By livefromkyoto Go To PostI'm gonna go right ahead and say ELO's busted if it ranks the 2016 Warriors ahead of the team that beat them and won the championship. It takes the entire season into account, not just the playoffs. So, no, ELO is not busted, it's using a proper sample size.
Also, 2009 is the best Lakers team ever? Buuuuullllshit.
By RobNBanks Go To Post2009 cavs being one of the 20 best teams of all time shows that list is absolutely meaningless. They won 66 games and had a net rating of +10.
They also went to the ECF and swept the first 2 rounds. They lost to a 59-win team that had a historically great defense.
By diehard Go To PostThey won 66 games and had a net rating of +10.and all people talk about is how the east has been trash since MJ retired, so?
if you're making the list of best teams of all time you better at least make the finals. getting bounced in the conference finals means you shouldn't be there
By KingGondo Go To PostOnly beatable by like 3 other teams playing at their peaks, one of whom had Durant, the Spurs have Pop/Kawhi, and the Cavs have Bron and Kyrie.the green excuses makes no sense. they still had two other games to win.
So much had to go right for anyone to have a chance agaisnt *last year's* Warriors. Thunder stole game 1, found a new gear in the playoffs, got up 3-1 and still lost. Cavs would have lost if Draymond wasn't an idiot and if Bron wasn't a god.
By RobNBanks Go To Postand all people talk about is how the east has been trash since MJ retired, so?Nah, you're missing the context on that argument. The East has always had 1 great team (sometimes historically so: 2005 Pistons, 2006 Heat, 2008 Celtics, 2012-13 Heat, these Cavs), but the rest of the Eastern competition is trash.
By RobNBanks Go To Postif you're making the list of best teams of all time you better at least make the finals. getting bounced in the conference finals means you shouldn't be thereThis is a wholly dumb and ignorant argument and completely misunderstands what ELO rating does.
By RobNBanks Go To Postand all people talk about is how the east has been trash since MJ retired, so?Nobody made this list on opinion, it's purely based off a mathematical formula.

Season-long stats don't account for fluky bullshit.
ELO is a system used in the chess world to determine rankings. Many video games have adopted their own versions of it to assist with skill-based matchmaking.
I don't know about the chess ELO system, but many of the video game ones require hundreds of matches to get an accurate and stable ranking for any given individual. The 82 + playoff games probably isn't enough for near-perfect accuracy people want, but is more than suitable to separate teams into different tiers.
That Cavs team was a really good team. Mostly off the back of LeBron, obviously.

By Kidjr Go To PostDidnt the celtics technically start this "mess"?AFAIK, they were all traded there. (outside of PP)
By Kidjr Go To PostAnd on the celtics point I mean, just cus your team isnt as super as heat or gsw, they still started it imo.
So the lakers started it by getting Shaq?
By reilo Go To PostBut they didn't win with that line-up last year. They barely made it to the Finals.Silly.
Warriors without Durant but with barnes are a tough-out, but still beatable. With Durant? Well, you get 16-1.
They were banged up, and the continues to be entirely underrated for the impact he had on the team and how much he contributed to them winning, Bogut injury was really big in their loss.
It's a a bit silly to condemn super teams as a phenomenon. Guys want to win and if you want to consistently win in the NBA you need at least 2 stars.
However, it's perfectly reasonable to criticize Durant for his individual decision, and to criticize the league for allowing it to happen. Sports are an entertainment product and I felt that watchability and excitement took a huge dive with one team so much better than the rest. I'll admit I'm not the most neutral observer but I've heard plenty of non-OKC fans say the same thing.
He isn't making decisions for the enjoyment of the fans though. He stands to make a lot more money in the long term if he reels off a few rings in a row and gets those shoe sales up. I see the logic in his decision and in his rhetoric. It's just disappointing as a fan of the NBA and especially of the playoffs.

Catch the David West postgame celebration interview if you can... remember when he left the Pacers, he was still a starting-level PF. He left TONS of money on the table the last few years to get a ring... and he got it.
Dude sounds like the 1800s preacher negro in the back who you go for sage advice just before you make a run to the North to find your family.

I don't think it's reasonable. But i think there are things you can criticise about it. But there are a lot of things that made it a perfectly good decision too.

They were the better team. Sometimes the better team chokes.
By Kidjr Go To PostDidnt the celtics technically start this "mess"?well yes and no... ownership has always tried to make super teams... like the Karl Malone GP Lakers and what not... but LeBron really cleared the path for players to make their own teams
By HasphatsAnts Go To PostReally really happy for Steve Kerr and Mike Brown.
β¦ and that's about it.
How can you not be happy that Shaun Livingston has two rings after all his injuries? smh

The entertainment value of the league as a whole was bad this season. Several teams blatantly tanking and an even thinner slate of contenders than the usual 3-5 teams.
Maybe the NBA doesn't care since ratings are up when there's a super team. But it's disappointing to see a league that has had some genuine drama as to who will win the title over the last 20 years turn into the Bundesliga.
And yes, I know basketball is a top-heavy sport. But this current situation is unprecedented.

Was happy for him two years ago. At this point who knows how many he'll eventually end up with if he stays with GS
I honestly don't get why people get so in arms about it still. At the moment it all switched I can see being pissed. But this a year later Cmon.
This is free agency. Ultimately the whole point of this setup is for players to go where they want to. Did people give Primetime shit for playing games with the 49ers and Cowboys in back to back year

...to reach a faulty conclusion in a sport where the best teams aren't necessarily going out all year. Like, if you got beat you're not better than the other guys, that's pretty much the whole deal.

How many of the best teams in the playoffs have a key injury happen and their chances dwindle?
By KingGondo Go To PostAs a fan of the NBA my primary interaction with it is as an entertainment product. The Bulls won six in eight years, and only didn't when the other two because Jordan had "retired" . The Celtics and Lakers ran the 80s. The Celtics dominated the 60s.

I mean. Those bulls teams were "Big 3"s.
Jordan, Pippen, (Rodman/Horace).

91 & 93 maybe. Definitely not 96-98
1992 ECSF v Knicks in seven games was really the only close series other than the Pacers in 98.

the new point god
And yet he was superseded by KD in scoring. Perhaps he can transition into being a *true* PG with KG carrying a large offensive burden?
By diehard Go To Postyou know it can be a close series even if it doesnt go 7, right? No ones doubting it. And they faced competition. And TBF, the GSW would have had a much more interesting path this year had everyone not got injured in the west.
By Phoenix RISING Go To PostAnd yet he was superseded by KD in scoring. Perhaps he can transition into being a *true* PG with KG carrying a large offensive burden? So the best shooter in the history of the NBA should ... shoot less?
And the way the warriors players and system works, there's quite a few guys who can average a lot of assists.
By s y Go To Postor if the west was any goodOr if your face was any good.
KD*
And yes. When you have a team, it shouldn't be necessary for you to sustain what you used to do. If KD were still on the Thunder, would Westbrook have to average a triple-double per game for them to make the playoffs, only to be eliminated in the first round?

man
these rosters are such ass around the league--how has it really come to this? GS with 4 all-stars and every other team besides Cleveland having at most two. And the majority of those with two have really flawed rosters.

Not just 4 all-stars, 4 legit 2-way players. I don't know how the hell anyone can be expected to compete with that.
