I feel like I'm about to spend way to much time fucking around with slinkys now.
I am not sure to what extent Buckethead is known around these parts, but I'm a very big fan of his and he's just spoken publicly for the first time ever - on a podcast called Coming Alive.
He goes into great detail (for someone who's lived anonymously) about his life and also reveals he's been diagnosed and is currently suffering from chronic heart failure which could prove fatal at any given moment.
Here's an excerpt from the interview regarding the latter:

Here's an excerpt from the interview regarding the latter:
“Well, really recently, I have a heart problem where my heart beats out of rhythm. It’s been doing it for a long time, but recently it just really kicked up and became really intense. It's been doing it for a long time, but recently it just really kicked up and became really intense. I really didn't know what was going on."It's as beautiful as it is devastating. I highly recommend people listening to this in full.
"I just tried to deal with it and let it do what it did, and eventually it would stop,”
"But it got really intense, so I went to the doctor and they said, 'You're on the verge of having a stroke.'"
“They suggested I had a thing called an ablation, they go in and freeze your heart. It’s supposed to do something with the nerves, because they said my heart was fine, but it could be a genetic thing, they didn’t really know. I had that procedure, and it didn’t really stop it, and I’m still dealing with it."
"I take medication, which is tough, because I never took anything my whole life, although if I eat food or drink something that’s probably worse anyway (laughs). So it’s been really difficult, because it’s scary because it comes on. Even walking across a room is difficult, luckily the medication I’m thankful for, because it’s kept it from going berserk, but it’s pretty intense.”
"I mean, the day after I had that procedure, I recorded a record with my friend. I just lied in bed and recorded it, because I felt like, I'm here still."
"I could be gone tomorrow. Anybody could be gone, but that's a heavy experience. I want to play right now, and I want to play that experience."

By Kibner Go To PostYeah, I casually follow him after finding out about him from Guitar Hero. That's really sad to hear. :(Hearing him talk about the recent loss of both his parents, medical bills piling up due to severe issues with his back and now a serious heart condition - which in turn limits him from touring - is absolutely brutal.
He deserves so much more and so much better.

Good ol' Bob is still doing his thing in cali? That's where he was last seen, but his ministry has like 10 members these days.
Never heard of that airplane stuff. These guys are something else. That can't be improv, they must take acting classes. It's mesmerizing.

Probably the part where people place a ton of value on something that has next to zero intrinsic value. At least gold is shiny. We got some smart developer types here. Should come up with a SLAENT crypto. Phaze can market it.
I don't get it from the very beginning
The moment I read that people were stocking up on GPUs to mine for bitcoins, it was beyond my comprehension

It's basically a form of currency that's not easily traceable by central locations / entities and it isn't regulated by those institutions. For example, you can't deposit more than 5K in your account without the IRS taking notice and there's multiple people and trails along the way which document these transactions. A central bank also controls cash flow, interest rates and regulates how things are done.
Crypto was born in the libertarian fantasy world we're not only is the transaction fairly anonymous, but the whole system lacks a central regulating agency. Which was hilarious during the Mt Gox scandal. The currency is sort of like fiat currency in that nothing backs the crypto. There's no gold or any other commodity to tie it's value too. This isn't bad, but unlike a state, there's no regulating agency making sure the currency stays relevant. So the US uses a fiat currency, but it's value is derived from the fact that the US says it has value AND, from the fact that if you don't use the dollar, the US will arrest you for not paying taxes. Therefore the dollar will always have value. The crypto only has value as long as people who trade think it does. Another thing to note, is that lacking a central agency means it's less stable. Some cryptos are deflationary by design too, so people tend to horde instead of using it for an actual currency. It's more like a volatile asset that people speculate one. Which is why most of the time people talk about Cryptos like it's stock and not like it's an actual currency.
Fiat currency IS a currency backed by a government that issued it. e.g. US Dollar, British Pound, the Euro.
Crypto aren't fiat, by default.
Crpyto is basically what Fender said, but here's the "simplified" version. In the same way that the US Mint create new US Notes / Coins, Crypto Miners mine new Crypto Coins.
The process of mining coins has several effects. The most part is, it's meant to make sure there are always coins in use / available by providing new ones to the market.
These coins aren't government controlled. By any government. And they're untraceable. Why's that good? No conversion rate tax, no import /export duties, no taxes in general. No law enforcement reading the details.
Why's that bad? There is NO way to reverse transactions and you're 100% at the whim of a market that has NO safety net.
Why are they so popular? Most coins won't ever be worth anything. A lot of the new ones are tied to very specific use cases. For example, we could have slaent coin. And using slaent coins that you either purchase from us, or mine, you could pay for slaent gold, which allows you to filter out all suen and psy posts.

I'm curious what's it gonna take to knock bitcoin off its pedestal? There's been better designed currencies, but bitcoin's use as a currency is secondary to value as a speculative asset.

There are gold backed ones now, but .... only a few months old.
The better designed coins, like Ethereum, really only stand a chance to topple BTC, by gaining legitimacy. Fiji just allowed you to use BTC to pay for your citizenship / passports.
Now if Ethereum got that done for a bunch of other countries .... and similar services it would stand a chance.
So is "He knew what he signed up for" really wrong in applied logic, or are people just offended because it's "insensitive" to say?
This is a serious question. Soldiers take oaths, right? Is there some expectation that they won't ever die? Is there some context that I'm missing? Are people still being surprised at the kind of man #45 is? Why is this a story?
So...IDK...odd.

If your wife died while giving birth to one of your kids, would you want to hear "well, she knew what she signed up for"?

Like I tried to. Best I could come up with was a drunk driver that hit a tree or something. But nah, that's still a dick move.
I guess in this case his chances of getting hurt or killed in action is a lot higher than the average army recruit, but like, to say that people sign up for the army with the expectation that they're going to be hurt or killed is ludicrous on its face. Let alone saying that out loud to a grieving widow.
Like, do you say the same thing about a firefighter who died in the line of duty?
