name a game where you got stripped of everything and were forced to level everything back up to a class that actually DEGRADED significantly in terms of options
stripping and building back up to the new hotness is nothing new, but few, if any games, have gone out of their way to set you back as much as destiny 2

EQ2: basically everything
I imagine there was similar bitching about Borderlands 2, though, again, I hadn't played them enough to say for sure.
Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War series
and that's the last one i can think of while just going through my steam library

By s y Go To PostWhy so many posts? To reinforce my point that it is common and to share the experience I had of going through my Steam games list.
It's not like posts are a finite resource or that it was inhibiting discussion, anyway.
Borderlands 2 had completely new characters and classes. NBA 2k is not worth listing--everyone knows about the monetization of myPlayer. Everyones bought into that.
Street Fighter V? Lol wat. Where's my equivalent of a new cast of characters? FFXIV literally required a relaunch. Time proximity between D3 and D2 was such that people just wanted something modern--terrible comparison from D1 to D2.

People put time and money into acquiring various things in each game and the sequel took those things away and made the same or similar characters/classes/playstyles have fewer options or just generally nerfed compared to the previous version.
It's not a new thing and should be expected in every sequel that is not a direct expansion.

I can't wait for Dota 3 to come out many years from now and the same thing to happen since Dota 2 added hats.
Hell, it already happens how between the removal of certain cosmetics and character reworks.

30fps is still butt for fps, but Bungie clearly did something between beta and final release. Played crucible matches and everything feels a lot smoother to me. Maybe it was frame pacing that was the issue.
Haha, can't believe I forgot Pokemon. Spend all that time catching stuff, looking for the right natures and shit, breeding to have the correct skills, defeating monsters in such a way to get the stat growth just right, repeat for a full team and some side members.
Then the new game comes out and moves are re-worked and weakness/strength charts are changed, or a new type is created. Now, even if you are able to trade yourself your previously existing Pokemon, they are far worse than they were previously and to make them good again you have to start from scratch.

I realize I said "name a game where", but there was a pretty clear underlying context of : Same character, linear time progression, class trees, etc.
Bringing out Street Fighter V and every game ever is disingenuous to the argument I was making surrounding D2's flaws as I see them right now.
A good comparison might be Mass Effect 1 to 2 to 3. ME2 from ME1 aimed to do what Bungie claims to have done in D2--stream lining certain things and removing extraneous nodes, "dumbing down" the experience, but it also added a shit load of interesting new skills and a complete reworking of many mechanics to compensate, so you ended up feeling stronger in the sequel.
My sniper is a heavy weapon slot now. My shotgun is a heavy weapon slot. The classes are nerfed to hell. People are hyped right now, but once we hit end game, people are going to start whining real quick.

I just see it as something to expect from every sequel to a game with character progression ever.
e: and nothing will ever stop the whining; it's just what the whining will be about

By Hitch Go To PostAm I good to start multiplayer with the mission called SPARK?Crucible opens up early on. Right after you get to the Earth base camp. Or did you mean Strikes? If so, I haven't gotten that far.
Just any kind of fireteam stuff
There wasn't anybody in my Farm when I got there so presume that's still solo for now

I played a bit of Destiny 1, but the leveling system and the dumpster fire that the game was in the first few months chased me off. I hear it turned out pretty great in the end, but I never got back to it.
I grabbed Destiny 2 but couldn't get into a game last night. Hoping to get in there tonight and give the series a better chance.

By reilo Go To PostHardwired in and the update download speed is still garbage. πThe boy Mastadon had to do it with a 2.5mbps speed, the poor bastard
For some reason my game didn't automatically install, just the update, so had another half hour wait after booting the game up

Pause and Unpause until you get a decent DL.
I had to reinstall on my Pro and go through the DL again and that's what I had to do until it was acceptable.
By Smokey Go To PostPause and Unpause until you get a decent DL.It eventually picked up but there's like... at minimum 20-30Mbps available and up to another 200Mbps more, but its prime hour so all around internet is garbo in the area. Sonic Fiber is like a block away now so it should be on my block any day now. On that month-to-month just waiting to drop Comcast when it is.

Fiber can't save you from PSN. Nothing can. Getting rid of Comcast is a huge win tho.
By Smokey Go To PostFiber can't save you from PSN.Truth.
PSN can't even keep up with my 50 Mbps down most of the time while Steam and other services max out my connection.
By DY_nasty Go To Postthe music is OPSeriously. So good.
Everything thus far early on is a huge improvement.
Can you feel the light as the music pumps through you
Everything about this feels better than any point during D1. Fucking grand.

Holy jeez, this game is so good right from go. I've still only played alone, but I've had a blast just jumping into things and exploring while joining in on the public events. It feels pretty great to show up and see everybody getting hammered and you're fully charged up and ready to turn the fight around for them.
