And y'all caught feelings when I told you this team was gonna be trash and that the triangle won't solve everything.
It wasn't catching feelings. We just said keep the trash talking in the main thread especially since the season hadn't started, or to at least wait until the season was further in.
We can trash talk now, though. It's cool. I allow it.

I expected better but fuck it they got their pick. The knicks need to say fuck this and just tank like they mean it for once. DP has been saying it for a minute and he was right. Give the young guys minutes for them to develop, look at how much it helped shumps game.
They were already talking a JR trade and once December 15th happens he is probably gone for a legit expiring because the way he is playing there is a real threat that he takes his 6 mil option and tries to get a better deal in 2016.
Then get a guy like Karl Towns with that outside shot and put him next to Melo and Marc Gasol brehs and they will still have about 10 to possibly another 30 in cap space in the next 2 seasons as well.

I wonder what kind of FA pulling power NY will have, should be interesting. Not sure what Melo and Fish can get you to be honest.

You are fogetting about Phil, playing in the Mecca, and next years number one draft pick. We got mad appeal...

It's New York. If Dolan doesn't fuck things up and let's Phil run the show I think we can attract good players. If anyone senses that Dolan is gonna pull a Dolan then we're fucked. Team has been a mess with him getting involved, no one is going to want to come here to be the new Melo and not even make the playoffs in the Least.

Wesley Mathews and Marc Gasol are FAs this summer. ;)

I really don't think it's that clear cut for players and especially their agents.
Phil hasn't shown much of any ability to run a team just yet, sure he could be great at it and Fish could be the next great coach but they haven't had any time to prove it. Being 2-8 so far this year isn't helping anything except the tank. I wouldn't be surprised if they completely struck out this Free agency cause they're still riddled with question marks. It's not like agents forgot Dolan owns the team and Phil could be gone at the drop of a hat.

Marc Gasol is option A obviously, but there are a couple of decent option B's the knicks could go after. Also for Marc unless the grizzlies over perform they are likely a second round knocked out treadmill team in the tough west. If he came out east his toughest consistent comp at center would be Noah and maybe Gortat and Hibbert..... Maybe. Outside of that he would Feast. Plus pau has already said multiple times that he has spoke to Marc about how the triangle and Phil was key parts to him gaining Championships out in LA.
So yeah there are questions about the knicks but marquee players have gone there with less assurances before. We don't know what teams are going to offer Max's and we don't know what players will want a change of scenery.
With that said I am still on the tank train..... Denver sucked but the knicks need to get a high pick. This year would be a great opportunity to find the right post player to put besides Gasol. Since the knicks need to make the decision to leave playing besides Z-Bo as a factor for going after Gasol.

Phil Jackson's contract has solid stipulations, I also think the only way Phil can leave is if he quits, Dolan can't fire him - his contract is guaranteed and he'd have to be bought out. I remember Mike Breen discussing it weeks ago.
Also, Dolan hasn't been to a single game, either. People need to get over this whole Dolan thing. He said it himself, the reason why he kept getting involved with the team in the past was because he had no else who could do the same. He basically threw Steve Mills under the bus with that comment, but it was the truth.

It feels odd to say this.. but they will be great cap wise next year. They haven't been for years.
People need to get over the tank thing; a team can lose tons of games and not be tanking, that's just them trying to win but being bad. Tanking by its nature implies obvious suckitude and trying to lose, which is what Philly has been doing for years. Bucks and Lakers aren't really tanking, they're just bad due to either lack of talent at multiple positions/poor coaching/lack of identity etc.
With the Knicks at least, it's a combination of no offensive cohesion due to learning a brand new system (which we all know would take months and maybe the season according to Fisher), poor defensive, and the usual lack of guys to support Carmelo. Like yesterday, they'll have games where the offense is humming and other where the ball movement sucks. Consistency and knowing roles is what each player has to learn, and Fisher seems like he won't tolerate shit (benching JR Smith down the stretch for Travis Wear on Friday ).
as for the high draft pick thing, this will be a deep draft for bigs I heard. They can get a post guy in the 15-20 range... Hell they can get them in the 2nd round.

