I still think we're really good but we played an awful first half (and first couple drives of the second half) and we had to play perfectly to make the comeback once we got down 20. Credit to TCU.
Comparing this season's 3-game OOC schedule to last season, our defense has given up 372 fewer yards and 51 fewer points, and our turnover margin has gone from 0 to +7. Would look even better if we hadn't gone full go-prevent-and-run-the-clock mode for the last quarter against Houston and gave them an extra 14 points and 149 yards.
Offense has been a bit sluggish at times for sure, but we're 3-0 right now and last year's team would probably be 1-2, and the improved defensive play is a huge part of that.

Can I admit I'm kinda worried about next week?
It would be very on brand for OSU to lose to Tech for the first time in ages when I finally make my way to Lubbock.

Sure. Two seasons ago was closer than the 70-53 score indicates and last season was decided on a missed extra point.
That 70-53 game is exactly the kind of embarrassment that I hope doesn't happen this season; losing by that score wasn't so bad in and of itself, it was just the way it happened (a fairly common occurrence across our schedule the last couple of seasons). We were actually winning in the 4th quarter but then gave up 3 consecutive drives that totaled 233 yards and 21 points on only 7 plays. We threw a pick in the middle of it, then our two drives right after were a fumble and a pick 6. It's like we weren't even trying to make you work for it. I'd rather lose by a legitimate 30 than see that kind of shit-show again.
Week 5:
College football is overrated. TCU isn't that good, the Big 12 is a bad conference, whatever man. I'm not that invested in it anyways.
Anyone who came into this thread expecting some Gondo schadenfreude will be sadly disappointed, as I actually don't care at all and I am also not mad.
Thursday Game of Note:
Texas @ Iowa State
Friday Games of Note:
#14 Miami @ Duke
#5 USC @ #16 Washington State
Saturday:
Morning Games of Note:
UNC @ Georgia Tech
... and that's all I got.
Afternoon Games of Note:
Indiana @ #4 Penn State
#7 Georgia @ Tennessee
#24 Mississippi State @ #13 Auburn
Evening Games of Note:
#2 Clemson @ #12 Virginia Tech
#15 Oklahoma State @ Texas Tech
Mildly Intriguing Pac-12 After Dark Game of the Week:
Cal @ Oregon

As I do the pick 'em I find myself wondering why Stanford is so heavily favored over Arizona State. Three score favorite seems overly heavy.
Oklahoma State is only a 10.5 point favorite in our game, and that's a game with a team that was top 6 a week ago versus one that didn't make a bowl game last season.

Just seen the USC score. Very nice. I like.
Georgia / Tenn
OSU / TX Tech
Clemson / VA Tech

Especially since they won't even think about giving it to Lamar again.
Second rainy gameday of the season in Lubbock. Wonder if that's ever happened before. Maybe we'll see the fox again!
Met up with Gondo in person. He's clearly a fine upstanding citizen and as usual this post is the exact same here as it is on GAF with no difference at all.

i had checked the score a few minutes ago since a Pelican beat writer who is also a UT fan posted this image:
Just saw a quick preview for the UCF v Memphis game that said McKenzie Milton is UCF's first player from Hawaii. That was it. No other stats or anything.

By DY_nasty Go To PostI'm here for this.
The goal was 3-1, and we came in 3-0, so this was like a free spin. Kept it close in a game we would have lost by 30+ last season because our defense can now get some stops and turnovers and nobody quit.
Good game Monroeski! Nice to meet you.
I was impressed by the Tech crowd and by the defense's apparent improvement. Maybe Kliff will stick around after all?
Glad we have a bye next week so we can tighten some things up before the meat of our schedule begins.

I'm cackling madly at every bad LSU loss. I'm loving this shit. Talk Radio Monday is going to be fantastic!

Apparently all over twitter that there is a big group of Baylor players leaving the team. Up to 7 or 8 players, including a few in their 2-deep, though some are gone now and others are supposedly waiting until the end of the season.
Baylor was looking surprisingly salty against OU and KSU.
I'll be disappointed if we don't really smack them at Homecoming in a couple of weeks, especially with these recent defections.

By KingGondo Go To PostBaylor was looking surprisingly salty against OU and KSU.I'm kind of thinking of them as a middling G5 team now. The big difference in a lot of G5 teams and a lot of P5 teams isn't the starters, it's the depth; Baylor likely still has starters that can get things done, but as the game drags on and the subs have to come in the better teams will pull away.
It's what happens every year all over the country when a lower tier team is keeping it close against a higher tier team at halftime but then loses by 3 or 4 scores. It's what happened with Baylor against OU two games ago.
Sometimes those starters are enough to get the lower tier a win, though, and that could certainly happen with Baylor at some point this season. Solid QB and still some Briles recruited talent all over the 2-deep, plus they're getting some identity to the offense that they didn't have early. I don't think the KSU game was ever really in doubt but Baylor did manage two 70+ yard touchdown plays late.
I know Butch Jones gets a lot of crap, but him leaving Cincinnati for Tennessee is what opened the door for Tuberville to leave Texas Tech, and for that I will be forever grateful.
I'll probably be without internet for most of the weekend. I know you're all heartbroken to be deprived of my commentary on our game against Kansas.

😂 Sooners. They're going to kill Texas now.
