is that a linkin park song?
By Punished Go To PostYou needn't even get to the theoretical level of Arendt. She failed on the very definition of 'banality'.
How do you go as far as getting doctorates from elite schools and not learn what the banality of evil means? 🤔
By mos6142 Go To Postthey just get their other companies to "sponsor" them
Damn.
Woodward thinking "Why didn't we think of that with City, how many noodles and toilet paper sponsorshiops do they have?"
By FlutterPuffs Go To Postnothing will happen, else it would open the door to investigate all the big clubs in regards to finance.
By inky Go To PostShakespeare in LoveAt least that was watchable.
So was Les' Miserables. A musical with only 2 good song performances though.
By GQman2121 Go To PostSpielberg's The Papers just screams Oscars. Forget the subject matter and just look at that cast. No way it doesn't get a few nods even if the film is a dud.Yeah, I bet that, Dunkirk, Detroit and probably Mother! will very likely be in the running.
The Disaster Artist has a chance to be a dark horse, it's getting tons of praise and Hollywood loves a story about film making.
Serkis's Breathe could either be too cheap melodramatic or an inspiring story, not sure how that will end up.
By FlutterPuffs Go To PostThe Martian was great, The Artist was fun.Clearly, that was the inferior Crash.

Video game adaptations always suck.
I really want to stick my penis in that gash.
Holy shit, I never knew James Spader was in that. Watched it way before Boston Legal
By FlutterPuffs Go To PostLet's not forget Star Wars: A New Hope was nominated for Best Picture.
Star Wars is a better film than Annie Hall.
I can understand Star Wars and Babe. Both were solid movies who did something completely new.
Babe is incredibly charming.

I was watching The Sting the other day. Fine film, but it swept the Oscars and in the end was basically just an early Ocean's Eleven. Its victories came in between The Godfather and The Godfather 2
Dances with Wolves won right? Not terrible, but man I couldn't care less for it
The Sting is GOAT, check yourself, also you're goin in to it with hindsight

Shanks is on a roll, LMAO.
Deakins will finally do it with Blade Runner (he should thank chivo for skipping this year :P), and Villeneuve will hit it out of the park once again. Nolan is a false god, Denis is the true messiah.

I love that Crash but I am a huge Cronenberg fan.

At the end of the day Oscars suck.
It is a poor metric to judge the quality of a film when it is only seriously open to American-English films.
Even worse when you consider that Citizen Kane lost to How Green Was My Valley

By Shanks D Zoro Go To PostAt the end of the day Oscars suck.Citizen Kane had a tough time because Hearst used all his influence to battle the movie.

And no, that Mother joke was a first.
By Ciaran Go To PostI know a Manchester United fan irl who cried watching Les' MiserablesGreat movie, I can see that.
How Green Was My Valley is a good film and John Ford during the peak of his powers. It's not Citizen Kane but still.

The 60s were before the 70s. ;p
The Sting is the GOAT conman film.
Not gonna call it the GOAT heist film because that honour belongs to Heat.

They are so different, Nolan movies are much more grandiose in scale while Villeneuve's always felt a bit more intimate, even on a movie about first contact with aliens.

Exactly, the Oscars is about how much influence you have.
As much as I dislike critics, they are at least better judges over The Academy because they actually watch most of the films, although they too still have agendas.

Everyone who has an interest in the Old Hollywood needs to watch Feud. Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange give two of the most powerful performances I've seen this year on TV and they have an incredible cast supporting them, specially Alfred Molina and Stanley Tucci.
Feud is great.
Read the Fade Out comic, only 12 issues. Same era but noir mystery, done by 2 of best. Brubaker and Phillips

Still pissed at Nolan for the final act of Interstellar and thought his recent comments against Netflix came from someone that doesn't understand that he is privileged because he is one of the few directors who had carte blanche to do what he wants right now.
Love me some Villeneuve. I fancy a rewatch of Prisoners at some point this weekend too I think.
On an unrelated note I started watching Ozark last night. 3 episodes in but really liking it.

You're alright then m8.
I thought Interstellar fell off a cliff as soon as Matt Damon showed up. Thematically, the ending didn't bother me because I expected something like that.
