KD getting a life time roast for those lollipop rings
People are so disgusted with this dude. Nothing he ever does on a basketball court matters. He's Theon Greyjoy lording over Winterfell wondering why nobody respects him.

KD doesn't get how much of a bitch move he made. Nobody respects him outside the Bay area, and the CJ thing let it be known that players think he ain't shit either for doing it.
It's been 2 years and he still has to answer for it. Nobody gonna let him sleep well or walk around without letting him know how much of a weak move it was, and you can tell people reactions bothers the shit out of him everyday despite what he says.

Story on Paul George's decision to stay in OKC.
It's like, the anti-KD.
I do kind of enjoy that the pendulum is swinging back the other way from "rings = everything" to "Great players are great players". Nobody is going to elevate Cousins to an all-time great center when he has more rings than Ewing.
Story on Paul George's decision to stay in OKC.
It's like, the anti-KD.
George said he privately decided to return to the Thunder several weeks before free agency began on July 1. He also acknowledged having an expectation that NBA star LeBron James would sign with the Lakers as a free agent.
So why didn't George give the Lakers a meeting in free agency?
"It was absolutely tempting," George said. "Honestly, I wanted to come back home. But again, I got traded to Oklahoma. Loved the situation. Loved where I was at. I decided to stick around a little longer. …
"I just wanted my free agency to be over with. In my heart, I felt great about Oklahoma and I wasn't going to prolong it if I felt good about it already."
"I felt when it came down to it and all the factors that played into it, deep down there was a nasty taste where we finished," George said. "I just felt I had more to offer. I had more to give. I just felt about where we were as a whole."

Anti-KD? More like he didn't want to be LeBron's punching bag.
There is a clear difference being a 2nd to Russ where he still would have the ball in his hands most times and retain a reduced but similar role in Indy. In LA his ass would be in the corner and his main role would be little brother to LeBron.

Wouldn't shock me if KD bails on the dubs after next season--3 rings, 3 years to build close silicon valley contacts. It's clear the cupcake path is draining the shit out of him.

This is definitely a take.

The universe is just conspiring to make it an easier decision for KD to come to Lakers and let LeBron be his big brother.

Get swept out of the playoffs 3 times in 4 years then act hard done by.
Unless Ujiri’s having blood mingling African brotherhood ceremonies with you, the emo reactions are kind of making clearing things out look like the right call.

He told the first player ever down for The Raptors that he wasn't going anywhere and then traded him. He owned up to misleading DeMar.
I doubt the drama is over for Ujiri either since DeMar's best friend is still on the roster. That's before you take into account that the guy he traded for hates Toronto and is a free agent next year. Was a huge risk, and they'll definitely get more wins this season for it, but I think the fallout long term probably doesn't go in Ujiri's favor.
It's not what he did (he made the smart basketball move) its how he did it and how public its become.
How he did it and how public it is only matters if you do it to a player like Kawhi.
So all this heat should be on Pop instead.

No, I am saying that because I am a hater of all irrelevants, which the Spurs were already gonna be without Kawhi and are going to be even more with DeMar.

I don't think a coach, especially one as beloved as Pop who is 2 seasons from retirement, is gonna be held to the fire for how a FO handled a player situation. Ujiri on the other hand gonna have to work his magic if he plans on sticking around the league in a GM capacity.
Morey overcame a pretty bad rep, but he traded Kevin Martin and other scraps for a future MVP/franchise player. Ujiri's move might result in a rebuild with no star on the roster.
It makes sense regardless of if Kawhii stays or not...as they probably were going to blow it up soon anyway...but goddam did they do it in a ugly fashion that could come back to bite them in the ass.
If Leonard stays, it's all good, so bet Ujiri is gonna pull out all the stops and do the absolute most he can.
By Moris Go To PostHe told the first player ever down for The Raptors that he wasn't going anywhere and then traded him. He owned up to misleading DeMar.That article makes the point though - what is all this drama actually about? Is the actual expectation that a GM is calling a guy up letting him know every time he’s almost traded or his name comes up in negotiations, then expecting him to come back & ball out for the team knowing he was just 95% of the way out the door?
But beyond that I guarantee you, when Masai told DeRozan he wasn’t about to be traded, he was telling the truth. He wasn’t parting with Siakam or OG, and the Spurs were telling the world they weren’t settling. I’m sure at that point nobody expected them to suddenly cave and take the deal they did, including Ujiri. When he’s on the plane back from Africa and they suddenly called up and said yes, nobody doing that job can say no to it.
I mean you’re right, if the net effect is that people don’t trust him then it boomerangs. But I think 95% of players and 100% of agents are way more mercenary than to make decisions that way.
I don't think Ujiri was malicious in his decision making or anything and 100% believe he wanted to do right by DeMar. He was between a rock and a hard place, likely wouldn't have been a blip on the radar had the Kawhi thing not been the biggest story of the offseason.
Right or wrong, one of the biggest take aways by players and Demar himself is that Ujiri did DeMar dirty. An Unfortunate cost of doing business. I'm looking forward to see how this all plays out, cause by next off season we could easily be saying Ujiri is a genius.

You don't have to be a genius to trade for a contract year Kawhi though... especially if all you have to do is give up DeMar and then you get Kawhi's best friend Danny Green too.
Pop was practically handing out gifts to Ujiri.
DeMar should be mad at Pop.
