The way the latest DLC is being gated over and over people are just gonna fuck off Destiny 2 for good. /shrug
there's no way activision has been in some of this post-forsaken stuff
timegated anything goes completely against that. trials would've came back too or at the very least pvp wouldn't have been allowed to turn into whatever it is now. that's just so, so inefficient. they spent actual effort on making destiny pvp something to market for years now. its garbage. that raid shit too just.... they stepped back and let bungie fail on black armory

Okay, a bit of my thoughts and what I have gathered from other players on Era.
BA so far is the right idea but poorly executed.
Yes, it does have its downsides, but so much of them can be attributed to growing pains. All in all, a lot of lessons they learned from prior expansion/content deployments were applied here to great effect
>Not owning the AP only resulted in you being unable to equip BA-labelled gear or enter the new raid. The new holiday event was available to all players.
>All players got to enjoy the Light level bump, even though they didn't own the AP, resulting in a much less split playerbase than earlier attempts at releasing major content throughout the year.
>Almost all of the content BA added was, in a way, to reinvigorate the meta-gameplay loops that are the endgame of Forsaken.
> Some of the guns introduced in BA are incredible, from Hammerhead to Blast Furnace, and now from Jouten to Izanagi's Burden.
> They added new mods as a part of BA, and the mods are actually really solid additions to the weapon mod pool.
A traditional campaign would've simply been a waste - the campaign stuff from CoO or any of the D1 Y1 expansion campaigns were all ass. In fact, the only campaign I found compelling from a player engagement point of view was what they did in Forsaken, which seems to be a direction they want to continue developing in because even though BA didn't have a traditional campaign or story, there was a story in it that players could discover.
BA is decent mix of casual and hardcore. I'm quite casual, play maybe an hour a day maybe 2 and got everything except the raid weapons (and the new forge obviously) . On top of the season changes and pinical weapons and the winter event I think it's been a great time to just switch off and listen to podcasts and play.
Outside of a throw away 1 to 2 hour compaign being missing I don't have to many complaints. It feels about on par with Coo but with foundation of forsaken to make it better.
Seriously, there is not enough time and man-power to churn out a Forsaken sized game/update every 3-6 months, its just not gonna happen.

Every time.
The Stevie G of loot shooters.
That worked out well
Should have just stayed with Microsoft. They knew that Bungie needed a good slap every now and again

I don't think its even a question of manpower or poor decision making. Their entire approach to content is just unsustainable at every level from a development standpoint or from a player's point of view. Timegating content is just so amazingly struggle... Even when mobile games do it, they have appropriate banners attached with *increased drop rates* along with clearly labeled attached/associated material. There is GOOD replayable content available.
Why make it harder to just do what you want to do? Then they justify it by making the rewards of doing what you want to do more difficult to get? which in turn makes you hate the shit you like lol
Its a problem because they think that doing all this stuff is a great way to build a content stream foundation when they intentionally do things the hard way after seeing what clearly works and simply improving on it. Its constant over correction because they don't know what they want and they're trying to appease a specific part of the player population that doesn't know what THEY want.
At no point has anyone said that they love deciphering bullshit heiroglyphs or playing on any of these maps in PVP, but they put out more bad maps and somehow one up the worst parts of Last Wish. also that last raid was pathetic

I said that streamer puzzle room was an immense fuck up. I wasn't trying to be hyperbolic or exaggerate. It was the shitty cherry on top a sundae of continued hiding content behind stupid rotations or other gates and keeping the numbers up by putting carrots behind doing shit no one likes (Competitive).
This is either the best news ever or the actual curtain call for Destiny.
No in between 😂😂

On another discord, someone brought up a question on how they are going to untie D2 on PC from Battle.Net. The chat and friends list and pretty much all the social stuff is ingrained into it.

Assume they'll move home with D3.
I seriously doubt the streamer puzzle is responsible for this.
Jason himself said in the tweet its been a tense relationship since before Destiny launched, its finally become untenable.
If they've taken the IP with them then there is hope it will continue. Interesting times ahead.
Basically, my Mou getting sacked 2.0, really happy

I think it actually might be, my reasoning being they probably expected certain kinds of data and numbers and could give less than two fucks how they were acquired or how much of the games population they have burned out. Now that the burnt out part is finally reaching certain levels of "fuck playing this game anymore", neither side can ignore it.
Creatively its good Destiny is full of so much insane potential- on top of that not being tied to an annual release.
Financially? I dont know, I imagine they would have to have secured funding from elsewhere to leave this contract.
The clowns in management at Bungie need to get their heads out of their asses though..

By reilo Go To PostYou know things are messed up when we can't even conclude if leaving Activision is a good thing for Destiny.as shit as the cod community is, you'll never see a flood of all their best, well-known streamers jamming up twitch to do a world's first zombies run
because they know that even though its got the most loyal base of niche fans ever, its still absolutely niche no matter what. they'll have a little walkthrough for it and give it some time in the main trailer, but they're not gonna lock the whole fucking community behind it until the most hardcore of the most hardcore beat it after 12+ hours - weeks after the game or dlc actually released
someone, somewhere is a fucking idiot
By DY_nasty Go To Postas shit as the cod community is, you'll never see a flood of all their best, well-known streamers jamming up twitch to do a world's first zombies runYeah that streamer thing, while not THE thing was pretty much the culmination of shit decisions of how content releases and or being able to play stuff has been.

