By diehard Go To PostI'm kinda a believer in the Elam endingIt's interesting but I actually need to watch games that use it before I can have a strong opinion on it.
Elam Ending is some shit you use in primary school before you get to big boy rules.
Shit sounds horrendous.

If you want to make a game into shit, you deserve that right as a professional athlete. Elam robs everyone of that choice
I just read up on it.
Won't it just make it so that teams don't really need to give a fuck for the first 44mins of the game? A 7pt deficit with 4mins to go is nothing.

By reilo Go To PostI just read up on it.No, it makes the target score +7 to whatever the leading team has. If you’re down 30, now you need to score 37 to win before your opponent scores 7.

By reilo Go To PostI just read up on it.It just adds 7 point to the highest score to be the winning score. If a team is up 100-80 when 4 minutes hits, whoever gets to 107 first wins. So if you don't care about having a huge cushion then i guess you can not care before then.

By s y Go To Postso if the team is down 7, they have to score 14 points to win.yeah, intentional fouls are much better.
no thanks
By diehard Go To Postyeah, intentional fouls are much better. They are.
This rule was inspired by people who can't hit free throws or break a press.
Obvious foreign meddling SMH
It was inspired by people who don't want to watch the final 2 minutes of a game take 15 minutes
makes blowouts more exciting too tbh

That's when possessions are valued the most, plays are forced to executed way better, defenses give nothing, etc. Make your free throws, cowards.
If anything needs it's last two minutes changed its the NFL.
By DY_nasty Go To PostFinal 2 minutes of a game are great lolTalking to casuals, the parade of free throws at end of games are absolutely the biggest turn-off for them watching basketball, i hear it all the time. I hate the "Lets burn clock so just hold the ball for 20 seconds, go 1 on 1 and jack a stepback" offense that teams with leads do. Basing your offense around the clock and not just .. basketball.. is lame.

By s y Go To PostIntentional fouls arent even really allowed in the last 2 minutes casualhardNo, intentional fouls on people who don't posses the ball aren't allowed you casual. The NBA might call that a "intentional foul", but the act of purposely fouling someone is literally intentional fouling. If you wan't to be pedantic about the language, It would be what they call a "take foul".

Except the shot clock is a huge part of basketball. It's why teams regularly score more than 50 points now.
The Elam thing is just stupid. And it has no mechanism that stops intentional fouling anyway.
You're up 1 with 4 minutes to go. So the other team now needs to score 8 points in 4 minutes. ... I"m hacking the fuck out of DAJ. Or shaq. Or any terrible FT shooter.
It also bring in an element of stupid luck. If that team down 1, now needs to score 8 to win. If they bomb in 3 straight 3's in a minute ... they win? While there's 3 minutes on the clock?
Just play out the fkn game.
By livefromkyoto Go To PostNo I shouldn’t. Get out of here with that Cthulhu shit.
I have a sneaking suspicion half the people I know quietly peaked at age 23.
I certainly did. It's been downhill ever since. I'm happy if make it to 30.

For me the worst part of it is the final two mintues taking 15 minutes because of free throws, reviews and time outs. I know they've shortened it again but it needs to be quicker still.
By giririsss Go To PostExcept the shot clock is a huge part of basketball. It's why teams regularly score more than 50 points now.Nothing changes about the shot clock with the Elam ending, it's still there. It absolutely has a mechanism to stop "take fouls" because right now it's done to stop the game clock, not because the other team will score less efficiently at the line than they do with their offense.

There's no real change to the "stupid luck" thing either, if a team gets hot and hits 3 straight 3's at the end of the game without the Elam ending, then they are probably going to win either way. The 4 minute thing isn't the important part of the theory, hell make it 2 minutes. I guess i don't see any more luck in relying on your own team to hit 3's than it is relying on the other team to miss free throws (or vice versa).
To me it's even more "just play out the game" than it currently is, there's no sudden change of strategy just because the game clock forces it. Can you imagine the epic comebacks it would lead to? Shook teams couldn't just hold the ball and pray their free throws went it, they would actually have to keep scoring.
I'm not even saying leagues should use it, and it does have downsides... i just see the advantages and like them.
By blackace Go To PostCan't wait until the NBA puts in the "Gotta win by 2" ruleOh i still want the "3's only count for 3 if made off the pass" idea.

the right
way

This guy rather have Hayward, Frye, and Ariza than Lebron in 2014... Yeah, Kyrie is cancelled. Has been for a while.

I'm going to need your hating ass to point to where in that tweet it said Kyrie would rather have those dudes. All it said was that he had recruited them.
By pkaz01 Go To PostConsidering the alternative won them a championship I'd say they got lucky.its not like anyone in cleveland had any real control over lebron coming or going

If he recruited them, and he has ON RECORD said he never wanted Lebron to come back and all the other smoke he has said in regards to being able to carry the team without Lebron.
What does that tell you, it speaks for itself.

Elam does nothing to stop the clock. And does nothing to stop intentional fouls. It just doesn't. It just potentially stops the game earlier? To what end?
Whole thing seems pointless.

I haven't seen the words that Kyrie, on wax, said he didn't want LeBron back. Other people have put those words into his mouth, but I have yet to see a direct quote. And more importantly, I haven't seen a direct quote where he said he would rather run with Haywood and Ariza than LeBron, particularly in 2014. In 2018? I'd believe it, sure.
What does speak for itself is that you are still mad about 2016. 3 out of 4 should help you get over it.
