ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Browns attempted to trade for Bengals No. 2 QB A.J. McCarron before Tuesday's deadline. What the fuck are the Browns doing? Why would you attempt to trade for AJ fucking McCarron of all people?
Per Schefter, a deal was "close," but couldn't be finalized. It's the first we've heard of McCarron since August, where his name was a mainstay in trade rumors. The Browns are casting a wide net at quarterback, but continue to lack decisiveness as they search for an answer under center. McCarron is headed for restricted free agency next offseason.
By The Frankman Go To PostBenjamin is a FA and they are higher on Funchess than Benjamin, who has had weight issues. Sheperd has looked ok also and Samuel is in the mix.
They could have picked up the fifth year and a 3rd rounder doesn't help them this year. Seems like Carolina is doing a mini rebuild.
By Jeff-DSA Go To PostI'm sad to see Jay Ajayi go. He was such a fun player to watch and gave it his all no matter what the score or the team's record was. But I have to be honest, the Dolphins are real close to spiraling down to bottom 5 territory and I'm happy he gets a shot to go play with a solid contender. If they move Jarvis Landry though, that's going to legit piss me off. I'm already hearing that they are ready to wash their hands of Suh after this year.please, jeff. join me on the TANK TRAIN
I guess you might as well do your rebuilding while Brady is still around. Try to get good 2-3 seasons from now, because you're not winning the AFC East in the short term.
Surprised by the Benjamin deal. Before the year they were definitely sellers, but they've done so well they switched to buyers. Looks like a good move on paper.
By Stormm Go To PostSurprised by the Benjamin deal. Before the year they were definitely sellers, but they've done so well they switched to buyers. Looks like a good move on paper.Unlike Jerry Reese and the Giants, the Bills correctly identified their biggest weakness and fixed it by bringing in a Sammy Watkins replacement in Benjamin to give mad bomber Tyrod Taylor a deep threat. Dude has a cannon but has to throw short routes to Zay Jones. Look what Deonte Thompson did with Tyrod Taylor, Benjamin and him are going to put up numbers.

It's true that Cam's best statistical seasons (2013, 2015) have come without KB. But relationship-wise, they were pretty tight and from the social media reactions of the players that I've seen, the team itself is not a fan of this move. I would have been ok with the move if we had re-signed Ginn, but without KB, Ginn, or Olsen, there's just no real offensive threat besides Cam for which a defense needs to gameplan. I'm not sure a receiving corps of Funch/Samuel/Shepard/Dickson is scaring even the Browns secondary.
By DY_nasty Go To PostBenjamin's fat ass can go
We'll take it. 3rd is a wash because we'll get a conditional back if we cut the guy Benjamin just made expendable.
Good trade for both teams.
Seahawks CB Jeremy Lane has failed his physical, and is no longer part of the team's Duane Brown trade with the Texans.oops.
Lane has been dealing with a groin injury, and hasn't played since Week 4. With Lane's failed physical, the new terms of the trade are: Brown and a 2018 fifth-rounder to the Seahawks, a 2018 third-rounder and 2019 second-rounder to the Texans. Lane will return to No. 4 duties for the Seahawks once/if he gets healthy.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Browns believed they completed their acquisition of Bengals QB A.J. McCarron before Tuesday's deadline, but that the league would not allow it to go through.JESUS...
Schefter reports the Browns notified the NFL of the deal "moments too late," and that the league would not budge. ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi went as far as to report that the Browns were "celebrating" McCarron's acquisition and "forgot to call in the deal before the deadline." That seems a bit hard to believe, though we really want to. The Cincinnati Enquirer reports the Browns were ready to part with second- and third-round picks. Coach Hue Jackson was McCarron's coordinator his first two years in the league. The Browns have lost control of their quarterback narrative, letting their rivals and media paint them as hapless in their pursuit of an answer under center.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports there was a "disconnect" between the Browns' front office and coaching staff regarding Bengals QB A.J. McCarron.
Despite the disconnect, the Browns were ready to surrender second- and third-round picks for McCarron's services on Tuesday. The league office confirmed the deal was not confirmed because of a "paperwork issue." Truly unbelievable. The "disconnect" almost certainly stemmed from McCarron's ex-OC Hue Jackson overvaluing him in the eyes of the Browns' front office. Sashi Brown and Paul DePodesta are probably breathing a sigh of relief, while Jackson is likely fuming. The Browns' disastrous 1-23 record on Jackson's watch can hardly be laid at his feet, but it's seeming increasingly likely he won't be around to finish the (never-ending) rebuild.

Patriots signed QB Brian Hoyer, formerly of the 49ers, to a three-year contract.Knew it. Interesting Green Bay looked at Hoyer after stating any QB would need a long period to grasp the system, which is why Colin Kaepernick wasn't an option.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Hoyer was also being courted by the Packers. He instead chooses to go back to New England where it all began as an UDFA out of Michigan State. Hoyer will slide in as Tom Brady's backup, replacing Jimmy Garoppolo, who was traded to the Niners on Monday.
Maybe the browns used a raven...that's my double entendre for the year.
Hoyer move was pretty inevitable since their other option was...no one. Made sense for both sides. Though it was unlikely, wondering who NE would have turned to if Hoyer signed with someone else.