Shit like shattered throne only open every 2 weeks is bullshit.
Nightfalls on rotation is bullshit.
Heroic adventures only being accessible on certain planets when they're the flashpoint is bullshit.
Very low rng drop as progression in a quest line is bullshit.
On and on.

activision and bungie were on the rocks before D1 even released and more news comes out about that every few months it seems. game was too big to fail, then it was about to capsize and became a massive investment for all, then it was too good to NOT be hyped about D2.... rinse and repeat. This is the best lull to make this sort of move according to the typical destiny timeline. Right before D3 gets set in stone
The Year 2.5ish DLC will be a general idea of what's to come for D3 since its inevitably getting pushed back now though
Burn out is real when it comes to Destiny.
It can burn you out, but only if you let it.
Seriously, I went on a three week hiatus last January. and another 3 week break in May.

I mean "if you let it" because otherwise you fall super far behind and what's the point of even hitting up PVP it's all meta shit from the latest questlines or PVE encounters. Then you want to do stuff and it's gone forever, or it's only out at this specific time. Who the fuck wants to schedule shit around a game like that. Hey I haven't done Shattered Throne before seems interesting, oh wait it's not even available this week. Legit stuff I said to myself some weeks ago. Starts to beg the question why am I playing this game if I CAN'T PLAY THIS GAME.

Preach bruv. Think some games should come with a special "not for people with full time jobs" rating.
destiny burns you out with its bs quest steps....
given how passionate bungie is when it comes to making 'goals more rewarding', its obvious that is their continuous fuck up. they're extremely open about their drive for making simple shit hard.
i don't even play on my account anymore because it'd mean i'd have to plan out a fucking part of my daily life to catch up to the point where I could play IB and not get evaporated

By Laboured Go To PostPreach bruv. Think some games should come with a special "not for people with full time jobs" rating.Or just be honest about some shit but there's no damn reason some content is locked away like it is, none. The only "reason" I can think of is to artificially keep people playing you know 3 weeks from now. It's not even long grinds. It's locking crap away for 2 - 6 weeks. There's a nightfall some people have been waiting for since Oct or Nov or something. It only came out this week because people complained super hard, it was not going to show up YET AGAIN.
I used to look forward playing Destiny with the small group here because we were able to bullshit about and still have fun even if we weren't in the trenches 20-30 hours a week. Nowadays I'd rather solo it like RAU because it means I won't be pissing someone I like off because I might not have grinded hardcore enough to acquire the levels and gear for a specific strike while still being a useful player. And that's before we get into all the ways Destiny just loves to make you fail, the monstrous skillgaps, etc.
I have.
I've played WoW.
I could do old shit. I could grind SOMETHING. I could play PVP at different levels.
Argument null and void.

By diehard Go To PostI kinda suspect people in here haven't played MMO's before (not that Destiny is really an MMO)Pretty sure the lot of us here come from a MMO background in some way or another. I've poured hundreds of hours into WoW when I was younger. I even ran multiple characters, etc. I wouldn't even dream running two characters simultaneously in Destiny.
The difference being as well that... I was younger. It's not that I don't even have the time anymore as an adult, but I don't want to prioritize dozens of hours a week to just acquire 2 or 3 items that may or may not be even okay. The return on investment in Destiny 2 is very shallow.
Back in my WoW days I could go run shit on my deathknight that I didn't because you came in at level 55, just do some older stuff in my down time. Destiny 2 is like "oh you wanna do some stuff and you didn't do it right when it came out? Wait 3 - 8 weeks." The fuck. "Oh you were on vacation that week we brought a Nightfall out it's second time too? Sucks for you wait another 3-8 weeks."
"Oh you want to start a new character in Destiny 2? Gotta play through the entire single player and the exact same quests all over from the beginning xoxo"
At least starting a new race or faction in WoW put you in different biomes and gave you quite different skills/abilities/etc.

Feels like Bungie feel compelled to gate this shit in this way simply because they can't generate decent content fast enough?
Different starting points and leveling up areas depending on your race. Orcs came onto the scene different than Trolls, Tauren, Blood Elves, Undead and whatever they got now.
By Laboured Go To PostFeels like Bungie feel compelled to gate this shit in this way simply because they can't generate decent content fast enough?Sure but it's even worse than that. I'm talking about just being able to play old content. Nope. Gotta pencil that in 3 weeks from now. Oh look I guess they can say people are still playing because they had to log into the game just to do content that was already dropped MONTHS ago.
Oh man, the stories I wish I could tell. Also, Jason makes educated guesses, but he didn't know shit. I like how he constantly vaguebooks all the time though so people think he knows something.
i can't believe everything is on activision from a content standpoint because certain shit just makes no sense. that bit about item design in particular taking 'weeks' was ridiculous lol
like i REFUSE to believe activision was "sure, okay" about those pvp playlists being complete shit. is there a chance that they were the reason destiny started 4 v 4? maybe. getting D2 into the competitive scene sounds like a quality goal to have. how it was handled though? at least overwatch had an excuse out the gate...

TBH this has been their thing for a while. Bungie has had game puzzles/ARG like shit since Halo 1, and people loved I Love Bees for Halo 2, so this was a continuation of all that. It just turned out to be poorly executed this time. They're digesting what went wrong, and hopefully we won't see a mis-step like that again. Didn't help the Annual Pass got off on the wrong foot, either.
