New Giants coach Pat Shurmur said he thinks Eli Manning has "years left" and is looking forward to working with the 37-year-old.Might be window dressing, but it's an interesting take considering most Giants fans like me thought Eli would get 2018 but might be replaced midseason. Basically if the Giants line was good not only could he QB effectively, the Giants would be bigtime NFC contenders. Instead they're one of the 5 worst lines in football so... yeah.
This coincides with what GM Dave Gettleman said earlier in the week. Fired coach Ben McAdoo seemed to be pushing Manning out the door late in the season, but the fans revolted and McAdoo was fired a couple weeks later. The new regime seems to be all in on Manning for 2018 at the very least. Manning surely isn't the worst of the Giants' problems, but he's no longer a top-end quarterback in this league. Maybe an overhauled offensive line can keep Manning upright, give him time, and allow Manning to keep going another 2-3 years.
By Kibner Go To PostI'm not sure if Cousins and Smith are better by a large enough margin to make a real difference.... IT'S BLAKE BORTLES! If Case Keenum is a large enough difference, Smith/Cousins is the distance from the Earth to the Moon.

A Protest Divided
"The movement started by Colin Kaepernick endures, but its supporters are more fragmented than ever. This is the inside story of how infighting splintered a group of players once unified in its pursuit of a cause bigger than themselves."
by ESPN: The Magazine's Howard Bryant
This is a really, really good read of the fracturing in the Players' Union and rift between factions between the supposed "Uncle Toms" and the hardliners.

holy fuck
Redskins acquired QB Alex Smith from the Chiefs in exchange for undisclosed compensation.I am legit stunned. Never saw this happening via trade since NFL trades don't happen much.
Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Chiefs are getting back "picks and a player." No trades can become official until the first day of the new league year on March 14, but the trade is agreed upon, saving the Chiefs $17 million under the salary cap. The blockbuster trade will ensure Kirk Cousins hits free agency, where he'll likely become the NFL's highest-paid player. It also locks in Patrick Mahomes as the Chiefs' 2018 starting quarterback. In 2017, Smith set career highs in touchdown-to-interception ratio (26:5) and yards per attempt (8.0). He turns 34 in May, so a quarterback will stay in play for the Redskins at the No. 13 overall pick.
Redskins signed QB Alex Smith to a four-year extension through 2022.
As part of the agreement on the trade to get Smith to D.C., the Skins are giving Smith some long-term security, as he had just one year left on his contract through 2018. He's now under contract through his age-38 season. It very well may be his last contract. The Redskins didn't seem to have a prayer to re-sign free agent Kirk Cousins after burning so many bridges with their "franchise" quarterback. Acquiring Smith and paying him less was the next best thing.
Following Tuesday night's trade of Alex Smith, second-year QB Patrick Mahomes is fully expected to enter 2018 as the Chiefs' starter.
The Chiefs and Redskins agreed to a deal that will send Smith to D.C. when the new league year opens March 14. Mahomes started the Chiefs' meaningless Week 17 game against the Broncos, but it was anything but meaningless in the grand scheme of things, as K.C. got a look at the future. And it appears bright. Mahomes went 22-of-35 for 284 yards with a supporting cast of backups. Mahomes can make any throw on the field and should open things up even more with Tyreek Hill deep. Smith at times was averse to taking chances downfield, though he did open up more in a career 2017 season. Mahomes will certainly have his growing pains, but he has scintillating upside. Dual-threat Mahomes is a dark horse fantasy QB1 as soon as 2018.
After the Redskins' acquisition of Alex Smith on Tuesday night, free agent Kirk Cousins is fully expected to hit the open market when the new league year opens March 14.Jags need to get him, Smith off the market hurt them bigtime. It'd now be him or Keenum.
Washington wasn't going to use the franchise tag on Cousins for the third straight year and be on the hook for a guaranteed $34 million, and signs had begun to point to Cousins leaving D.C. with no interest in a long-term deal from his side of things. Thus, the trade for Smith. Cousins' market figures to be absolutely robust as the best free agent quarterback to hit the open market in years. Expect plenty of teams to be in the running, including the Jets, Cardinals, Jaguars, Browns, Bills, Broncos, Vikings, and whoever else. It's likely Cousins will reset the quarterback market as the highest-paid player at the position when all is said and done.

