The Gruden shit this year is like 100000000x worse than usual. My damn wife even said she heard he was going to be our coach. Those people are gonna be sad as hell when the school trots out some cheap ass gotta google it to figure out who he is hire.
Would Gruden even be a slam dunk? He hasn't coached in forever.
Do you have any favorites for the job?
We should create a power ranking of the most difficult jobs in CFB because of unrealistic fan expectations.
I nominate:
Nebraska
Tennessee
Georgia
Texas
Texas A&M
LSU
Arkansas

I would say it is a tie between Nebraska and Tennessee. Though, between the two, Tennessee is my pick. Mainly because of the fanbase, and the conference they play in. (Seriously, good luck getting a coach that can recruit and play against Saban)
No he wouldn't be a slam dunk. Dude has coached as many college games as I have and hasn't coached a game at any level in almost a decade. He could be a complete bust. But I do think it is possible he could be awesome. Even if he is great as a college coach I definitely think there would be some hiccups with having someone that has never coached/recruited in college. Doesn't really matter though cause he isn't going to be our coach. I do think he is going back to coaching this year just back to the NFL.
As far as real options I would be ok with: I think the big name the school should be trying to land is Patterson. If not him then Mullen, Pirate King, Taggart. If they pass then I guess Campbell or Norvell. If they say no shut the program done and become a basketball school.
Also Ole Miss is #1 on unrealistic Fan expectations. Always will be.
I think Nebrasaka, Tennessee, and Texas just want competent coaching. The UT's ran off coaches that were clearly past their prime and doing a lot of losing and unable to catch up to a changing game. None of them have fired anyone still winning a lot like Georgia or LSU.
As far as Tennessee fans go I guess we have do have expectations but you have to remember we play the following schools every year: Vandy, Kentucky, South Carolina, Missouri, and 3 nonconference cupcakes. So yeah you play Bama and Florida every year but and losing to them consistently you should still be winning 7-8 games a year without doing anything.

By jjasper Go To PostThe Gruden shit this year is like 100000000x worse than usual.I just don't really get why it's happening again. We had to put up with this every year for a while after he left coaching but I thought it was pretty much gone now after the last few offseasons without him getting much/any mention.

Not investing so much emotion in the fortunes of my sports teams has turned out to be a good decision

This group has basically turned into a mob at this point and have turned a coaching search that should really be debating if Gary Patterson is getable or if Taggart would be willing to come back to the south after one year, or if Mullen is ready to step up to the big boys into a Gruden or bust and it is going to lead to another shit hire.

When Texas fans are confident they're going to get Saban you just kind of laugh. With Tennessee fans and Gruden the humor is definitely there but I think I'm mostly just confused.

We've certainly come a long way from when the accepted storyline was that big ol' meanie Kliff Kingsbury was mistreating poor widdle innocent Baker Mayfield for no reason at all.
Interestingly enough, NewsOK is ramming that story into the ground.
Personally, i don't like that he did it, but far worse things have happened in college football, right?

By StarFireMk4 Go To PostMiami should not be 2.Not any lower than 3 though right? There is a game in 2 weeks that renders this completely useless until it happens.

Right.
But if Miami beats Clemson, they are in.
By StarFireMk4 Go To PostInterestingly enough, NewsOK is ramming that story into the ground.I am really struggling to give a fuck about Mayfields on field antics. It's a competition. It's supposed to be a little testy. A little spicy.

Yeah I'm an OSU fan and I don't really care.
He's probably something of an asshole, but a lot of the best competitors are.

Our AD just let an interim coach dismiss our best player cause he posted an Instagram rant? Please shut down the program so the embrassment can end.
By jjasper Go To Posthttp://www.rockytopinsider.com/2017/11/22/jauan-jennings-blasts-vols-coaching-staff-instagram-video/That's it?
Kicking him out seems like a major overreaction, especially since his heart is in the right place. He wants to win and he's passionate.
I have no answers. What a normal school would do would be to say he is suspended indefinitely and let the next coach figure out his punishment. But Tennessee isn’t really a well functioning school so here we are.
Edit: And if there is some other reason why he is suspended the school needs to say what it is now cause right now it looks like a reaction to the video. Either way Currie has to hire a homerun now or things are gonna go real bad for him real quick as he probably just lost any sort of fan base support.

Looks like we're switching QBs today. Shimonek benched for Carter, a first year JUCO. Some rumors about it happening earlier in the week but now it's pretty much confirmed.
By KingGondo Go To PostOdds that Kliff survives at this point?I'll quote myself from an ERA post when somebody mentioned a loss would get him fired -
By MonroeskiLikely, but not as likely as you would think.
::edit::
Two things that are still unlikely but that have moved up noticeably from the "impossible" I would have called them a month ago -
1. Kingsbury gives us our first back-to-back losing seasons since '84-'85 but keeps his job
2. Mike Leach is our head coach in 2018
Apparently we have dueling $9.99s with conflicting reports over whether Kingsbury has already decided to step down in the next few days.
If we had played like this on offense all year, even if our record was the same, I wouldn't be so apathetic.
Stuff like the three incompletes and a punt on a 3-and-out that happened earlier, at least then we went down playing like ourselves, not like the garbage we put on the field in games like Iowa State where we ran up the middle three times for negative yardage down a few touchdowns.

This is the defense that our offense has been wasting all season. Things like holding our opponent to a field goal after 6+ plays within the 10 yard line has happened a fair number of times this year, when the last few years we were lucky to hold them to a field goal in 6 plays when they started on their own 20.

...and there's the pick thrown and TD given up immediately after. Exactly what I meant by that first sentence above.

Maybe not a TD yet, but we all know it's coming.

We've got a lot of walk-ons that are some of the best players we have on the field this season, and the guy that just made that pick is one of them. Parker has been a really good player for our defense all season.
Maybe saving Kingsbury's job (if he sticks around) will turn out a bad thing long term, but for now, feels pretty good to be bowl eligible.
::edit::
I am really happy for Shimonek. His play the second half of this season certainly deserved benching, but it really sucks to be benched in what could be your final college game after 11 straight starts. To have him come in late for a few drives and get the win is awesome.
By KingGondo Go To PostHoly hell Kansas is atrociousThere's been like maybe two seasons where this wasn't true.
By Monroeski Go To PostEven though our championship chance evaporated with TCU winning, I was so happy to see y'all beat Texas.

Ohio State routinely beating Michigan for most of my life is great and kind of sad at the same time.
