This is semi inspired by the shitty food thread as PSY smothers everything in Ketchup. Politics too though I suppose. Then I just got to thinking about various changes in general that I've gone through over the year. So SLAENT ... in what way have you changed? Food? Politics? Religion? Video Games? Movies?
To start:
1. Mayo. It's been an odd ride for me an Mayo. I loved it as a really young child. Then I tried some home made stuff and couldn't stand to look at Mayo for 20+ years of my life. Recently though, over the last couple of years, I have been able to dabble in Mayo again selectively. It's not a favorite of mine, but I now think it's a must on various sandwhiches.
2. Ketchup. Loved the shit. It's become my least favorite condiment.
3. Eggs. Hated all eggs. Then only ate scrambled eggs. Now I can eat a fried egg with things and actually prefer a burger with a fried egg on it.
4. Gay Marriage. I grew up semi religious and in a conservative town. My views changed fast when I became close friends with a gay couple at the age of 21. I was ahead of the political curve, but not by a whole bunch.
5. Ideology. I was a republican in high school and early college. No shit.
6. Religion. I was never confirmed but did receive my first communion. Outside of high school I seriously inured my elbow but received a scholarship to a small NAIA school to play ball. It was a super religious school and I thought it was God's plan for me. Very bad experience and one that start me down my path to eventual agnostic atheism.
7. Video Games. I've grown really tired of the FPS genre. I feel like it all went downhill after Halo 2 lol.

I used to hate beer but I've acquired the taste more recently. Still don't drink it very often and its not my first choice but now I'm not against ordering something different to try it out. I'm with you on ketchup, used to eat it all the time as a kid and now I don't even eat it with fries.
I don't really think I've had significant changes in my political or ideological thoughts but I never had any perspective pushed on me so I feel like I always try and look at things rationally and not get emotional or entrenched about things.

Was it you that changed or Blackace?
Cool Ranch Doritos. Hated them as a kid for some reason. Now I love them. Maybe more than nacho cheese.
Video games. Was really into gaming in high school. Then I went to college. Still played a bit in the dorms but after that haven't really touched them. Trying to get with girls took up all my time in school.

I used to think that money doesn't buy happiness
people just don't know where to shop
and now vegans are my new modern day heroes

Used to think New Englanders had the worst accents of the English speaking nations.
Nope. Easily New Zealand.
Nails on a chalkboard.

Hated vegetables. There's still quite a few I don't eat but I'm slowly increasing my vegetable intake.
Like most people, I used to foolishly believe that you shouldn't let politics ruin a friendship but Republicans no longer deserve that privilege. Worst case scenario you believe in white supremacy, best case scenario you would rather be poor than let a minority enjoy life. (I'm sure one day Reaganomics will actually benefit 99% of the country, it's just taking awhile for it to trickle down)

Ohh yeah this too.
I used to not hate the Clippers. The the silent transplants started mouthing off.
I didn't mind blockbusters growing up. Now I hate them but still watch them so I can talk shit about them.
Marvel comics used to be the majority of my pull list. Now I don't buy any of their shit. Fuck them.
I used to fucking hate Macbeth when I was younger (around 12) but now it's my favorite of the tragedies. I still prefer comedic Shakespeare to his tragedies.
Growing up in Central Valley I used to think Republicans were not that bad. Then the Army happened and it changed my view on Republicans and America as a whole
I used to love video games. Now it's very rare I play one. I play them with my son sometimes.
I've grown really harsh on "modern" art and artist and all the bullshit these talentless fucks get followings for producing.
When I was younger I preferred Hemingway to Fitzgerald but now it's switched.

This topic made me go back and take that "political compass" survey.

Ain't nobody got time for a virtual grind when you're occupied by the IRL grind.
i went from protesting between classes to being massively indifferent about a lot of civil rights issues after college
also, i barely drink these days. no clue how that happened

I used to think there could be reconciliation and reunion in Cyprus. These days, i'm for a 2 state solution.
I used to love bananas and now I detest them.
I used to think The Big Lebowski was shit and now I think its a work of genius.
I used to think tattoos were cool and now I think they are ruiners of breasts and backs.
I used to love Muse but now I realise that's based purely off their live performances

I used to hate Muse, but can now stomach the guys voice enough to enjoy the admittedly great music going on.
By reilo Go To PostA Muse live performance is incredible though
Cant listen to them on the phones anymore. Live or nothing fam.
I also used to think tattoos were cool. Now everyone has them and it's rare I see one that I don't think is bad.
Glad I never got one.

When I was young I was kinda greased out and they were more mutton chop like. Then just ear length. Then I grew a beard about 11 years ago
I used to detest ginger and liquorice-ish flavours in food (fennel, star anise) as a kid but now I quite like them. Brussels sprouts I couldn't stand because of their bitterness but love them today.
Olive oil is another essential ingredient which I've learned to greatly appreciate growing older. On the other hand, I used to enjoy olives themselves but not anymore.
Also, nowadays I can tolerate coriander/cilantro.

I used to be a Dawkins/Harris/Tyson-style atheist. I was very condescending toward the religious and believed that people who saw "the truth" would eventually change their minds.
I now see belief in the spiritual/supernatural as something inseparable from human nature. Atheists would be much better served to hold religious institutions accountable and make sure they don't accumulate too much power than to antagonize the peacefully religious.

People who used to be religious tend to be the most militant atheists it seems. I grew up mostly without religion so I never experienced being around people who were super into it but the ex-religious subreddits are interesting to read for different perspectives. Makes you question the live and let live attitude lol

I mean, Christianity has a lot of sins it self.
It's less about the religion more about the idiots who exploit it.
By giririsss Go To PostI mean, Christianity has a lot of sins it self.True but from what I understand the mental gymnastics required to make Islam more palatable for a modern society is significantly more difficult than the way even fundamentalist Christians wave away parts of the bible they don't like. Its kind of hard to separate exploiters from religion when the exploits come from the religion without going with a no true scotsman argument.
It's less about the religion more about the idiots who exploit it.
Then again I have a hard time accepting religious people who don't practice and study whatever religion they identify with are just as much "real" Christians or Muslims as those who do lol.