Chiefs acquired CB Kendall Fuller and a 2018 third-round pick from the Redskins in exchange for QB Alex Smith. Also, Jets expected to go all in for Kirk Cousins now.
A 2016 third-rounder, Fuller struggled as a rookie off a 2015 knee injury. But this past season, as the Redskins' No. 1 slot corner, Fuller appeared in all 16 games and graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 5 cover corner out of 121 qualifiers. The Chiefs really struggled on the back end of the defense in 2017, so Fuller will be a welcomed addition and should slide right into slot duties in K.C.
The Jets have $73 million in salary-cap room, the fourth-highest amount in the league, according to overthecap.com. Other teams that might jump into the Cousins sweepstakes are the Cleveland Browns ($110 million), Buffalo Bills ($29 million), Denver Broncos ($29 million), Jacksonville Jaguars ($17 million) and Arizona Cardinals ($9 million).
The Jets also could make themselves more attractive to Cousins by promoting Jeremy Bates to offensive coordinator, which is expected to happen. Bates is a disciple of Mike Shanahan, who drafted Cousins and coached him in 2012-2013. On Tuesday, about seven hours before word of the trade leaked, Cousins spoke glowingly of Bates, who likely would install the Shanahan offense.

Browns confirmed to have made a trade offer to Washington for Cousins but it was turned down. Cleveland just keeps losing.
Cousin's could fuck the top half of the draft all up. I don't know where the top five QBs are ranked - every GM is sure to have their own preference, but the Browns, Jets and Vikings have tons of cap space to take a hit.
None of the QBs seem like first year guys to me either. Maybe you throw Mayfield out there and let him take his licks. He seems the type who responds to a direct challenge, but he'll obviously still struggle or get himself killed.

Lamar Jackson's stock also seems to be dropping.

Giants looking like champs right now: Browns might take Saquon Barkley #1 overall and that would give the G-Men any QB they wanted. They could legit trade down to the Browns at #4 and get either Allen or Darnold with future picks..
EDIT: HERE WE GO
Speaking at the Super Bowl on Wednesday, Broncos OLB Von Miller said, "We need Kirk [Cousins]. I would like to have Kirk."THIRST FOR KIRK 2018
"Kirk could take us over the edge," Miller continued. The Broncos currently sit in the middle of the pack in 2018 cap space at just over $26 million, but space can be created rather easily in the NFL. GM John Elway is going to do everything in his power to get at least one new quarterback in the building after the Broncos have missed the playoffs two consecutive seasons with Trevor Siemian. Expect Denver to be right there with the Jets and others in pursuit of Cousins.
I don't know if the Broncos can win a bidding war for Kirk. Kirk would need to take less. I'd probably take less to play with the Broncos over the Jets, but we'll see.
Yeah it's starting to get out that Falcons have had enough of the NFL's shit towards them. More stories are coming.
That bus shit wasn't right though... Falcons need to go villain and stunt on fools but Sarkisian is an idiot and Matt Ryan isn't talented enough to go rogue. Juilo Jones could be a perfect villain but even he's too... nice.
Ozzie Newsome is retiring as Ravens GM after the 2018 season. His number #2, Eric Decosta will then take over.
All this means is we're definitely drafting Ridley at 16 if he's available which sucks.
Would rather not risk another first round pick on a wide receiver. Take one of the OT or a defender - there's plenty to choose from. They can't afford to miss on a high pick.

Boston and Philly are lovely cities, but this is an accurate depiction of the average white fan base of each club. They're just the worst.
Y’all ready for history? We’re getting our revenge. This win will be dedicated to T.O in honor of his reply to Jason Whitlock
Apparently the MVP doesn't win the Superbowl. I choose Brady and the Patriots to reverse that trend. I pick them and until proven otherwise.
I hate both teams but will watch the Superbowl. BTW I didn;t make a Superbowl thread because I doubt it would be more than 10 pages.
EDIT: Also if Philly actually wins I AM NOT RISKING MY LIFE TO GO TO WORK TOMORROW. FUCK THAT I'M STAYING HOME BECAUSE THE RIOTING WILL BE LEGENDARY.
