How did Mbappe win it then?

By Hitch Go To PostWhat are the parameters of the Golden Boy award? It's a nomination/points system with a jury composed of journalists from a lot of different newspapers. It clearly has similar limitations to other awards with a wide jury pool drawn from a group of individuals who are assumed to be competent based off of their profession. Essentially, a player with a lot of exposure is likely to end up at least on everyone's list, regardless of the nationality of the voter, while equally talented players at smaller clubs/without as much hype around them won't. You could argue that exposure and talent go hand in hand, but I'm not sure it's a 1:1 ratio. There's a reason neither a defender or a goalkeeper has ever won it, for example.

By Laboured Go To PostRashford came 2nd.I've read Dembele 2nd and Rashford 3rd. But other lists have Gabriel Jesus 3rd instead.

For the last 10 years all you needed to do was decide who had the better season and you had your Balon d'Or winner. Some actual thought will need to go into the nominations.
By GQman2121 Go To PostKlopp still very much needs Lovren. There are a ton of games over the next eight weeks.Yep
That match should have been the Skrtel-Southampton moment, where you simply can't pretend any longer that a player is anything other than a liability. But the options are Klavan, Gomez and Can. Another dreadful centreback, a teenager who has played precisely an hour of Premier League football at centreback, and a CM who seemingly can't be bothered as his contract winds down.
afaik there aren't any youngsters anywhere near breaking through back there as well

I still haven't a clue why Klopp decided it was VVD or nothing. Extremely shortsighted. Plus, Sakho was right there and he was fricking sold.
Was at the Spurs - Liverpool game yesterday (as well as all previous Spurs home games)
It was absolutely fantastic, Wembley felt like home finally. The Pool fans were well up for it (for about 4 minutes before Kane pied them off)
Hearing 75k yids belt out "hes one of our own" was magic.
10/10 would Lovren again.

By Francis Go To PostI still haven't a clue why Klopp decided it was VVD or nothing. Extremely shortsighted. Plus, Sakho was right there and he was fricking sold.Have to wonder if someone within the club was feeding him info that the VVD deal was still going to happen, right into the last week of the transfer window. Its the only way anyone could even begin to justify his error there.
Assuming that's not the case though (and there's nothing to suggest it is), its a monumental fuck-up
Especially added to the supposed solution to our CM problem being tied up in a way that makes him no use to us whatsoever this season. However it happened, we ended up neglecting 2 of the 3 problem positions that play a huge role in the entire spine letting us down endlessly.
I'd deluded myself into thinking that it wasn't really necessary to replace Mignolet, but that's been proven to be an error as well.
I blame Mourinho for everything so allow me to continue
How stupid does going to Anfield for a 0-0 look now?
Just a week later they prove how shit their defence is and we lose all our momentum with two shitty performances within 3 days.
Good work.

Except for the fact that we'd have put 3 on a plate for you if you'd asked.
By Vivalapizza Go To PostI blame Mourinho for everything so allow me to continueAgainst United at Annfield, Pool ALWAYS turn up. Any attempt at an all out attack would have resulted in the fastest counters and a non stop assault on our goal.

They were away to an on form spurs who are actually better than United.
By Bold 2 in One Go To PostAgainst United at Annfield, Pool ALWAYS turn up. Any attempt at an all out attack would have resulted in the fastest counters and a non stop assault on our goal.We hadn't beaten you in the last 3 attempts at Anfield before this season iirc. Van Gaal beat us both times I think, and we drew 0-0 last season.

Plus we're worse now than we were then, and you're miles better than you were then.
At the time I thought I was okay with it, point at Anfield and everything. But then you look at how easily they were exposed yesterday and in almost every single game and I wish we'd just fucking gone for it.
It'a not like Liverpool only need one CB either, surely they could have signed an Ake/Wimmer/Zouma level player from somewhere to at least take Klavan's spot. As for the goalkeeper there are guys like Tom Heaton who would cost £10m and be an immediate and obvious upgrade.
There is something very strange about the way they target players, it seems that their moneyball people don't like the idea of buying players that their computers don't rate as £50m players.

Don't want a keeper like Heaton in the slightest, he'd cost more than £10m from a PL team as well. Get somebody who has proved they can do more than stop shots, otherwise we could well just end up with another Mignolet.

Prediction: It'll be between Asensio, Mbappe and Dembele. Don't think Neymar will make it. Their ascent is so fast they will line up with Ronaldo/Messi's decline and Neymar won't find a year in-between where he can take it.
Watching United at the moment is making me genuinely unhappy, both in playstyle and results, it was making me unhappy during the 4-0's aswell as the lead up to those last few minutes was turgid, methinks I shall take a break from it for a little while, maybe til the new year.
Can easily see Mbappe being a better player than Neymar within 3 years or so. He's a freak.
Then again Neymar has the post-Ronaldo marketing vacuum on lock, which will help him.

Wait until 2018/19 when we have Pochettino o bb
Neygod has id say a 74% chance of winning the first balloon after messi/ronaldo die.

Begovic and Akè wouldn't have been terrible choices for Klopp. Slightly under £30m is what Bournemouth paid.

Mbappe is, IMO, already better than Neymar. His combo of pace, strength and technique is something Neymar will never have.

Agree with the first part but Sakho is a lost cause. He is a fine defender when he isn’t being a liability but he’s got the same kind of “20 minutes of madness” that Lovren displayed at Spurs.
I don’t think Lovren is a bad CB, I think we make CB’s bad at Liverpool. Its a very similar situation to when Arsenal have an off-day, it just becomes far too easy to get past the midfield and take defenders on 1v1. Simply bringing in a new center back won’t change the broader issue. We need to press more intelligently and we need our midfielders to manage the game better, moment to moment.

Without knowing that Lovren was going to fall off a cliff I'd say it would be foolish to just fill a spot with another average defender.

Thought it was obvious from my post, Im a Spurs fan.
Lived through the dark ages of the 90's and 00's, Poch is a miracle worker.
Glad to be here, I hope I can bring all these ManU fans down a peg or 2 next week also.
I think Henderson's reinvention as deepest midfielder isn't really going to work and Pool need a defensive specialist

Nahh I begrudge Spurs nothing. Building a team the right way and constantly improving through coaching. Much to be admired.

Agreed. He’s a good passer, a hard worker, great technique, lots I love about Henderson but he’s never, ever behind the ball when we need him to be.
“Caution” simply isn’t in our vocabulary at Liverpool. Our best defender is probably Firmino lol

I agree. And he is still so young. Two more years of improvement and Neymar looks like yesterday's news.
However, the marketing brand of Neymar is of course far ahead of the others. So I guess that could swing the vote back in his favour.
