All those kinds of things been smacking ppl in the face since TTK. Smokey isn't wrong to say that Bungie is treating this all like an expansion but.... its not 'wrong' either at the same time. Vanilla Destiny to the final expansion was more improvement than some entire franchises see. Could they communicate it better? That's tricky. You come at this huge base with "all new everything" and you run the risk of pushing those loyal players away. Its not like destiny was hurting or in need of a reboot like CoD or something.
No need to reinvent the wheel, just show off the shiny wheel you been working on forever and make it more accessible.

For real, I don't see any other shooter out there with this much content.
Don't worry though, COD lets you transform into a robot dog after a ten-kill streak.

By Trey Go To Posthow does any of this entice people disenchanted with d1, or never gave the franchise a try?improve on what you already have and get new fans that way.
you talk about a 4v4 PVP focus but don't detail how you actually want competitive balance and design to work.
you talk about clans but don't detail other more pressing and genre standard social features.
no details on mission design philosophy and how engine improvements have allowed for greater flexibility in content delivery.
it just feels like more of the same, which is fine for fans of destiny, but doesn't communicate to me a clear sense of direction going forward.
Bungie will no doubt expound on the game over the coming months, but it's just weirdly underwhelming to be told of such an ambitious game, but all they have to offer is shit that should've been in the first game day one. you want a pat on the back that it took you 4 years, 2 expansions, and a sequel to finally deliver a feature-basic experience?
The only way to get the psy's and data's of the world to be interested in destiny would require massive changes that would piss off the fans you already have.
If you liked Destiny this looks like more of the same with some obvious design decisions FINALLY being un-done.
Event was kind of embarrassing, coulda fooled me and said this was an event to detail a patch update and maybe an expansion.

I'm not even throwing shots at CoD like that but you got a game that was doing numbers, crossgen, over three years and the many of the same improvements you're asking to see have been apparent since an expansion over a year old - that also outsold some titles by itself.
The community focus has also been one of the key factors in Destiny not being a cesspool like just about every other shooter out there, its a legit draw that few can claim. Not sure why "guided games" are a bad thing either lol

see yall keep going back to the "what other shooters" well but fail to realize a lot of people are putting Destiny's feature set and story presentation alongside shit like MOBAs and real MMOs.
and if the mouse wheel mission design of the first one is still Destiny's only realized trick, then it's no small wonder why people aren't immediately enamored. perhaps the better emphasis on exploration and social links will make a much bigger difference than it appears to at first blush, but QoL changes being the forefront of this presentation is to me - a virtual novice to destiny - indicative of no grand new ideas when it comes to content or world building.
I'm not writing the game off, i'm simply underwhelmed by the initial presentation.

I feel like you missed the part where they re-did all of the world exploration, introduced 4 new planets and several new features that will change how the PVE aspect of the game will be played in comparison to D1. Not only that, but the story campaign they did show (what little of it) is already way more vast and expanded world building than all of what D1 did.
I'm pretty sure the biggest vanilla destiny complaint was content and that's long since been completely smashed
I can see an argument for more on display in the announcement stuff but there's still a flood of streamers to do all that talking for them with the demos later today

By reilo Go To PostWhich other premier FPS does everything that they're trying to accomplish? Open(ish) worlds (plural), raids, PVP this large, strikes, etc? Neither COD nor Titanfall come close in content. If it was just straight up PvP, then Planetside and it's sequel embarrass Destiny. That whole PvE thing, though...
This is more akin if WoW met a FPS.
By Moris Go To Post4 new planets LOLNow you sound like gaf
Four Planets will churn out what? Maybe five maps each for PVP, plus probably a few classic maps, too? Again, this game will have crazy amount of content, so to say "they won't be doing anything on the world building aspect" is kinda wat.gif

I'm someone who burned through Destiny's campaign and literally everything it had to offer in about a business week before hanging it up on that time sink.
I even gave it another shot after TTK, the mechanics are rock solid, everything else about that game is a mess.

Because year 1 to 3 is a massive difference
Even from TTK to ROI is a huge difference in endgame content. Hell, just dropping last gen in ROI made it obvious how much Destiny had been restrained by hardware.

The mechanics in D1 were good enough that I will get D2 if they remain intact and make it less irritating to do group content.
Y'all really don't want to do the H1 -> H2 analogy with d1 -> d2. Back when bungie's ambition to absolutely change the landscape of gaming was actually realized.

If you have a successful franchise, you do your best to stay true to the formula and ignore the "wow this looks like the same thing". No shit, it's supposed to. Why would you risk pissing off your fans who helped you be successful to chase some crowd that isn't going to care about your game?
Nah Bungie started that train. Introducing abilities, sprint and "CoDified" it. 343 just took that shit to the next level
Any sequel that doesn't have major engine changes is pretty disappointing. Not talking about destiny here but rather Halo 1 to 2 (it had major engine changes).
Changes to games are OK as long as they work well. Halo 5's changes worked well.

I hope they didn't use 50% of story cutscenes for the trailer, like in D1 or something.

Don't see the problem. Bungie have nobody to blame but themselves that they'll have to fight to attract new players.
And even if they don't, it'll be a juggernaut regardless.

My gripe is that the version of Destiny people still have in their heads has not existed for over 2 years.

It's smart to be wary, and you should be wary of every release, but some are being outright dismissive
It's just weird to see some people trapped in this loop.

Destiny was incredible, the only ones who "don't trust the series to be good" are the same internet trolls who criticized it the whole time it was busy being a phenomenon. Bungie won't have to fight for anything.
I understand hoping for a bigger engine bump, but come on.
Reckon I should get my fiancee onto Luke about this since he always fucking 'fesses up.
The PC launch date, as Destiny 2 director Luke Smith told us at today's reveal event, hasn't actually been set.
"We're not committed to a PC date yet, but at Bungie we're totally committed to making a PC build as great as we can," Smith said. "Our partnership with Blizzard and being on Battle.net, we want to make sure that this version of the game has the time it needs to bake in the oven so it's a delicious piece of bread when it comes out."
Smith added he couldn't comment on how much of a delay the PC version would suffer, but said Bungie would try to provide a date "in the coming weeks."
vanilla destiny was satanically bad in some aspects--wouldn't blame anyone for not giving it another shot with the expansion

But that's where they all live.
It was a mess
Load times, lack of planets and locations, dogshit story and structure in how it was told (grimoire cards fuck off), no attempt to provide variety through sparrows and ships
Felt like it was built up to be far, far more than it actually was on release. All it had going for it was tight controls. Might as well have replayed fucking Vanquish with that in mind.

Snipe and shotgun are power weapons now and only one person can get heavy ammo at a time. 60 sec respawn.

Seem like smart decisions. Sounds like they've tried to make heavy weapons actually powerful and balanced by highly limiting ammo, which is fine.

If you're being incredibly generous, it's merely passable.