Nah I hope they go for the glory, especially because its a deep draft for Bigs. There is a lot of talent out there and intentionally or not I want them to get a good/great pick to have as good a choice as possible. Its not like they have 2016 pick (though I am hoping it would be a late 20's pick if they did) and I expect the 2017 to be a late pick too if everything goes according to plan.
I full well expect Phil to trade Tim Hardaway Jr and someone else in exchange for a good pick this year.
At least, I really hope he trades him, because when he's out on the floor, he's fucking awful and brings down the offense of the whole team.

Ariza isn't that good. He was never healthy. He finally had a solid year last year, and good for him...but he's basically JR-lite. His FG stats are all over the place and his shooting is sporadic.

but the ways he's playing i don't know if he gets them a good pick. I do know he is still worth a first rounder though.

Yeah but at least he is an above average defender and we know from history he can work in the triangle at a high level.
It was Larry Browns dementia that caused us to lose Ariza.
Oh and best Gasols totally gonna leave the best team in the NBA to become a Knick. Totally.

I told you all summer Knicks need to survive the first 2 months learning the Triangle, but it might be bad. Now... they're bad. I can't get worked up about it and at least they aren't losing in the mind-numbingly bad ways they did last year.
Ok it's early but Shump looks like he finally stepped his game up. So should the knicks trade him or match offers this FA and pay him. I'm not mad they didn't give him an extension since potentially they could have their cake and eat it too if they want to go and spend all their money after other FA and use bird rights to keep him.

Yeah Shump has impressed me. He's no longer complete garbage. If we can use him to dump JR (which should be priority # 1) then go for it. Otherwise he can stay for the right price.

Nah shump is playing way to well to trade just to dump JR'S bum ass. Like don't get me wrong if the knicks have no intention of matching move him...... but get some equivalent value for once. JR is bad but he isn't worse starting pg Felton bad. If Phil was going to trade for another high pick Shump would be the guy to use (though I like the fact they are giving timmy burn to build his value too). Either way the tank is still on
Moving JR and his contract needs to be priority number one. Losing THJr or* Shump is not a high price to pay. Obviously the Knicks would want to get something back too but as long as it saves money next year they shouldn't be too picky.
*but not both

Idk man Shump is averaging 13/3/3 pg/rb/ast and JR is is like 12/3/3 Getting rid of both for just expiring contracts is a real bad move in my opinion. Shit JR isn't even a bad contract based on his production and the upcoming cap raise. He's just a potential roadblock to next year FA class where the knicks want to make major moves.
The rumored Copeland and CJ Watson deal for JR alone is exactly the type of deal the knicks should look for.
I don't mind giving up Tim and JR in a trade. Something about Hardaway's presence on the floor that destroys the team's offensive flow for some reason. Maybe he's out of position. Maybe he's clogging up the floor and ruining spacing. But shit just goes wrong with him playing. And I know I'm not crazy, because I saw a statistic that backed it up.
I would not give up Shump though. The way he's developing and how his offense has evolved could really become special for this team.

If we dont give up Shump there is a very good chance that we'll lose him for nothing or have to pay him like 10 mil per (no). Thats why im open to moving him or Tim.
Pasta got injured during practice. Christ. Dude is frail as fuck.
In other news, Calderon may be starting today. :O

There's 1 game I can see them winning during this stretch of 9 games coming up and that's OKC but Westbrook might be back. Charlotte hasn't been playing well but we're on the road in that one.

i'm the opposite looking at all the talent on that roster fighting to earn minutes once westbrook and Durant get back I expect somebody to have a career game against the knicks. How long is Melo expected to be out?
My personal 20 game probation analysis has ended.
This team is utterly fucked this season. They can't close out games. They can't shoot consistently. They won't be anywhere near the 8th seed.

