This is actually really old (by internet standards). It's just that some people have the audience to get it circulated and others do not. Like one comment said, "I posted this and didn't get 3 million views #salty."
By s y Go To PostI mean, she def saw that comingI mean, ESPN seems pretty racist. Not even sure it's lowkey racist.
By giririsss Go To PostI mean, ESPN seems pretty racist. Not even sure it's lowkey racist.ESPN pays the NFL.....
By diehard Go To PostDoes race have anything to do with it? I bet you they share advertisers, don't fuck with the money.
Obviously it does. Money also enters the equation, but in this instance the money is forcing ESPN to suspend a black female for posting her thoughts on race related issues. How is race not a relevant topic here. Should money always be the deciding factor? This all after the fact that we know ESPN already tried to replace her for the previous incident but couldn't find other black people to replace her and didn't think replacing her with a white person would look good.
What's even shittier here, is that her tweets aren't an outright order to boycott nor are the inflammatory (calling trump a racist is a true statement but also is inflammatory to many). She correctly points out the position black players who want to kneel now face. Somehow pointing this out and also pointing out that we, the fan, also have power too voice our concerns too, puts ESPN in a negative light.
ESPN basically sided with racists for the sake of the dollar and you're out here trying to divorce race from the equation.
By s y Go To PostESPN pays the NFL…..
So they have a monetary reason to be complicit in acting like shitheels ... they're still shitheels.
By s y Go To PostI mean yeah,i just thought espn being racist was a given
I mean ... the calculus was always going to be "monied interests vs. non monied interests" with the obvious dollar winning out. Here they're in a tough position though. Half of their viewership is honky ass NFL fans but they also have a vested interest in seeming like they care about black people. Which is why this Jemele Hill thing is a story. Fuckers tried to get other black employees to replace her for calling Trump a racist. That's like firing someone because assholes take offense to the sky being blue.
ESPN is trying to walk a fine line without pissing anyone off too much and that just isn't possible when it comes to race relations.
To be fair, Jemele isn't putting them in an easy spot. I'm sure they would prefer she just take her paychecks to stay quiet, instead shes having them think about morality during their calculus.
By diehard Go To PostDoes race have anything to do with it? I bet you they share advertisers, don't fuck with the money. If you want to look at it entirely superficially and only on the surface, which is what ESPN is desperately hoping you do, then no. It doesn't. She came out against a "Core Client".
But.... that's not even close to the truth of it. And I know you'e smart enough to look past the surface facade ESPN will try to paint it with.
Fox didn't, and won't air the anthem for their games; CBS hasn't made a formal announcement but they didn't air it for any of their games; and the smallest number of players yet participated this week (none of the Ravens or Raiders did outside of Lynch sitting).
Dolphins owner Stephen Ross explains it best:
Basically, our customers are too stupid to think for themselves so you have to stand since the conversation has changed from whatever it was you were protesting.
Jerry Jones, the league and networks have won.
So your aunt and uncle who have never eaten or been exposed to fresh seafood before can rest easy - kneeling is over.
Dolphins owner Stephen Ross explains it best:
"I think it's incumbent upon players today if that's how the public is looking at it, is to stand and salute the flag,” Ross said at a Sunday morning stadium event for his Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality (RISE) program.
Trump has "changed that whole paradigm" of protesting during the anthem into a statement on patriotism.
"Trump has made [standing for the anthem] about patriotism,” Ross said. “It's so important if that's what the country is looking at to look at it differently….It's a different dialogue. Whenever you're dealing with the flag, you're dealing with something different."

Damn that night sky
Ive never been far away enough from civilisation to truly see the stars like that
Whenever I take the ferry to France I'm pretty astounded by just how precise everything has to be for the ship to come to a halt at the exact distance it needs to from land
Then again I may be missing a simple mechanism that provides more room for error than it feels like

By Smokey Go To PostI HATE the feeling of getting blood drawn. Like, the sensation of it leaving you just ughIt ain't no thing to be. Then again, I grew up with my mom giving me allergy shots in one arm while I was writing out my spelling words she was giving me with my other one.

Needles never phased me, but that entirely normalised them.
By Smokey Go To PostThat one scene in Saw 2 where breh got thrown in the needle pit WAS.THE.WORST.I empathize with the characters of movies too much and imagine myself in those situations far too easily when I watch those kinds of movies that I just don't watch them anymore.
Had a friendly, but Come to Jesus discussion with the PR dept at my "side-hustle."
They were wondering why I was getting video game codes directly without even shooting a request, but they were shooting out requests and not getting hits.
I don't know how that happened, but it turns out that I somehow ended up on the LISTSERV of arguably the largest indie gaming distributor.
I'm not going to complain. I just told PR that I'll BCC them when I reply to the code drops.
Oh, speaking of shooting shots, PC Gamer was looking for an indie game writing curator. Didn't hear back from them. Bummer.
Open Critic sent me an email basically asking me to give them a pitch as a feelance original content writer. I think I'll have more luck there.
The dream is still alive.

You wouldn’t want to stick your hand in a cows ass?
I'm at a coffee shop and they're playing Michael Jackson and I put on Age of Consent on my phone instead and I had this realization that I totally would rather listen to New Order than MJ and that this probably constitutes some kind of controversial opinion but give me a break. I'll take their catalogue over his any time.
