15 seconds or so
Would be a great touch, imho.

Is the email/ban list carry over to ResetEra confirmed? If so, I'm pretty sure that's illegal as I doubt EL would sign off on a transfer to a rival site.

There were some areas that probably went a little too far, and the moderating got bad in recent years. However, I really had zero interest in reading about homophobia or racism or practically any thoughts that a Trump supporter had, and it was heaven in this way.
By Directed by Fulci Go To PostThat's only going to come with numbers. That is true. Sorry trying not to sound negative on Slaent, great site and all, just that I haven’t had the need for any other site in a long while. Going to take some getting use to.
By Pastry Go To PostI think the first say of devs having as close contact with a GAF as they had is over. They were only there’s because of the sway that GAF had. That’s gone now. This is how I feel as well. Gaf grew organically at a time when the internet was still young and devs and others who ended up rising in the video game industry had accounts on gaf. That place was a part of their own internet history in a way a new forum won't be.

Nice work, for gaming the banners would be cool if they were platform or IP agnostic. Something that represents gaming and not just an individual game character, etc.

fucking lmao
Not even gonna lie, I was a hardcore Reddit user until 2012 and I'm still using it for the more obscure subreddits.
Im not here to do anything but just find out the story, I really am just trying to learn about a massive website exploding. Politics be damned, this is a very big event just from the large amount of daily traffic and the notoriety of NeoGAF
I'm sure you'd be just as interested in finding out how 4chan imploded if the roles were reversed.

2. Not the Facebook post no, the ass-grabbing thing, yeah.
3. It depends on what you feel was "far-left" about GAF, most users were pretty standard centerish-left standard liberals. There weren't a lot of true leftists or what have you on there. There were some that had a tendency to derail threads and others who had some silly Tumblr-esque ideas (and they've been named ITT) but they were a small minority.
I'm hearing rumors that a bunch of mods in the Resetera discord were fakes? Anyone know if there is any validity to that?

I have to laugh when people say Gaf was well moderated. There was some sketch shit on a daily basis, to say nothing about the questionable posts like you describe.

By GringoSuave89 Go To PostSo, is Reset Era real? Cause going by the hashtag on twitter, it's already a shitshow.well your mistake was going by twitter in the first place. 90% of the discussion about gaf/resetera are by people who hate the place (ggers, people who were banned/people who buy into the negative hype, etc).
If twitter were intelligent, worthwhile discussion we wouldn't need forums.
