Just heard about an WNBA team forfeiting a game due to travel time and being tired. No wonder no one gives a SHIT about that sport and laughs anytime ESPN forces it down peoples throats.

The story presented to me was missing key information, so that's my bad. I hold firm on the status of the league and general interest in it. It's not a good product and is a contractual obligation to ESPN. I fully believe that would air something else in those timeslots if possible.

It's also practically a baby league with barely any funding. You're comparing it to modern NBA basketball that's been around for 70 years, whereas the WNBA is even younger than the MLS.
By RATHasReturned Go To PostNo. I have not watched the 2018 season. The handful of games I've watched this season have been pretty good and ratings/viewership are going up. No where near the NBA but still averaging over 250K viewers per game on ESPN2 in addition to however many watch on the official streaming service.

but to keep it 100 the WNBA playoffs have been better than the NBA's for the past 4-5 years. its not the players fault that a storm that effected travel across that entire section of the country happened to hit them too.
outside of women's tennis, there's really not that many reliable women's sports draws in the US. says a lot when MMA of all things understands marketing better than institutions that have been around for decades.

only the 3-1 comeback playoffs were better

i mean we can laugh at houston missing 40 3s in a row but its not exactly good basketball. same kinda thing with march madness - its hilarious, but terrible
i'd watch any lynx game over another episode of ben simmons roty pg
By s y Go To Post#LowerTheRimI actually agree with stuff like this. I am partial to dunking but mostly modifying the game, any sport really, with the women's physicality in mind instead of a carbon copy of the men's seems like it'd be better for all involved.
WNBA has been p entertaining this season iunno.
We watch garbage summer league basketball but can’t stomach women’s basketball? Cmon

How does anyone even watch the games when they air in the afternoon? I'm confused. Like the game were the person scored 53 or whatever for the Wings, that game was during lunchtime or something. How can they even get viewers?
Bball is the only sport i follow where i don't pay attention to the Women's side. That's a shame. I should catch more games.
I just don't find women's bball interesting. Women's soccer is pretty cool at the international level. I catch a good amount of women's (and men's) tennis just so I can talk shop at work. Women's volleyball and softball are entertaining.
Hell I enjoy women's wrestling more than the guys for the most part.

Serious question, does the WNBA have goons?
I honestly have never seen an entire WNBA game. What makes it unappealing when women's soccer, mma, tennis, track&field etc.. isn't?
By Mariosalic Go To PostI honestly have never seen an entire WNBA game. What makes it unappealing when women's soccer, mma, tennis, track&field etc.. isn't?I am thinking lack of goons...
But really the lack of dunks is the only answer... the dunk is like a HR, an ace, KO, soccer goal, or whatever... It is that play in basketball that gets everyone hyped and it's not there...
By Mariosalic Go To PostHonestly never thought dunks were all that cool.well I can't answer why you wouldn't like the WNBA then because other than that it isn't missing much else...
Maybe because i started with new school ball.
what is new school ball btw?

Heavy focus on 3 pointers.
Average 3PA went from 15 in 2000 to 18 in 2011
+3 in 11 years
Since 2011 to 2018 it went from 18 3PA to 29 and still rising. I would consider 2011/12 to be the start of a new era.
A player getting hot from 3 is the most exciting thing in Bball to me.

People forget the pace of the 70s/80s games. Doug Moe would be a god if he was coaching today, the Nuggets averaged 126 in 81/82, 123 a game in 82/83 and 83/84 and around 115 for the whole decade.
The Nuggets pace from 81/82 onwards - 110 possessions a game, 112, 110, 108, 107, 106, 105, 107, 105. Then they had 113 a game in 1990 with Paul Westhead.
The Rockets and Warriors 97.6 and 99.6 respectively last season. SSOL Suns never broke high 90s.
Since 2000, only 7 teams have broken 100 for pace - 16/17 Nets (LOL), 17/18 Pels, 09/10 Warriors, 16/17 6ers, 17/18 Lakers, 17/18 Suns, 15/16 Kings, 16/17 Rockets. And they were all between 101.3 and 100.
Here's a link to teams with 100+ pace since 80/81. There's well over 100 of them and most in the 80s.

Vegas has got the Spurs and last year’s 3 seed Blazers dropping right out of the playoffs.
10 games worse because of ariza? lol ok. Easy money on the over.
spurs are somehow expected to be worse than last year when they won 47 without kawhi leonard, tony parker getting meaningful minutes, and kyle fuking anderson starting.

And yeah, exchanging melo for ariza is a net negative
By s y Go To Post#LowerTheRimYou can't lower the rims. Where are girls gonna get a chance to practice this gimmick ass sport you've invented before turning pro? Do you envision a bunch of separate but equal courts going up across the country?

They don't have to get to 60, just 55. They'll probably do that by the end of March.
