My sister identifies Seattle with Starbucks coffee and that's literally the only reason she's trying to take a trip out there.
Yeah and she fancies herself a coffee snob when I suggest 7-Eleven or McDonald's instead. Calls me a peasant.
Yeah I hope her trip to Seattle will help her discover better coffee or something but I'm not holding my breath.
By reilo Go To PostI mean, two people can be wrong and right about the same thing at the same time.
I would rather Mc D's drip than Starbucks 10 out of 10 times
By HasphatsAnts Go To PostI mean if you’re talking about Amazon then yes. It’s a weird relationship. But I don’t know how much Microsoft really has to do with Seattle when it’s in Redmond and vast majority of its employees live in BellevueI dunno about this logic, there's plenty of shit that was based in SJ and still basically turned SF into their playground. MS employees, especially the younger batch, aren't just patronizing shit in those two places.
By Random Ass Username Go To PostI dunno about this logic, there's plenty of shit that was based in SJ and still basically turned SF into their playground. MS employees, especially the younger batch, aren't just patronizing shit in those two places.
No I just find it strange that we're talking about MS when half of downtown Seattle are Amazon offices. There's one tech giant that's based in Redmond, with most of its employees commuting out of Bellevue, and then there's another tech giant that's integrated itself into the fabric of the city. The focus is very strange to say the least.
And let's be clear for a second. Google (Mtn View) and Facebook (Menlo Park) are still close enough to SF where a day in day out commute is feasible. Not great, but feasible. Actual SJ based companies like Cisco, Nvidia, Intel, etc. Don't have very many people commute in and out of SF. That's lunacy.
It's lunacy to commute to Menlo Park and Mountain View from SF. Fuck being in traffic to commute to work for 3 hours a day. Shit is NOT healthy. I don't care how nice their shuttle buses are.
Well with special bus lanes it’s about 1:15 minutes each way on a good day. Pretty doable if you can work from home twice a week. 1:30 or 1:45 is definitely pushing it.
Commuting around the Bay Area blows in spite of still being better than many other places. Even Bart or SF bound shuttles are not a straight shot from a home because local bus lines tend to suck ass and you have to go to a central transit hub for the SF direct stuff.
By HasphatsAnts Go To PostThe earlier shuttles tend to be more on time tho. Leave at 6:30 and it’s a much easier rideBro get the hell out of here 😂
Leave at 6:30 I am dying nah nope lol
That’s why most people don’t do it. Were in SJ proper and we’ve got folks commuting in from Concord tho. It’s rough out there
Shit is dumb. I wouldn't want to live near Mountain View or Menlo Park either. It's just as expensive as SF and it's suburbia hell.
By HasphatsAnts Go To PostThat’s why most people don’t do it. Were in SJ proper and we’ve got folks commuting in from Concord tho. It’s rough out thereWhen I went to college in SF there was folks commuting in from Sac. And more and more people coming in from Modesto and Brentwood into SF. Many would have liked to live even close to SF but the rental prices? Might as well stay at home, you're already paying a fuckton just to go to college. Now even people working are coming from insane distances.
The Jamie Foxx Show is a LOT worse than I remember.
However Fancy is even finer than I remember.
Also it has something in common with DBZ. The driving school episode is legendary.

Black people are more likely to be shot by police, more likely to be in prison, more likely to get harsher sentences for the same crime, etc.. Therefore white privilege
Men are more likely to be shot by police, more likely to be in prison, more likely to get harsher sentences for the same crime, etc... Therefore male privilege?
This has always confused me.

I live in LA man, I've been driving in 3 hours of traffic a day to live in Suburbia since I started working. It's not quite as expensive and the city proper is more of a metropolis like city than SF, but the urban sprawl and shitty freeways that were designed in the 50's-60's has us fighting a similar battle. Areas that I used to go drive to shoot (BLM LAND) as a kid are now housing complexes as people push further and further east and north. As I gain equity and income I keep moving west to cut down on traffic time. Shits not cheap lol

By Kibner Go To PostWhat does it matter if I do or don't?That was addressed to Fender. I think that her being a racist does not mean that everything she says is wrong (as an example, Winston Churchill was a racist) however that doesn't mean you should just brush aside her racism.

