Pulling from Whiteside's stats this year is really not a good way to go about it.
Spo only had him playing 10 or 15 minutes to start with. He just recently (since the all star break) has gotten more minutes (30 or so now) and his numbers have exploded as a result.
18/25/4 etc.

I threw out the games in which he played less than 5 minutes. His best game came against Deandre Jordan. His worst against Cousins. His one game with any meaningful minutes vs the Wiz was mediocre.
I think he feasts on the lack of strong bigs. His best game in that set being against Deandre is interesting because that's who is most alike in skillset to himself.

Lowry is participating in shootaround with the Raps this morning. Good chance he plays tonight in Charlotte.
I dunno, I kinda want him to sit out longer. Yeah the team's playing poorly, but I'd rather he's able to go balls to the wall like always down the stretch. He was in really rough shape the last couple of weeks.

I'd actually be pretty peeved if we lost to the Sixers with how well we have been playing lately.
They should gotten a win @ OKC and that kinda scares me.
Yall play defense.
Our offense is now based off of chucking 3s and hoping Noel is hitting his broken ass jumper so he doesn't go cry in the car.

You haven't watched Whiteside much. He's got offensive repertoire from within 12-15 feet that's far above and beyond what DeAndre has or what Dwight has. He can hit jump shots, he can hit hooks, he can post up and isolate. He's far more like Bynum (although not as polished) than he is like DeAndre.
#washemplae
Whiteside sort of had those moves coming in, but I still don't trust them now even though he's refined them. I need to see it work over a longer period.
Guys like Dwight and Hibbert have had good periods of offensive play, and then fallen back. I trust it when it feels reliable.
It's also tough to judge when he's not the primary option and not the defense's primary concern.

Who is though? Bynum certainly wasn't in his time in LA. DJ isn't. Dwight has never been. Even in Orlando they just used him in PnR situations and he always bitched at his FGA? Back to the basket guys haven't been the defense's primary concern since Yao and Shaq.
Your point about Dwight constantly regressing is true. But Dwight's never really had touch. He would just power through for these ugly ass 5 foot hook shots with his body contorting most the time. Whiteside already has touch. He jumps straight up and down. He hits close range jumpers. I'm not on the Hakeem Whiteside train or anything, just saying he's far closer to Bynum than he is DJ in terms of skillset.

Noel is a center like Embiid. Both need to play close to the basket. You don't want to match up Dwight with Nerlens. It'd be great on D god awful on O.

I'll believe it when I see them do it for an extended period of time, like 4 months. The league has seen players go on runs a lot of times. They can turn into Lin / Bargs just as quickly as they can regress back to an actual roster player of value. And he's not young. People just forgot he existed. Happens when you go and play in Europe.

But we're talking about skillset here. At least I am. Bargs still has Bargs skill set. He's still a good shooter for his size. He's still a solid passer for his size. He's just a defensive atrocity and can't stay on the court.
I'm like you, I'm not on the Whiteside hype train yet. For the same reason I don't think Westbrook can sustain this production over an 82 game season even without Durant. But the skill set to me is pretty clear. Whiteside's got tools.

The Knicks passed up on Gobert to get Hardaway. Gobert would do such a great job filling in the Bynum role in the Triangle too.
By giririsssI'm mostly happy about his defense and rebounding. He's the best rebounder in the league and a damn fine rim protector. I'll be happy if he becomes mediocre offensively but his defense and rebounding remain. By psychintellectAnd he's been pretty awesome in 2015. One more month to go?
To me it will be about how he does it next year, in the next season. I don't really think any team in the league is really pouring any attention /resources on the heat and re-scouting their roster to account for him.
The playoffs, should miami make it, will be a good indicator I think.

Terrence Ross back in the starting lineup tonight. Hey, shooting .338 in the last 10 games, he's earned it.

Hitting 3s in practice is fairy dust. Rondo looking like Steve Nash in warm-ups.
Joel will get PT and he and the coaches will see he needs to be no more than 15 feet from the basket at all times....Noel probably needs to be closer than that TBH.
If Joel can be decent on O, Noel is gone with the quickness.
