By Andodalf Go To PostSo what do yall think will be the best game out of this weeks top 10 matchups? I think ND will kill Miami, and Georgia roll Auburn.
ND/Miami will be the best game alongside TCU/OU.
Weather for our game tomorrow looks to be about 40 degrees and a rain/snow mix. This game could very well be a shit show.

Except for the early part of the season we've been incredibly uneven and mistake-prone. The TCU, Tech, Texas, WVU, and OU games have been lost or kept closer than they should be because of miscues on our part. We have the talent of a playoff team but the discipline of Bobby Petrino around a volleyball player.
We could easily lose even though I think the talent gap is pretty substantial.

It's so hype in Miami already and its not even noon. This game will be more lit up than the VT game.
Returning the opening kickoff for a TD is a good start.

And Kolin Hill ISN'T out for the first half. Misremembered his targetting ejection last week as being in the 2nd half.

Here's the thing. Oklahoma State played a great game and I wish I could say that it was completely earned. BUT if someone can find the receiver for them that is 10 feet tall and could catch those initial 2 pt attempts that warrented a flag then I'd love to see them. As for the final play, I remember the Packers getting fucked by the dual possession rule, but apparently it didn't apply here.
Really, I just want one fucking season where we don't have a game that feels like it's decided by the refs rather than the players on the field. It sucks that all the momentum got sucked out during those 2 pt attempts. I know the truly better team will overcome officiating errors, but when 2 teams are as close as we are, it really sucks as the team that gets fucked by the refs.
GG Gondo. I have nothing against Oklahoma State, Gundy, you, or the players. All my vitriol right now is towards the Big 12 conference and the people they think should be employed as officials.

Christ, Ohio State destroyed MSU. I went out to run some errands while it was still relatively close early.
Also, Auburn doing work.

Iowa keeping it a game for now with two pick six's but they really need to figure out an offensive plan. 14 total yards in the 3rd quarter.

Well, at least after Saturday at least we're cleanly above the "conference cellar" tier. Still standing at the door to the cellar but haven't stepped in yet.
With a 5-5 record and two games (TCU and Texas) left that we won't be favored in, though, we're still likely to have our first back-to-back losing seasons since '84-'85. Our offense has serious issues and these are arguably the best two defenses we play all year. Would need at least one regular season upset plus a bowl win to keep the streak alive.
I'm not so sure that the TCU game isn't our better chance to get bowl eligible. TCU is clearly the better team of the two, but it's a home game and we tend to play them hard (3-2 since they joined the conference, would be 4-1 if not for a miracle in 2015). We play horribly against Texas no matter how bad they've been.

I'll be pulling for you guys. Although if you win, that likely just means that we get the unprecedented privilege of losing to OU twice in the same year. According to the Bedlam Axiom (the suffering of OSU fans should be maximized whenever possible) it will happen.
Congrats on the TCU win and on keeping Kliff for another season.

By KingGondo Go To PostIs it an issue of his buyout being too much? They could probably find the money. There are some pretty big money guys still supporting him, though.
The results on the field are clearly not optimal but there's a feeling that things are still heading in the right direction. Even before the season it was said that we could be a much better team than 2016 but end up with the same record, due to the strength of the conference, and that's bearing itself out; the offense has taken a step back, but the defense is clearly better overall, and if our kicker hadn't been hurt most of the season we could very realistically be at 7 wins already. Our AD had some comments in support of him recently that seem a bit more honest than the normal "vote of confidence" type stuff. Fan support is waning, though; the home crowd versus Kansas State was awful, probably the worst in a few decades, no exaggeration.
Something else to keep in mind is that this offseason we could very likely be looking at a group of schools in the coach market that includes a bunch of money-whipping SEC schools (Tennessee, Florida, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Arkansas) plus some others like UCLA, Arizona, and Arizona State. If there's a guy out there that we think will be better than Kingsbury, how sure are we that he will fall to us?

I wonder if there's any chance of us making the playoff if we make the title game and beat OU?
Probably not.
By KingGondo Go To PostI wonder if there's any chance of us making the playoff if we make the title game and beat OU?It's not too outlandish, but I doubt it. Could depend on how much they want to only allow one team per conference, I guess. With the PAC essentially out, beating a #3 Oklahoma could conceivably get you up to that #4 spot, but would they want a 2-loss Oklahoma State in over, say, a combined 24-2 Clemson and Miami (with one of those losses being head to head)?
Probably not.
By Monroeski Go To PostThey could probably find the money. There are some pretty big money guys still supporting him, though.I think this year is a bad year to fire Kliff, but mostly because of the improvements that I'm seeing in the team. Y'all had a better running game against us than in years prior, and your defense is the best it's been since the '12 season (if my memory of that year serves me right).

You bring up a good point though about how a bunch of programs with a bit more cash to toss around are going to be looking for a coach. Pair that with the list of coaches that are hot right now, and I don't know who Tech would even be looking for. I know some of the bigger programs are looking at Campbell, but his buyout is too large for almost all of them (I'm not counting out Florida, but I think almost everyone knows being a coach in the SEC right now is a death sentence). When the season started I figured this was the make or break season for Kliff, but given how much seems to have changed at Tech and the CFB environment as a whole, it seems smarter to delay it just a little.
By domino Go To PostGators going after Chip Kelly whewIt makes sense for Florida but I don’t know it will be the best option this year for Kelly esp if UCLA opens.
Hmmm, i disagree with the CFP top 4, but, hey, it should all be sorted out in 2 or 3 weeks. Miami will not last long at 3, and we will move up hopefully.

i don't think we have the clout as a conference yet to get 2 teams in.
By domino Go To Posti don't think we have the clout as a conference yet to get 2 teams in.In the situation as described (Oklahoma being out), though, you'd have to wonder if Clemson clout would give Miami enough of a rub to get them both in if, say, Clemson only wins the championship game by 3 or in the last minute or something like that.
You would be talking about a Miami that's 12-1, with their only loss coming to the defending national champions, versus a 2-loss Oklahoma State team that only snuck in to their own CCG because TCU blew it against one of two clearly inferior opponents and whose signature win was a team they're .500 against and that started the day ranked behind both Clemson and Miami.
It would be interesting to see it go down this way if for no other reason than that it would be a year 1 test to see if everyone's Big XII CCG fears were founded. "Rematch where the lower team wins and knocks the conference out of the playoff" was one of the top complaints about it getting added.
Apparently Kenny Hill is doubtful for the TCU-Tech game.
Not sure whether this makes me more or less confident about TCU's chances.
Also: even if we make the CCG, we'll almost certainly lose to OU again. 2011 is the closest we'll ever come to true happiness.

By KingGondo Go To PostApparently Kenny Hill is doubtful for the TCU-Tech game. The subheading for the weekly meltdown this week was "The one that should’ve had TCU but their fans don’t care enough." I feel a similar vibe when trying to cruise their message boards looking for info on how much this is "real injury" versus "trying a new guy because our offense isn't good."

A number of people have said that the backup, Shawn Robinson, was the best high school QB they'd ever seen, so his talent is certainly there. Hill being relatively easily rattled was a plus for us, so we'll have to hope the same can be said for Robinson as a true freshman if he's the one that gets the nod. He runs like a deer and their top RB is out so I'm sure we'll see him a fair bit anyway.
