Lukaku has a great games to goal scoring ratio but he is not consistent in the sense that he would score every other game. He will go 5 games without a goal and then score 5 against West Brom. Then 4 without a goal and get 2 against some side.
That's why he is not considered to be in the same bracket as Kane because Kane consistently scores a goal every other game.

By Cleff Go To PostGriezmann not coming, Lukaku probably going to Chelsea, Belotti not worth the money, Lewandowski and Mbappe unobtainable.this only means one thing
Getting ready for the Jose strop o bb.
Mou will try to sign Walcott to stab Wenger in the heart
By Bungie Go To PostIn the article it says people he spoke to think United didn't want to pay the £84 million, which is now actually £87 millionApparently Atletico wanted it all in one go instead of in installments like United wanted.
Either way, seems like there'll be no #Griezday this summer.
Bring me Fabinho
By Killer7 Go To PostApparently Atletico wanted it all in one go instead of in installments like United wanted.Nah - Atletico were never willingly going to sell once banned. Which means the only way to get him is to pay the clause, and that has to be a single deposit, so we'd have to give him the £87m - and I can see why they might not want to do that.
Either way, seems like there'll be no #Griezday this summer.

Miggy D is saying the club wanted to negotiate the transfer, so even if we paid the £87m...we could pay over a few years.
By Bungie Go To PostIn the article it says people he spoke to think United didn't want to pay the £84 million, which is now actually £87 million
It's almost definitely because we didn't want to pay the full amount up front which is what we'd have to do now they're transfer banned.
I'd imagine our lines of immediate credit don't stretch that far plus for all the other signings we plan on making.
Tl;dr we're rich but we're not that rich.
By jtb Go To Postdid n8 really say that wenger was one of the best managers in the world?
calm down.
I can feel you getting angry.
By Hitch Go To PostI'd rather pay 200m for Kane than 90m for LukakuI'm with you on that Hitch.
Make it 350m and we'll get an Alli Kane double.

I can see Wenger going all in on Griezmann just to silence the critics

Lukaku - 32 goals in 22 games

Kane - 35 goals in 20 games

Haven't broken them down into the quality of teams that either player tends to score braces against, but there you go for now

Makes the transfer window more interesting now though. Like who are we going to turn to now. Does not signing Griezmann change our plans in other positions too.

Apart from in China where he can probably ask Kai to get on the treadmill and they'd okay it

By Cleff Go To PostMakes the transfer window more interesting now though. Like who are we going to turn to now. By Killer7 Go To PostBroker than Arsenal :(Papa Wenger has spent the last decade amassing bills under his mattress, so of course. Can't compete with that.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostEvery transfer window we hear about Arsenal's warchest - it should be at least 500m by now.
We spent 113m euros last year.

He will go 5 games without a goal and then score 5 against West Brom. Then 4 without a goal and get 2 against some side. This is a bit hyperbolic. You accuse Lukaku of padding it up by scoring 5 when it doesn't count when Kane is the one who scored 7 in his last 2 games with nothing to play for.
That's why he is not considered to be in the same bracket as Kane because Kane consistently scores a goal every other game.
Kane is 3 times the player Lukaku is, but he is also an impossible transfer. Lukaku's goal guarantee is there and you are overstating his inconsistency.
By Grizzled Cola Go To PostHow about overpaying for a striker who is a tier below what we need because he is available?
He's not a tier below. There are not many 30+ a season PL proven goal scorers out there to choose from.
By Laboured Go To PostWhat's the tier we need?Either currently world class or on their way to being

By Grizzled Cola Go To PostEither currently world class or on their way to beingWoody should make fresh new bids for Lewandowski and Neymar. I'm sure they are dying to come.
Funny thing is, Icardi and Belotti might very well fit the nebulous definition of "on the way to being world class" and I bet you wouldn't want either anyway.
Let's face it, Lukaku IS United tier, and if he scores 25 goals in the PL and the team can challenge for the league again on the back of some of those goals, then we can talk about a tier above as if there was anyone reasonably available.
By jtb Go To Postdid n8 really say that wenger was one of the best managers in the world?
