Maybe DCing but just read this in German media.
Liverpool tried to sign Müller as Coutinho replacement and offered 100M ECU. Müller didn't want to leave though.

By FlutterPuffs Go To PostYeah, he probably gave his life to football, and it worked out well.
Jackie Chan was also illiterate. He had someone verbally tell him the lines before he acts it out in the scenes of his movies. Jet Li was too.
While it would be plausible for the both of them, as they both grew up in poverty, I think the Jet Li rumour was debunked and was simply based on a joke/misunderstanding. Jackie Chan apparently is though.
In general, I wouldn't be surprised if a number of footballers score quite low on literacy, as the result of an upbringing in poverty or at least absent significant education and likely an obsessive focus on their athletic pursuits. By the time they get the opportunity to learn to read it is doubtlessly both an embarrassing process and one many might deem largely unnecessary considering the wages some of them are on. One of the major issues surrounding adult illiteracy is the stigma associated with it, it's hardly surprising that footballers who are functional illiterates would choose to hide that fact. I mean, my initial reaction to Tevez being illiterate is amusement, but that makes me part of the problem.
Obviously, it doesn't affect their ability to make a living, but I do think it's worrisome in terms of making them easy targets for exploitation by others. I'm sure there are dubious agents and other middlemen out there who would cheer to find out that their clients are illiterate, especially if they're from communities where the people they can trust to have their best interests at heart probably also have reduced proficiency in reading. They end up having to place all their faith in agents who then get free rein to manipulate their clients as they wish, and who may ultimately not give much of a shit about them beyond their earning potential.
I'm not certain it's an endemic problem in football, but given the level of corruption found pretty much everywhere else in the sport, I'd say it's probable. It would be nice if there was more of an onus placed on clubs to ensure that their players are more thoroughly educated, but I can't imagine it's something that's high on the agenda, particularly when it comes to players who are already adults. It seems to be a part of the larger problem of the dehumanization of athletes by some elements in sport, a problem that is largely brushed over with the justification that they are so well paid that they deserve no sympathy and that it somehow isn't a tragedy that they're often treated purely like commodities.
Ugh, that ended up long, and I imagine no one really gives a shit since it's hardly the biggest problem in the world, but eh. I just think football should and could be better than it is at ensuring the players are individuals who can fully function in society. Might end up with fewer shit pundits that way.
I'm sure Inky is fine. I know that if I was affected in some way by a natural disaster, my first reaction wouldn't be to hop back into an internet forum.
On a completely different topic: the nominations for the World XI have some truly pigshit names in there. Alves, Ozil, Pepe, Matic, Coutinho. Fucking hell.

It's not all bad news Liverpool got knocked out of the League Cup so early, it means now they can concentrate on qualifying for the Europa Cup next year.

It's true, no one does. He's wonderfully consistent to a good level, but no one particularly wants to watch him play football.

By Laboured Go To PostIt's true, no one does. In other Chelsea news, this Ethan Ampadu lad who just turned 17 is going to be in the squad vs. Forrest.

He's not a high profile player, and isn't that good for Chelsea?

"Azpilicueta is the kind of player I like a lot. I think a team with 11 Azpilicuetas would probably win the competition (Champions League) because football is not just about pure talent".
Chrono Trigger and Majora's Mask arrived in the post. Trying to justify this 3DS purchase 6 years on 😐. Still need to finish BOTW mind.

think the switch line up looks pretty incredible for its first year.
I will open mine one day.
Just noticed Liverpool play at Leicester again on Saturday in the late kickoff. I'm sure they'll smash them this time.

Probably should finish that as well and the leyton games and then exchange it for a Switch.

Buffom is a bum. Six of those were against him.
The cool thing about the Baggio goal is that it is a young Pirlo with the assist.
Ronaldo makes his La Liga debut today, that red card probably cost us the 4 points we've dropped to date.

By Vivalapizza Go To PostThe next Classico is going to have a real juicy political backdrop to itMajority of Catalans don't even want a referendum, they themselves say it's illegal and doesn't hold any merit, as in non-binding.
From what I do know it's the left-wing groups who do not want to separate while the right wing groups have been pushing for an independence.
Goes without saying that obviously someone who lives in Barcelona/Spain would have a better knowledge of this than I would but that's what I've been hearing.
