Baylor D.

Agreed, we might have Jerrod Heard playing some QB though who knows.

Hopefully not. Nobody wants to see ND around sniffing the top 4. But seriously, if they get through NC State and Miami, I guess they have to be in the mix to the point of bumping out a conference in one of those slots.

But seriously, if they get through NC State and Miami, I guess they have to be in the mix to the point of bumping out a conference in one of those slots.I don't see ND jumping a one loss conference champion unless they're from the Pac-12. Committee has shown that they put a lot of stock in conference championships when all things are equal.
One of these days, ND (football program) is going to have to be in a conference. Especially if they want to be in the CFP.
On a related note, Mike Gundy and Bret Bielema make the same salary.
Really looking forward to another offseason of Gundy moving rumors. They'd be smart to go after him.
You think that's bad? The shameless begging from Nebraska fans are something else in relation to Scott Frost. I've never seen a more pathetic fanbase drop to their knees so quickly.
By Andodalf Go To PostHow do you guys feel about ND? are they for real playoff contenders? We're not. The offense isn't built to hang points on the board or chase games.
Excellent run game, yes, and three of the linemen will go in the first two rounds of the draft, but Wimbush is a run first QB with suspect accuracy on clear passing downs.
Everything is based around the run game and keeping the defense close to the line worried about Josh Adams or a read option (which they should actually call more) and then passing quickly on a isolated routes.
The WRs are also iffy. St. Brown should be the clear #1 and scorching the secondaries they've played so far. He's talented and probably wanted to have a big year so he could leave early for the NFL. That might still happen but he hasn't put up numbers or had a stand out game all season. I believe he's averaging a drop per as well. This isn't entirely his fault (he does lead the team in yards, not even 300, and TDs 3) because Wimbush is a first year QB and is built to run first.
On the positive side, the defense has been surprisingly good. Pass rush has been an issue for years. The two Hayes on the ends, Tillery and the LB play of Morgan and Coney have been the biggest single season improvement during Kelly's entire tenure. None of these guys are All Americans, but they're good players and will get drafted.
I don't know if they're going beat NC State Saturday; I don't think they'll win out given the remaining games on the schedule; but I know in my heart this isn't one of the four best sides in the nation. They're good, and fun to watch, but would probably get embarrassed in a playoff game.
By StarFireMk4 Go To PostOne of these days, ND (football program) is going to have to be in a conference. Especially if they want to be in the CFP.That will never happen. They make too much money off their TV deal and by controlling their open schedule to deal with conference boards. This is still business and money is the most important thing.
By KingGondo Go To PostUCF is such a weird program.
How did they get back to being good so quickly?
Are they good or are they just playing in the AAC?
By KingGondo Go To PostUCF is such a weird program.2015 was an outlier. Yeah they went winless, but it was more due to a massive leadership void, injuries, and NFL/graduation departures. GOL was checked out after the 2013 season and wanted to retire. 2014 we still won our conference, though. He was convinced to stay by the administration. As part of that, he wanted to elevate our OL coach and later offensive coordinator to head coach. This wasn't a popular thing. And the OC was not ready to lead a program. GOL also became part-time AD, to relatively bad results. 2015 was a perfect storm of a massive shit cloud. Frost didn't walk into a program that had a massive talent/recruiting issue. He walked into one that needed a good leader. The foundation was there.
How did they get back to being good so quickly?
UCF has gone bowling overall now 9 times in the last 13 years. So while a low bar, the team in general has not been bad.

If they finish out with 1 loss they'll Def get in.

Dunno how that would have fared. Louisville probably would have been better though.

Yes, Louisville and Pitt or Cincy. Much better options that what we are looking at now.

I also enjoyed those years since I lived in Alabama, and found them obnoxious.
I'm homesick now, and since the football team is the only reason why the state makes the news for POSITIVE reasons, well, I enjoy watching the succeed.