At this point I am hoping they tank and get a high enough pick to get Karl Towns and pull off a decent trade for Jr and Timmy. If Phil pulls off those two moves correctly I won't hold this shit season against Phil.
If NY doesn't gets one of the 3 surest prospects how likely is NY to package the rook + filler (JR/THJ/Shump) to try and grab someone like Lance, Dragic or Rondo?
Pretty likely I'd think

I got to disagree. Of those 3 Lance is the only one the knicks maybe might go after.
I'm hoping they can make a decent trade offer for Lance now. Lance doesn't fit what the Hornets need him to do, while JR and Timmy Jr don't fit what NY is trying to do. However vice versa its the opposite. JR and Timmy can be the shooters the hornets needs, and Lance can be the defensive ball handler the knicks need to put besides Calderon (and a lesser degree shump). Considering all the players involved (and how they are playing bad) it would be a fair swap and both teams should get better without padding the offer to move contracts.
As for Rondo and Dragic idk. I think Calderon is the PG the knicks can use going forward. Rondo shooting isn't good enough for what the triangle needs from the PG and Dragic would be wasted here because PG's don't need to be nearly as nice as he is and Calderon already brings shooting.
With that said I've been saying for a while Monroe would be the guy the knicks end up getting if Gasol doesn't come. I think the knicks would use that pick to get Towns (a rim defender who can operate offensively outside the paint) or whomever is the closest to that with the pick. Monroe need somebody to cover for him defensively and get out of his way offensively. The pick is probably going to be used for that and even for that the knicks could try to just sign Robin Lopez to do that defensively with the rest of their cap space and go best player available.
So Rondo's gone.
Lance would be nice to pick up, but I'm afraid that picking up anyone short of a bonafide top-tier player isn't going to be worth ruining the tank for.
Fuck.

I didn't think Rondo was worth it and while i like lance's skill set. The more I think about it the more I think he did well in Indiana because there wasn't as much temptation, he wasn't as rich, and the teams culture kept him mostly in check (kind of)..... Him in NYC would be the opposite of all that and he might be a worse nutcase than JR who while is definitely juvenile, there are a lot of signs Lance is a jerk and juvenile which is worse.
The smart move might be to get cap space and just see what opportunities open up if the knicks miss out on any major FA this fall.
Lance is temping even if it's just for his contract (they can have Jr and Hardaway fuck a pick) but we just can't make that move. The clusterfuck potential is too high.
By masudLance is temping even if it's just for his contract (they can have Jr and Hardaway fuck a pick) but we just can't make that move. The clusterfuck potential is too high.
He available and there are no rumors that either the Hornets or NY have reached out to each other..... So yeah I think the clusterfuck quotient is too high for NY to even discuss a trade. It sucks too cause at least on paper both teams have players that fit what the other team needs..... its just those players are both knuckleheads and in a down year.
I genuinely think the team is going to avoid any silly trades. They know their season is done for. They're going to let a lot of the contracts expire, let guys leave, and make moves in the post season.
I will say this however, I feel like once the team feels like they have nothing left to play for (when they're statistically eliminated from playoff contention) I feel like they'll start putting together winning streaks. And only then. Right now, the entire team is in disarray. Too much pressure, with guys who are not used to playing under pressure.
And dear God, please keep Lance away from NY.

nah I don't see it, this whole season is about that pick and letting those expirings....expire.

The only real question this season is
1) will the knicks either find a trade partner for JR or just waive him to stretch his contract to about 2 mill over 3 yrs
Also I like lance "potential" in the triangle but your right he would go crazy on the knicks as its currently constructed.
Hmmm, I've been saying it for a while now, I can see Tobias Harris in a Knicks jersey. But he's too similar to Melo.
On the other hand, two fantastic scorers backed up by two solid guards could be a big pick-up for us in FA. One of the biggest flaws of this roster early on was the lack of consistency from everyone who wasn't Carmelo. With Harris and Melo at the 3 and 4 spots, that really should alleviate scoring woes if they creep up. He's also good on the defensive boards and not a bad defender, which is something he's always working on.
But is he worth $40M? I don't know. He's certainly a much better player than the likes of JR Smith and even Iman Shumpert.

we wont know what the plan is until the draft is over. I don't think the knicks will get him he is too much Melo lite and they need to focus on using that cap room to build around the real thing.
On another note I know the knicks have been trying to get amundson to come to NY for a few seasons and I see why he is Tyson Chandler lite defensively. He can't score for shit but he has the speed to defend on the perimeter. I am actually a little pissed they never got him here when Tyson was here. The entire time Tyson was here he never had a backup and whenever he sat the defense would immediately go to shit. Amundson would of probably been able to take his spot for about 10 minutes a game and the switching defense would of likely kept going on without a hitch either.
