I talk about the Triangle cuz I've spent a like 15 years watching it and understand it better than any other offense. I'm definitely in favor of complex offenses with wrinkles and counters built in that favor multiple playmakers instead of one.
I'd take Pop's current offense over D'Antoni's anyday for those reasons. I just like seeing patterns and seeing the x's and o's that coaches put out there. Pick and Roll with 3 shooters isn't something I talk about because it's simple. There's no off ball movement. PG makes the appropriate pass based on what the defense does. It's ingeniuous, and lethal, and simple. But it's the difference between analyzing some super catchy simple song hook, and Qwel level, Eminem level, Gift of Gab level lyrics.

Not sure man. more chips, better defense, same number of Finals MVP's. But Bird has more regular MVP's and higher averages. Kobe had more longevity. Like we don't think about Bird being reduced to being essentially a role player some nights because of his back. Don't care, pick either one. As a Laker fan, I'd pick Kobe but that's possibly just homerism talking.
@anthonyVslater Scott Brooks said Sam Presti will release a statement on Kevin Durant today. Wouldn't provide a hint to what it is.
Not sure what's going on here. but...
IMO - Scott Brooks is gonna be fired. KD becomes first mid-20's player coach in nba history. OKC beats the warriors in round 1 to their way to a title.
By romrei Go To Post slaetn experts if warriors dont losee till end this is second best record in nba? after bulls 72 10?
tied with 97 bulls and 72 lakers at 69 wins.
By RBK Go To PostSo you don't think the Warriors have the same type of success if Harden/Curry switch teams?
Westbrook's usage rate is WAY higher than Harden's as well.
I don't know. My point is that you have to account for systems when discussing stats. No one has EVER averaged 10 apg in the Triangle. But that's not because there's no ball movement, it's the opposite. There's tons of ball movement and the passing is spread out. Same with Pop's system. And since Kerr incorporates elements of both with some D'Antoni built in and some original stuff built in, similar situation there.
You can't ask for anything more from a player than to excel at the system they're running. And both Harden and Curry do that. But that's going to make the individual stats misleading. Just like Jeremy Lin looking like a superstar or Chris Duhon looking like an NBA player in D'Antoni's system.
Like, you can argue that Harden has to carry a bigger load. But that's just his coach not correctly utilizing the talent. Pop or Phil coaching the Rockets would add more ball movement and spread the possessions out more. So is that a reason to punish Curry? I don't think that's fair. That's just the point I was making.
KD on the mend? I' m not sure why an announcement would be needed since he's already out indefinitely.
We didn't know he was having another procedure. It hasn't been performed yet.
sorry gondo. three seasons in a row. this reminds me of the warriors before joe lacob bought us (not that we were a playoff team or a contender or anything). but we had so many injuries that shouldn't have been recurring or were taken care of completely unprofessionally: baron davis, monta, david lee's bitten zombie elbow, steph's ankles... we changed trainers a year after joe lacob bought the team and a lot of that stuff has gone away. i think okc really needs to hire new trainers / doctors, and not allow the player's themselves or GM/head coach to make the decision to comeback from these injuries early. give them full rest ffs
also - five years ago you coulda had tyson chandler but i remember your training staff failing his physical or something and then he went to the mavs (if i'm remembering this correctly)? yikes...

How serious is a bone graft?

Yes. And we were only giving up Chris Wilcox and Joe Smith.
Don't remind me.
I swear to god, OKC. You better have not ruined his career...
Fucking hell this is depressing. KD is my favorite non-Laker after Dirk, too. BOOOOOOOO. BOOOOOOO.
By jjasper Go To Post Hopefully they actually allow him to be off that long.
They'll have to or else he's looking at a fucked up foot for life.
When certain procedures come into the equation it's not just about whether someone can play but quality of life period.

I was expecting Cuban #1 (maybe because he's the most visable), but 3rd is still great. 5th is pretty good for Les as well with how much flack he gets sometimes as well.
Guess the only thing "holding us back" is coaching.

Not saying this to troll you St all, but I'm glad to hear this news. I was afraid the OKC front office was going to try to rush KD back on the court. Or maybe let him play when they should have held him out.
Hope guy the dude comes back full strength next year

It's over.
So who does Houston get now KD is damaged goods?
By h3ro Go To PostBone graft?
fuck.
How bad is a bone graft?
By db Go To Post Um it's basically a procedure done when the fracture or break is either really complex and or the bone just fails to regrow. The foot is pretty complicated =/.
Holy shit. Sorry Gondo. Sorry nba fans in general. Fuck
By reilo Go To PostHow bad is a bone graft?
Well, in some surgeries, its great. A ton of the spines I deal with do really well with them. Usually goes hand in hand with spinal fusions. The grafted bone chips grow into the existing bone and becomes solid and weight-bearing.
In KD's case, they already had to remove hardware because the bone just wasn't growing back around it and the hardware loosened because of it. I don't know the specifics of the type of hardware they put in the first time but this is definitely a big time set back and now it's time to hope what they do this time around sticks.
As a fan, I hope we haven't seen the last of him at the top of his game.
Apparently the success rate with the screw alone is 92-95%.
The bone graft is resorted to for the 5-8% of cases that don't respond.
Not much to do now except wait and hope. If he comes back and plays like himself this team will be really special. And if not, it's fucking tragic.
By db Go To Post I don't know the specifics of his case but it's in the realm of possibilities this couldn't be helped.
The possibility that he just has a bum foot is a much more grim reality. For KD's sake I hope its just a case of OKC being shortsighted....cause they have a history of it, but it's possible that KD's foot is just no good and will probably do him in.
By db Go To Post I don't know the specifics of his case but it's in the realm of possibilities this couldn't be helped.
Nope, this was clearly just negligence and greed by Bennett, Presti, and the Thunder team doctors.
It couldn't possibly have been bad luck.
Shortsighted Moris? Really? When the team opted for a long-term repair for Westbrook's knee during the 2012 playoffs that effectively ended our chances of a chip?

Yeah, all I know is age, genetics and type of injury all play a role in the healing process. It's mostly through excellent modern medicine and surgery people can get properly healed bones, and even return to sports.

Really hope KD recovers 100%.
No real reason to have Westbrook play crazy minutes down the stretch now. I guess the first round sweep will be good for the newbies on the Thunder.
I guess Ibaka doesn't need to worry about returning now.
