i really aint trying to hear about injury tears with kyrie
most of his bad play has been from some super questionable shot selection--when he actually drives he looks great
bad thing for the league is nobody is in a situation cap wise to really make any moves to even come close to matching GS--it's just not really possible under the cap structure as it is now.
I'd be interested to see a third star with the Pelicans along with good roleplaying depth, but not sure they can even manage that given the cap
tldr: tank

They can't keep that together right? Jeez
I mean its the richest area in the country and they have the best team ever. It wouldn't surprise me if they are comfortable paying that
I could see them being worth 5 billion in 4 years

By HasphatsAnts Go To PostThat GSW team prints money. They'll pay the taxFor the players.
The team ... not so much.
By giririsss Go To PostFor the players.Pretty sure the owners are eating well on the money they make off this GSW team and will continue to do so.
The team … not so much.
They made 74 mil profit last year, and they are owned by a group of businessmen whose main goal is profit. The actual earnings difference from being a great team that can compete for the finals run and a championship team is not very large. There is no way they pay huge luxury taxes.

By blackace Go To PostDoes that include merchandise? Or only what they made at the arena?I thought merch was shared. I think maybe the player gets a cut? (or it goes to the players union? i forget exactly).
The only real way teams can make more for themselves over others is
1. Local TV deals. Which a percentage of goes to the league. But a percentage the team keeps.
2. Ticket Prices
3. Arena revenue.
4. Team Sponsorship's.
Outside the TV Deal (depends on the length of the contract). The other 3 can all be increased if the team is really good. But $250M more, per season?
The team also gets more revenue for going deep (more home games, more broad cast games). And they get bonus money for winning (which typically goes to the players).
But ... $250M is a lot to make up.
By blackace Go To PostDoes that include merchandise? Or only what they made at the arena? From what i can tell that includes merchandising as their gate receipts don't nearly equal that and they won't get a share of the revenue sharing (and i believe are ineligible because of the market they are in anyway). They can however seemingly re-negotiate their local TV contract in 2020.
Would imagine they discussed the possible scenarios of keeping the team together when they decided to go after Durant.
Unless they were just fully win now who cares about 4 years from now.

By blackace Go To PostThis is a year old but pretty sure teams make money off their logo and brandThe only info i can find on this is random forum posts saying the revenue is shared, but i think thats people confusing that merchandise goes into the "BRI" and then is essentially "shared" amongst the players.
I think it is local, it just doesn't seem to be all that much.

I think the branding is one of the reasons why teams like the Knicks make SO much money. Even with sharing the Knicks and Lakers make so much more money then say the Bucks.
By blackace Go To PostI think the branding is one of the reasons why teams like the Knicks make SO much money. Even with sharing the Knicks and Lakers make so much more money then say the Bucks. They do that because of their local tv deals and gate receipts.
And the teams themselves get great sponsorships just because of market size.
By reilo Go To PostTV money is definitely part of the profit-sharing.
Only a percentage of it though. Not the whole deals.
Also, I might be wrong on this, but teams in the luxury tax aren't allowed to participate in the profit-sharing. It's part of its punitive design.
By blackace Go To PostI am really feel there is almost no way that there is equal sharing from merch..Anything merch sold in the arena or are on the team store website is the team's to keep. Outside of that goes into a shared pool, I think?

I'm pretty sure that the deal the league makes to license the logos (it's deal with Nike) is still part of the revenue sharing, how Nike takes that out of each jersey sold i have no idea. Hell, maybe that's all of it and teams don't actually make money off each jersey sold, it's amazing how little info there is out there about this. I'm actually thinking of sending a tweet to David Locke because he is crazy and answers this crap. Oh i don't even have a twitter, right.

Pretty sure owners keep whatever they make after they pay the BRI..
Forbes says $134M for GSW's gate receipts in 2016. https://www.forbes.com/teams/golden-state-warriors/
That's most likely before Home Road Split, which is still fucking bananas.

By blackace Go To PostPretty sure owners keep whatever they make after they pay the BRI..Merchandise is actually part of the BRI, but my understanding is that it's just a way to calculate what the income of the league is to determine how much should go to players. GSW pays out revenue sharing based on the BRI though.

By blackace Go To PostIt's part of the BRI and players are entitled to x% of the profits from naming rights and merch. The remaining part of that belongs to the team. From how I read it…I think the BRI is just a number to determine what the salary floor/cap will be and how much will go into escrow for the players, the only effect it has on an individual teams profit is related to the cap. So if each team is making money on jersey sales they arent paying a "tax" on it for revenue sharing or anything . But .. i still think that teams might not be making money on jersey sales (or maybe not much?) because NIke already pays the licensing fees to the league office.
Yeah. There seems to be very little clear cut information about how exactly one teams income is made, and what percentage of it they get to keep.

Going back to the cap spike vs cap smoothing decision (with all the TV money coming into the league) a few years ago:
Weren't Chris Paul and Lebron (the current Pres and VP or the Players Association, respectively) at the forefront of that decision? IIRC, they chose the Cap Spike for whatever reasons, but if they had chosen cap smoothing, we would not have KD right now. Definitely cost themselves with that decision.

By Moris Go To PostKevin Love should be ashamed. Dude has NO presence.
But yeah, that's double dribble and Steph should have kept his head down after getting away with that.
Steph does that move all the time, it just happens so quickly in real time that it looks like he's just switching hands.