She has racial bias, for sure. Conceptually though, punching up is different than punching down. Random tweets from a distressed minority has caused me 1/1000th the emotional trouble that my Lakers sucking for half a decade has caused. Until I've been oppressed it's hard for me to criticize where someone ends up that has experienced oppression ... know what I mean?
That being said. If the messenger is garbage the message is lost. Reminds me of the 2016 election to some extent in that respect.

Is this on a percentage basis? I would like a citation, not saying you're wrong. I've just not read this. IMO this is just sort of picking and choosing metrics to make a convenient quip. The issues of oppression that face gender and race are different.

Exactly. What is she gonna do? Not give Fender a job? Not let Fender rent out her property? Not let her kids go to the same school as Fender's kids? C'mon guys, there are things to be outraged about and then there's everyday nonsense.
Ignorant fools like this isn't worth your time. Ignorant fools with power. Now that's something to consider.

Donald Sterling discriminated against Black and Latino renters at his properties for DECADES and was allowed to own a dang NBA team! And there are literally thousands of people like him who have faced zero consequences over the years.
The number of black people who hold her views and are also in positions of power to discriminate against a particular race/ethnicity is so fucking miniscule, this literally makes me laugh out loud.
The only way in which I'll be concerned about these views is if she's a cop. Full stop.
We really having this conversation about the every day shit white people and men can go about their business and do but minorities and women are frankly SOL about all of the time? The only time you really need to contest such ideas is if you're fine pretending different for some fucked up agenda. On the scale of oh noes someone is lambasting white people on twitter, it ranks so low, that if you spend your energy on it in spite of like congress deporting Dreamers I'm like yo okay.
I think any argument against, in america in particular (where this conversation is really about) that there is a natural privilege to be white, is inane ignorance. There is also a natural privilege if you're rich. Having one doesn't cancel the other out, and they're additive.
I'm not sure i buy the able-bodied privilege though. I think those aren't privilege, but being away from the norm is a disadvantage. Not sure if people will see the distinction. I also hate the examples she cited "signs are made for the people with sight, if everyone didn't have sight, the world would be different". Well, yes, because the massive overwhelming majority are sighted. We should do our absolute best to accommodate those with disabilities. Should certainly make it illegal to discriminate against. But limit all of society ? Her examples are stupid.

Able bodied is a total privilege. So is being schooled, getting a proper education, living where folks live, growing up in safe environments, parents not being abusive, running clean water, electrical and heat always on, etc.
It's not a big deal to label these things as blind spots other folks have to the enormity of shit others go through and how we can prevent it and accommodate them better.

How this relates to race relations is more sticky in the US than in other countries. I think Fortune is from the UK? (Correct me if I'm wrong). This doesn't necessarily mean his logic isn't off, just that it's more understandable that it's off.
In any case, I always take opportunities like these to hone my arguments. You might not change HIS mind, but he may not be the only person reading either.
sorta related, but nothing pisses me off more than the people who like to engage in politics and can't help but add how they only took a serious interest after trump was elected

Plenty of places got the same racial issues in terms of who is not hired, who is frequently turned down to rent or own property in various locations, how the indigenous are treated, etc. Isn't just a US thing.

Again, i consider those disadvantages to others, more than privilege's to those who do. Maybe it's partially about the context that people try to rope all privilege in together, with racial privilege which is purely a human created privilege with out any basis for existence.

I'm probably have a more optimistic view of the situation then you do. I'm thankful that people are now holding politicians accountable. They should it on a more local basis too. I'm hoping that these same people will also do the same the next time there is a Democrat president.f

I am from the UK but now live in Michigan. What did I say that was off? I didn't say white privilege didn't exist, much the opposite based on what I posted. All I did was post about how the main statistics used to prove white privilege (from organisations like Black Lives Matter) can also apply to men but typically those who call out white privilege also call out male privilege. It seems in that situation the statistics that you used before are ignored and replaced with new ones. I am skeptical about outright male privilege in general.
I also suspected based off the woman's tweet about Hawaii that she may have racial biases (if you don't want to outright call her racist) and couple of minutes searching (it wasn't much work, there's a lot more tweets I could have posted) led me to those tweets. I posted them because I think it's important to hold everyone to the same standard regardless of who they are.