The mystery continues.
By domino Go To Postnot sure why they signed a backup at all. if brady goes down just forfeit and come back next year.At this point, pretty much. But I would have had a little bit of hope if Brady went down with Jimmy as the backup.
Profootballtalk.com reports Browns co-owner Dee Haslam went "nuclear" on the team's front office after it nixed Tuesday's failed A.J. McCarron trade.*sigh*
Based on a collection of national and local reports on the topic, it appears as if Browns ownership has taken the side of Hue Jackson over the front office. Jackson spent time with McCarron in Cincinnati and was the driving force behind Tuesday's trade talks. Multiple reports also indicate the front office – known to be at odds with Jackson – was the driving force behind the trade not going through. Ownership will ultimately decide the front office's fate. At present, it's not looking good for Sashi Brown, Paul DePodesta, and company. Jackson appears to have won the power struggle, for better or (more likely) worse.
So it wasn't a mistake, it was an inter-office power struggle. Browns are stuck in a loop that is hard to get out off, Hue seems like a decent coach, but it's going to take someone special to get them out of their rut, both a GM and coach. The problem is that person(s) would probably rather go somewhere else as their first choice.
NFL Network's Jane Slater confirms Alfred Morris will start against the Chiefs in Week 9.For you fantasy nuts.
As expected. Morris will get the first crack at replacing Ezekiel Elliott, who is set to begin a six-game suspension for violating the league's code of conduct. Rod Smith is expected to handle backup reps behind Morris with Darren McFadden operating third on the Cowboys' depth chart. Morris is a complete zero in the passing game but should still see enough volume to warrant RB2 usage in fantasy.
I'm sorry, I posted it in the Fantasy thread.
but there is this Smokey:
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Texans fear Deshaun Watson suffered a torn ACL in Thursday's practice.
If you're in disbelief, so are we. Just stunning, awful news. Per Rapsheet, it was a non-contact injury. Watson is undergoing an MRI to confirm the news. Perhaps we'll get a miracle, but Watson can safely be considered out for Week 9, meaning Tom Savage will be under center for the Texans in what would have been a dream matchup for Watson against the Colts. Aaron Wilson reports Watson will be ready for the start of the 2018 season. Even in a year riddled with superstar injuries — Andrew Luck, David Johnson, Odell Beckham, J.J. Watt and Aaron Rodgers, to name a few — this is the biggest blow yet. Watson is the NFL's brightest quarterback prospect in years. His loss is a season-ruining event for the Texans, and at least for Week 9, forces Tom Savage under center. Savage arguably isn't good enough to even be on a 53-man roster, let alone start NFL games. The Texans will need to explore other solutions.
but there is this Smokey:
Howard Balzer reports Texans owner Bob McNair has "signed off" on working out Colin Kaepernick following Deshaun Waton's season-ending knee injury.
Although probably an unknown name to many Rotoworld readers, Balzer has long been plugged into NFL circles. Ignoring all the politics — literal and figurative — Kaepernick would be a no-brainer addition for the Texans. Tom Savage arguably isn't good enough to even be on a 53-man roster. He plays the game of football at a glacial pace. There's no question Kap's play was in steady decline for the 49ers, but he'd also give the Texans an infinitely better shot at winning than Savage. Considering what a flashpoint Kap has become, it's not as simple as just football, but on paper, it would make the Texans considerably better, and keep their playoff hopes alive in the soft AFC South.
Savage has been the league for 4 years and the Astros WON A WORLD SERIES before this man has thrown a TD

What an ABSOLUTE dick move
NFL insider Howard Balzer was apparently joking when he "reported" the Texans were willing to work out free agent Colin Kaepernick.
We really wish we had not passed this one along, but there was zero reason to believe a professional NFL lifer like Balzer was "joking," especially considering the straightforward tone of his tweet. We have sourced Balzer in the past, but will not do so going forward. Kap was and is a free agent who seems nowhere close to getting an NFL workout. His collusion lawsuit against the NFL is still moving forward.
Wow, terrible to hear about Watson. He definitely seems like the real deal. Even though he'll be back next year, I'm sure he it will take most of the year for him to really round back into form (at least from the full mobility/explosiveness perspective he brings).

Nothing would make me happier than to see Kaepernick win his collusion case against the NFL and take them for a ton of money. Hell, I would have been happy to see him sign with the Texans and win the Super Bowl with them even at the expense of my Bills making the playoffs for the first time in an eternity. That's how much I think this sucks.

I need a replacement owner for my Fantasy foot league. Details here
the rest of the season should be purely for evaluation.
we have no qb
we have no defense, and our best defenders are out
we have no 1st round pick because of fleecing the browns, so tanking wouldn't help.

He got injured pretty late in the season. There's a good punt on half of your season next year unless your FO actually tries to find a suitable replacement.
